Rookie DT Jason Jones Titans (1 Viewer)

This 2nd round pick filled in for Haynesworth and had 4 tackles, 1 assist, 3.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. That is an awesome performance by a rookie and by a backup and....just geesh that's good.

So...what's that mean for the future?

Haynesworth is a FA in 09 yet the team wants to re-sign him, he will however ask for a truckload of money.

Jones (as a backup DT) hasn't done too too much other than last week.

If some of you college football folks saw him go to a team where he could start right away, would you have expected big things in 08?

Aside from WOW are there any other implications?

Wrote about Jones' potential midseason and Dave Baker has been pimping him for about a month, too. As MaddHatter said, many (including me) thought he had some nice upside sometime this season as a rotational guy with Jevon Kearse outside. I guess the Titans knew what they had with Jacob Ford and David Ball, who've been playing really well with VDB injured, and started using Jones as a three-technique really early. And Jones has actually been very good against the run for over a month now. Last week showed he can take advantage of poor offensive line.

He may not be able to do everything Haynesworth can, but he's made a pretty difficult decision a little easier this offseason.

Crazy thing is that he was initially projected to be a defensive end out of college.
I think guys like Seymour and Tuck have given teams a bit more comfort in trying DEs as DTs. Maybe in the past they thought they could get blown out of the water and allow a huge rushing gain. Now it's worth a shot. Just a guess

Nice articleThe other rookie they drafted looked pretty good last sunday too. Hayes? I always forget his name. He looks "raw" but in time might be a good one. They lost two DEs in FA to other teams offerring lucrative contracts and really brushed it off well. Pretty great scouting and GM work. Most teams would have trouble overcoming that even if just for depth-good DEs are hard to find.

Titans are loaded on the DL. Kearse, Brown, Phat Albert, and KVB being the starting 4.

Behind that you have Kevin Vickerson (a load), Jones, Hayes (both rookies), Dave Ball (great sub DE), and Jacob Ford. Give Ford, Ball, and Jones and off season to put on some weight and you are talking serious DL.

Haynesworth -- I do think they try to re-sign him, starting as early as in 2 days, before he hits the market. Maybe they get a hometown and no state income tax discount. But...I don't think they bite if it is going to blow the cap up. Titans have a serious young core that could be quite good for a long time.
