Ronnie Brown to get decent playing time? (1 Viewer)

Gotta love the coaching games that go on now. But Sparano hinted that Brown could still be in the running for the starting role:

• Asked if Ricky Williams will be the starting running back, Sparano said, ''You'll have to buy a ticket and see.'' But he said of Ronnie Brown, ``All of a sudden, I see a little more burst.''

If I had to guess, I'd say Ronnie gets 5-8 carries and Ricky 15-20. They have a good back in Ricky, and they will bring Ronnie along slowly. By midseason, Ronnie might be the #1.

I hope this doesn't go on all year.
Agreed, that's the worst case scenario. As a Ricky owner, I'd rather find out Ronnie is going to be the primary starter than have a RBBC with indecision each week. It will make it easier to drop Ricky and find a suitable replacement. Ideally, Ricky starts out strong in week 1 and continues in that role as long as possible.

Ricky Williams is likely to get "nearly 20 carries" in the Dolphins' opener against the Jets, a source tells the Newark Star-Ledger.

Williams has scored five TDs and ran for 530 yards in six career games against the Jets. The Dolphins could use Ronnie Brown on passing downs more because he's an excellent receiver, but Williams is the best bet for touches.

Ok, well if a source tells the Newark Star-Ledger, then it must be the case! That's awfully vague. A source from the Dolphins? A source from the Jets? A source from some media analyst? If it's a source from the Dolphins, what level is the person in the organization?

Just what I was thinking. As a Dolphin fan and a Ricky owner I have been paying a lot of attention to this situation. To me it looks like full blown RBBC. Either will make a good RB#3 and if the situation changes either will make a very good RB#2.

Love it! Now teams are tipping rival beat guys what the gameplan is! God On a Donkey. Please let the regular season start already...

As a $6 Ronnie owner in a $200 cap league, I hope Ricky plays as much as possible the first 3 or 4 games of the season - enough touches that Ronnie is able to heal up completely. If Ronnie is less than 100%, there's an added chance he could re-injure himself and be lost for the season. Most likely (and best) scenario for Ronnie owners, in my opinion, is Ricky totes the rock for a quarter of the season, does marignally well enough to stay on the field as Ronnie heals up (which I feel confident will be the case - I don't see Ricky producing anywhere close to what Ronnie was able to generate last year) and the Fins finally restore Ronnie to his rightful starting gig once he's back to 100%.

That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it until I see evidence to the contrary.

Edit: I'm not a Ricky owner.

I'd think if they wanted to bring him along that slowly, they would not have given him 14 touches in the 1st half of a meaningless preseason game last week.

People tend to start ignoring long threads on players that they've seen hanging around for a while figuring that it's dissolved into the typical non-sense that threads tend to dissolve into around here. I figured that a quote from the coach specifically talking about the situation was important enough to deserve its own thread so that people got the heads up. If the mods disagree, they're free to merge the threads anytime they want.
