Rookie QB (1 Viewer)

I have read a lot about Ryan Tannehill being very poised in the pocket. I have read he has a great skill set. I am also reading most think he won't start the year in Miami. Those same folks are saying Tannehill at some point may very well take over as the teams starter mid-year.

So my question is.....what are the odds he starts at all this year?...especially if David or Matt have a strong start to the season. What are the chances Tannehill can learn to keep from throwing INT's and be given the keys?

Time will tell....

I think it has more to do with Miami's record than with the play of Garrard or Moore (though their play will certainly make a big impact on the Dolphin's record.)

Miami has a week 7 bye. If they are 2-4 or 3-3 heading into the bye, I don't think they can give up on the season and insert Tannehill. If the Dolphins have a winning record, one of Moore or Garrard must be playing fairly well.

I think the only way Tannehill gets in after the bye is if the Dolphins are 1-5 or 0-6.

Once the Dolphins are out of playoff contention, it wouldn't surprise me to see Tannehill start the last 3 or 4 games.

If Tannehill shows enough in camp to excite the coaches he'll play sooner rather than later. If he struggles he'll sit. Can't really form an opinion until after camp imo.

I think it's already safe to say Miami is out of playoff contention barring several disasters in the AFC. It is just a matter of the coach trying to get enough wins to keep his job safe before starting the rookie.

I see a Locker like season from him.

Eta: in terms of playing time, not necessarily results.

You are not giving this team enough credit. They are/were not that bad. They were actually a very competitive team last year. They started 0 and 7 but were in many of those games and then won 6 of their last 9 games.6 wins to 10 losses is not a great season, but they may be in a wild card hunt late into the season and therefore you may not see much of the rookie if at all.By the looks of it Garrard is going to beat out Moore to start the year, and Miami actually played well with more consistent QB play when Moore took over. Therefore many are writing this team off way too early. I wouldn't bank on them making the playoffs that is for sure, but they are not as bad as many assume.

I think if you like Tannehills upside in dynasty leagues you should probably try to grab him on the cheap side and plan on being patient.

An injury or frustration from bad play via Garrard, Moore could allow Tannehill to see some time under center sooner than once they're out of contention. If, he's somehow able to lead a GW drive or comeback win it might allow him more opportunity to start and give him room for error.

I'd been hearing a lot of hype about this guy leading up to the draft. (Our Rookie Draft is this Sunday).

I wanted some footage on him for his proday to see what this guy was about.

I'm no expert I won't know if his release is sharp etc. Nothing technical.

What I did like: Business-like approach to getting things done in his proday. Very mature, take charge approach. Even if it's scripted. I think he did a longer than typical proday too. He made his workout replicate the equivalent of playing a game or something which was significantly longer than a lot of guys do for their pro day. I think this kid probably has a good work ethic that will carry over. He's got raw talent. those are two pretty good combinations. If he's coachable he'll probably get the rest in time. Still patience is the key.

Talent and no work ethic example: JaMarcus Russell.

All Work Ethic and limited physical talent: Tom Brady (good arm and accuracy but weak and slow).

Good Work Ethic. Good Hype...limited talent apparently: Brady Quinn. Just not able to keep/win a job w/ even questionable competition.

Could Tannehill be Brady Quinn? I think expectations for Tannehill are for a higher ceiling that what Quinn had coming into the league. I just don't know or remember.

If he's good...he's probably cheaper now than he will be in the future. It'll take patience. Commit to rostering him for 2-3 years before you really know anything. If someone else has his...and he's off to a slow start...Reward their impatience with a low-ball offer.

Just my thoughts.

I think that may be a good gauge. Who do you feel offers more potential based on ability...Locker or Tannehill?
In terms of pure potential I think gun to my head Id say Tannehill. Although I also think that a) he's far more likely to bust completely andB) you'll have to wait longer for him.

No team heads into the season thinking this, especially a team that wasn't all that bad last season. Miami finished the year 6-6 after Matt Moore took over.

I watched some video prior to the draft and can't believe anyone was ever high on Ryan Tannehill. He's a 3rd or 4th round draft pick on his good days...the only reason he went in the 1st was a lack of decent QB's after Luck and RG3, whose #1 and #2 overall statuses made QB-needy teams desperate to draft him in the 1st.

If/when he ever does start a NFL game, I'm very certain that he'll be a total flop.

he's better off sitting just like Locker. I heard a lot of people who I trust talk about how he's a work in progress as a QB. No since in throwing him out there when they have 2 capable vets. Having said that, the guy has tremendous athletic ability and tools to play the position so his long term potential is very good...

:goodposting: I think Donsmith is spot on with his last two posts. The only issue is that Locker has a lot more talent at the WR position than Tanny moving forward.Britt/Washington/Wright vs Bess/Hartline/Ocho

Hadn't even taken that into account. Absolutely this. Especially adding in Cook and CJ
