Roy Williams (1 Viewer)

Coach Wade Phillips revealed Monday that Roy E. Williams damaged cartilage in three of his ribs during the Cowboys' Week 4 loss.

Williams' status for Week 5 is in doubt, and the Cowboys could hold him out with a bye coming in Week 6. Williams' ribs are not cracked, but he's likely in a considerable amount of pain. The $54 million receiver is on pace for just 44 catches and 856 yards through four weeks. Should he miss a game, Sam Hurd would see more snaps opposite the Pat Crayton/Miles Austin rotation. This has nothing to do with the news, but I expect the player who hit him to be fined. Clearly a helmet led hit to the ribs.

NO WAY this should be fined. this is football! if anything, Romo should be fined for hanging his receiver out to dry! that was ALL on Romo.

It most definitely was not helmet led. I have an animated .gif that is a video of this hit, that clearly shows DJ hit Roy with his shoulder. The pic can be seen here, but I think registration is required.

Hey, I'll take your words for it. Looked like he drove his helmet into his ribs from what I saw. :goodposting: I take it back.
no prob. There still may be a fine though...didn't they make some new rule about hitting defenseless WR's over the middle? 'Cause that clearly happened here. No way for Roy to defend himself on that one.

Here's a link to a picture of the hit.

I thought he broke a rib or 2 for certain after that perfectly legal hit. Romo just laid him out to dry and DJ Williams absolutely leveled Roy.

Did he hold on to the ball?

IIRC, the ball wasn't really catchable.

That was a brutal hit. He show some toughness coming back in the game for a bit and making a 1st down catch. You could see he couldn't even stand straight up.

I dropped him in an 8-team league and I was shocked that another team actually picked him up. He's barely startable in 12-team leagues.

Not a medical expert nor have I ever had torn anything in my ribcage, but he looked fine walking around the sidelines watching the final drive. It would have been nice to have had him on the field as a decoy to draw attention from hurd/crayton on the last few plays. jog a route, avoid contact, help your team.

there's a lot of talk about romo sucking it up this season, but i've seen more alligator arms/ paddle hands this season already than all of last season by TO.

Regarding the hit, Williams said the following: ""from Pop Warner through my 6 years in the league. I'm 5200 feet above sea level with asthma, so I was obviously hurting"

I thought he was just being a big #####, seeing him standing on the sidelines at the end of the game...then I read that and, well, I felt like a tool having thought what I did. That was a brutal hit and torn cartilage is nothing to sneeze at. Props to him making that catch after the play he took the hit on.

People dog him all day, but I think he has played well, from a football standpoint (not fantasy), this season. :grad:

There should never be a fine on a hit like that . this is a contact sport not dance class. Romo hung most of his wrs out on sunday .He is real lucky sore ribs are all they got.
