The Green Bay Packers announced Wednesday, Sept. 23, that they have released SS Aaron Rouse.

Any idea why? He just had 7 solos and 2 assists on Sunday

Wondering the same thing. And to add, anyone know how close Bigby is to returning and who will be filling in for him until he does?

they talked about him possibly not making the team in preseason, but then the team cut loose Anthony Smith instead. With Bigby injury prone, this does seem very strange.

Bigby is 3 weeks away. Until then, GB signed Matt Giordano to replace Rouse.

He's looked like an extreme liability in pass coverage, if the Packers have seen this too I think that justifies the move.

That's been the knock on him for a while. Good, physical hitter with some nice measurables but a liability in coverage.

His only chance to stay in the league is to try to make the transition to WLB like Cato June or Lemar Marshall did. He's just not any good in downfield coverage.

Rouse also suffered a stinger last week so if his availablility was in question at all for this week, the Packers likely needed to get a healthy body at safety with Bigby out a few more weeks and Collins questionable. The local beat writer for the Packers speculates that Collins will play this week and Derrick Martin (or whoever the guy traded from the Ravens is) will start at the other safety spot with Bush & Giordano in reserve.

Rouse has never been able to cover. Was disappointed that they cut Anthony Smith in favor of Rouse to begin with as Rouse missed a lot of preseason with an injury. With Bigby being beat up most of last year I was hoping for an upgrade behind him and Smith looked like that guy in the preseason. Hopefully this Martin guy can play.

The guy we got from the Ravens is a special teams player, I find it hard to believe he would be starting. I know stranger things have happened, but I can't see that as upgrade to Rouse, they must have other plans for Sunday. Hopefully part of the plan will be to block the Rams pass rushers....

Any time the Giants need a pilot light relighted, or someone to fire up their barbeque, Rouse is their man!
