I chose 11-25 only because, with the win today, the chance of getting local hero, Adrian Peterson is slimmer than before. Also, I read the quote where Kubiak was giving Dayne a pass for the previous avg play as Dayne was not healthy and he now is.
If the "group" loses out, the Texans will be picking between 5 and 7 (based on tiebreakers). Detroit, Oakland, Tampa and Cleveland are ahead and the Texans are tied with Washington and Arizona. Out of that bunch, I would imagine only Detroit (based on K. Jones injury status) and Cleveland would look at Peterson. If Peterson is there, the Texas almost HAVE to take him. I don't think they could spin "Dayne is better than Peterson" with the fans (look at the backlash this year). wannabee, I enjoy reading your opinions on the forum and feel you have a better handle than I at this point, but who would you see taking Peterson before the Texans?
I appreciate the kind words. I have already started looking at the NFL draft sites. I agree with you in that Detroit and Cleveland are the most likely places for Peterson. I see Oakland as a distant third, but still a chance. I read where Peter King said that both Detroit and Oakland wanted Quinn (or a top QB). Let's look at the situations and how the draft might turn out (way premature):1.01 Detroit - Has choice of Peterson or Quinn or CJohnson or Thomas (OT). I cannot see them taking a WR with the way WRs in the 1st has worked out for them recently. In addition, they have a ton of money locked up in Backus and probably owuld not want that much money locked into tackles. That leaves Peterson and Quinn. Much will depend on KJones' rehab. That is still almost 4 months away. If the Jones injury is as severe as feared, I think the Lions have to go with Peterson. Martz has shown he can make do with a journeyman QB. Also, the rehab of Brian Calhoun (ACL) will influence this decision some.1.02 Oakland - Same choices as above. With Gallery, I think there is just a small chance the Raiders go tackle again. The option of CJohnson, wr, will come down to what happens with Moss and Porter, imo. If those two WRs are gone, I think CJohnson is a good fit. Some factors are: Fargas is a FA and the Raider front office will have to decide if they think Jordan's woes stem from poor line play or poor performance. But, QB has to be upgraded somehow, as does OLine. But, I think the Raiders go Peterson (if still left) or CJohnson. I could see the Raiders targetting Edwards, QB, Stanford in the first day of the draft and bringing in a decent veteran QB to hold down the fort. Also, there are rumors that the Raiders might pursue Leftwich or Schaub. But, Leftwich would get killed behind that OLine.1.05 Cleveland - The OLine has been beat up and been patchwork since preseason it seems. So, the front office has to determine whether Droughns' play has been because of OLine play or because of Droughns. But, unless something crazy happens, I do not think there is any way Peterson gets past Cleveland. The Browns' Oline has improved over the year. In addition, the Browns have a good young QB, good young WR, and a top young TE. The defense and OLine could use a lot of help, but the Browns will probably address those positions later in the draft. Also, ssome rumors have the Browns hoping to get Troy Smith in the 2nd or 3rd round since he is the hometown favorite. The other team I could see trading up would be the Packers. Ahman will be 30 before the start of next season. I am very high on Morency, but who knows if the Packer front office agrees. If Favre retires, I could see the Packers adopting a run first offense with the stud young RB. The Packers might take Lynch if Peterson is not there for them.
