Rotoworld: Jags changing to 3-4 defense (1 Viewer)

Following the season-ending loss of DE Reggie Hayward, the Jaguars will use a 3-4 defense with Atiyyah Ellison at defensive end.

John Henderson will be the other end and impressive rookie Terrance Knighton will be the full-time nose tackle. Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey are the outside linebackers. The Jags used a lot of this alignment in Week 1 against the Colts, consistently stuffing Joseph Addai and Donald Brown.
So how does that affect the value of Jag LBs and DEs?Groves and Harvey are listed as DEs in my tackle heavy league. Can either of these guys end up being a poor man's Suggs (i.e. Listed DE who has LB type stats)?

Was just wondering the same thing... Would love to hear some of the hardcore IDPers weigh in on this one. I just picked them both up in one of my leagues where I was already in need of a third DL... Figured I'd grab them both and hope one of them pans out.

Glad I traded Harvey in both leagues I'm in. And after hearing the comments below from Del Rio, I'm glad I traded Harvey when I did.

"Gene Frenette, of The Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio appears to be lowering his expectations for DL Derrick Harvey. Del Rio conceded Harvey may not be a player who registers a lot of sacks. "I think what's going to happen until people just understand, he's a big, strong, tough football player. And if people want to see, just because of where he was selected (in the draft), want to see the sexy sack monster, that's just not what he is…"

i am wondering how this might affect durant's value and stats?
"The Jags used a lot of this alignment in Week 1 against the Colts, consistently stuffing Joseph Addai and Donald Brown."Durant put up nice numbers last week, and they were apparently already using the scheme.

So did Daryl Smith.

I cant see Harvey being more than a rush OLB. He's 6'6'' or something and 260 lbs. He might get a few sacks, but I would assume limited # of tackles. I will wait a week before adding Groves. No one in my league will even know who he is. BTW, I'm cutting Harvey for Ray Edwards or C Campbell(ARZ).

Even after this news, I dont see him being an impact guy...he's no Ware, Harrison or even Woodley IMO

I hate to ditch players so early.....but when del rio says people need to lower there expections with Harvey thats a bad sign......plus i never heard one good vibe on this guy all off season.....oh well im in a heavy sacker league if this is true 3-4 hurts sackers......man do i hate to do it but i think im going to jump ship.funny I was thinking about picking up Ray Edwards as well....although might take a HUGE gamble and get a little crazy with Kroy Biermann(youtube him)

Michael C. Wright, blogger/reporter for Jags learned from a player, DE Attayah Ellison, that they continued 3-4 looks duirng practices and he claims also for the game. Wright predicts that Quentin Groves and Clint Ingram will play OLB while John Henderson, Terrence Knighton, A. Ellison man the line. Harvey is the question though, if he spells at OLB or plays DE. Del Rio defended Harvey this week as a hard worker despite his anemic sack production.

Is Daryl Smith going to continue to be in position to make plays? He had 8 solo and 2 assists in week 1, is this something we can expect going forward with this change?

picked up groves since harvey was alraedy off the WW.

now the question is do i start groves vs ARI or andre carter vs STL (either will be my DL2 behind Chris Long)

haha....I was just checkin' out their snaps at pff last night and wondering what was up.

they actually have them in 3-4 for the first 12 snaps, a bunch of 4-2 and 3-3 nickel after that (smith and durant in on nickel snaps) --- nickel being almost the entire game.

they initially had ingram and harvey as olb, groves getting subbed in for ingram in some nickel packages w/harvey at end, and closing out the game with groves + ingram olb and harvey at end.

I ended up cutting Harvey and Dwayne White and was able to add Tulloch and Ray Edwards.

I am using Edwards vs DET for sure.

Also got Gage for Nicks.

The Jags aligned in a 3-4 front in at least 50% of their preseason snaps, so this isn't likely to be a huge change from what we've already seen. The consensus was that Jack Del Rio wouldn't scrap his favored 4-3 entirely, however. It looks like depth issues have forced his hand.

This isn't good for Derrick Harvey, who hasn't looked explosive or fluid in a standup role and is rotating out significantly with Quentin Groves. Justin Durant should be fine here and I doubt the already weak safeties and Daryl Smith see much increase in numbers either.

Does Groves get a boost? Or will he continue to share time with Harvey?

Groves has a chance to up his stock measurably because reportedly he is starting at OLB across from Clint Ingram and the 3-4 alignment is better suited to him . But right now that is all it is, a chance, becuase he will have to get to the QB. I doubt they are willing to give up on D. Harvey this early--WAY too much invested. But he and Groves may not be playing the same position anyway if Harvey is at DE and Groves at OLB.

:lmao:

Rolling with Groves (over Adams) this week opposite Allen... I'm gong to play wait and see with Adams before I plug him in every week. At least with Groves I'll probably get a few solos and assists if he fails to get to the QB.

I rolled Groves over Kiwi; nothing yet. W/ Zona's big lead there goes my hopes of Groves getting to warner. I also have Adams in my line up... I'll give him one more chance.
