Had an open roster spot in my limited roster league, so I took a flyer, actually hoping to be able to move Ron Dayne for the final 3 weeks of the season for a marginal draft choice. That didn't happen, so know he's on my team through the offseason.

His numbers in December are pretty damn good:

89 carries, 429 yards, 5 TDs in 4 games; granted, about 40 percent of that came Sunday against the Colts and their sieve of a defense (Dungy is a defensive genius right?).

Dayne will be going into his EIGHTH year in the NFL next year. Is he finally going to enter the season as the unquestioned starter? Or does he have to fight off Domanick Davis or a draft pick?

I chose 11-25 only because, with the win today, the chance of getting local hero, Adrian Peterson is slimmer than before. Also, I read the quote where Kubiak was giving Dayne a pass for the previous avg play as Dayne was not healthy and he now is.

He couldn't do it in NY, we've seen nothing on a consistant basis to suggest that it'll be different in Houston.

If the "group" loses out, the Texans will be picking between 5 and 7 (based on tiebreakers). Detroit, Oakland, Tampa and Cleveland are ahead and the Texans are tied with Washington and Arizona. Out of that bunch, I would imagine only Detroit (based on K. Jones injury status) and Cleveland would look at Peterson. If Peterson is there, the Texas almost HAVE to take him. I don't think they could spin "Dayne is better than Peterson" with the fans (look at the backlash this year). wannabee, I enjoy reading your opinions on the forum and feel you have a better handle than I at this point, but who would you see taking Peterson before the Texans?

He's looked pretty damn consistant the past 3 weeks. :hot:

I appreciate the kind words. I have already started looking at the NFL draft sites. I agree with you in that Detroit and Cleveland are the most likely places for Peterson. I see Oakland as a distant third, but still a chance. I read where Peter King said that both Detroit and Oakland wanted Quinn (or a top QB). Let's look at the situations and how the draft might turn out (way premature):1.01 Detroit - Has choice of Peterson or Quinn or CJohnson or Thomas (OT). I cannot see them taking a WR with the way WRs in the 1st has worked out for them recently. In addition, they have a ton of money locked up in Backus and probably owuld not want that much money locked into tackles. That leaves Peterson and Quinn. Much will depend on KJones' rehab. That is still almost 4 months away. If the Jones injury is as severe as feared, I think the Lions have to go with Peterson. Martz has shown he can make do with a journeyman QB. Also, the rehab of Brian Calhoun (ACL) will influence this decision some.1.02 Oakland - Same choices as above. With Gallery, I think there is just a small chance the Raiders go tackle again. The option of CJohnson, wr, will come down to what happens with Moss and Porter, imo. If those two WRs are gone, I think CJohnson is a good fit. Some factors are: Fargas is a FA and the Raider front office will have to decide if they think Jordan's woes stem from poor line play or poor performance. But, QB has to be upgraded somehow, as does OLine. But, I think the Raiders go Peterson (if still left) or CJohnson. I could see the Raiders targetting Edwards, QB, Stanford in the first day of the draft and bringing in a decent veteran QB to hold down the fort. Also, there are rumors that the Raiders might pursue Leftwich or Schaub. But, Leftwich would get killed behind that OLine.1.05 Cleveland - The OLine has been beat up and been patchwork since preseason it seems. So, the front office has to determine whether Droughns' play has been because of OLine play or because of Droughns. But, unless something crazy happens, I do not think there is any way Peterson gets past Cleveland. The Browns' Oline has improved over the year. In addition, the Browns have a good young QB, good young WR, and a top young TE. The defense and OLine could use a lot of help, but the Browns will probably address those positions later in the draft. Also, ssome rumors have the Browns hoping to get Troy Smith in the 2nd or 3rd round since he is the hometown favorite. The other team I could see trading up would be the Packers. Ahman will be 30 before the start of next season. I am very high on Morency, but who knows if the Packer front office agrees. If Favre retires, I could see the Packers adopting a run first offense with the stud young RB. The Packers might take Lynch if Peterson is not there for them.

It is very early to predict this, but I think your analysis is solid. Packer fan here and I don't see the Packers trading up (not Thompson's style and they don't NEED to). If Lynch is there at the natural pick, I wouldn't be shocked to see him taken (good fit for WCO) but I would prefer a Jarrett at WR or a CB instead. Speaking of Lynch, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Houston go that direction either. Back to the OP, I just can't imagine Dayne being the F/T 2007 starter.

I think he'll enter the preseason as the starter, so I answered >75 (the minority opinion at this point).

This is based on the fact that he is basically the only good thing to come out of the season on the offensive side of the ball. AJ and Carr have fallen off a cliff in the last month or two. There's a ton of places this team could improve upon, so having a decent RB can allow them to focus elsewhere. That said, I believe DD will have some sort of role, so it will probably be more Dayne heading a RBBC there.

If Peterson falls to them, I don't think they'll pass him up though based on what's happened with Jesus in Cleats Bush in NO. Personally I think the organization is probably hoping that he's picked before they choose so they can go elsewhere.

Kubiak also comes from the Shanahan school of RB "wisdom", so I honestly doubt there will ever be a clear-cut starter in the Texans backfield as long as he's there. I'm thinking Dayne and possibly Lundy as the rotation with DD as the 3rd down back, if he's even healthy.

He's looked pretty damn consistant the past 3 weeks. :bag:
So............divide 96 weeks (total years in the league) by 3 weeks the equals a fill-in scrub! :goodposting:P.S.He couldn't even do it in Denver, Denver man!! That's a RBs dream! :wall: :wall:
He missed an entire season, so you're down to 80 games. You're probably below 15 starts coming into this December. He hadn't started 3 games in a row since 2001. He did average 5.1 YPC for the Broncos last year - probably about 4 if you take out his 1 long run, which is something I have never beileved in.He is a big back and sometimes, big backs need work to get going. I am curious to those who are forecasting a role for Domanick Davis. Have you heard anything to indicate his recovery is going well? Last I heard was over the summer it was bone on bone and looked like he would never play again.

The past 4 weeks.TOTAL 89 429 4.8 5 TDVsOak - TEn - NE - Indy was a gimme. So against good defenses.
Ron doesnt have much control on who's on the schedule. Bottom line is he was given the starting job last month and has performed well. Those are the facts, and they are undisputed.

He couldn't beat out M. Bell, the fact that he can't start anywhere else but Houston says it all.

First of all, this doesn't mean very much. All it means is that in Shanny's mind he was not better than the other RBs on Denver's roster. The fact that most RBs perform well in Denver is irrelevant as it does not mean that Denver only has scrub RBs. You can try to argue that Mike Bell and Tatum Bell are scrubs, and I'd disagree with you, but that's another argument.Dayne was set to start for Denver this season, but was injured most of preseason, which allowed Mike Bell to showcase his skillset and gave Shanny reason enough to cut him.
