Seahawks.net, Scout.com - [Full Article]

Seattle Seahawks top draft choice, CB Kelly Jennings has agreed to a five-year deal in excess of $9.5 million that includes approximately $5 million in guaranteed money. Jennings, who played for Miami Fla. is expected to sign the deal later Sunday and join the team later in the day.

Anyone think Jennings will have good IDP value this year or in the future? Everything out of camp was shining. My league scoring is

Completions (.5)

Passing Yards (15 yards per point)

Passing Touchdowns (10)

Interceptions (-3)

Rushing Attempts (.5)

Rushing Yards (5 yards per point)

Rushing Touchdowns (10)

Receptions (1)

Reception Yards (4 yards per point)

Reception Touchdowns (10)

Return Touchdowns (20)

2-Point Conversions (3)

Fumbles Lost (-3)

Offensive Fumble Return TD (20)

Field Goals 0-19 Yards (5)

Field Goals 20-29 Yards (6)

Field Goals 30-39 Yards (8)

Field Goals 40-49 Yards (12)

Field Goals 50+ Yards (15)

Point After Attempt Made (2)

Tackle Solo (3)

Tackle Assist (1)

Sack (10)

Interception (15)

Fumble Force (15)

Fumble Recovery (10)

Touchdown (20)

Safety (20)

Pass Defended (2)

Block Kick (20)

And the 16 teams in my league have 33 man rosters. So Every position is relatively thin.

I have him in every single one of my IDP leagues. You can have him for next to nothing because no one was really talking about him after the NFL Draft. I, myself, don't know too much about him. What I do know is he's probably going to start this year and the Seahawks spent a 1st rounder on him. So if you buy into the "Starting Rookie CB's score a lot" theory then he's your guy and will be less expensive than Jimmy Williams.

Yea, i have him based on what ive been reading and the fact that he will likely get picked on if he starts because trufants on the other side. From everything I hear though his coverage skills are outstanding and hasnt allowed for many catches.

Does this make him less fantasy worthy if he is that quality of a CB as far as coverage?

Cornerbacks can be difficult to project. Much of their value derives from your specific scoring system.A couple of general rules to go by:1. To have value in any league, a corner must be consistent. Usually that means a baseline of 65 plus solo tackles or a history of 5 picks or 15 passes defended a season. So you should be looking for corners with excellent run support and/or coverage/ball skills. Cover-2 guys who are active in supporting the run, guys with stellar ball skills who have a decent corner opposite to give them opportunity, etc.2. As you mentioned, the rookie corner rule. Expect any rookie with a decent corner opposite him to get picked on and have a greater than expected number of opportunities to make plays. If the rookie proves himself, the opposite often happens the following year and, unless they are exceptional in run support or have the coverage skills to take advantage of the limited opportunity, they'll be nearly useless after the first season.Jennings looks to be pretty talented. He may follow the rookie corner rule this season, but isn't a great bet to be consistent at all until he proves some run support willingness and capability. If his trend looks good over the first couple of weeks, he should be a good option all season long. But his scouting reports suggest that he'll have a lot of trouble in run support in the NFL. IMO, he's nowhere near as solid a long term option as bigger, ball hawkers like Jimmy Williams and (possibly) Antonio Cromartie.
