Rudi Johnson: Increased Role In The Passing Game? (1 Viewer)

The Bengals talked in the pre-season about getting Rudi more involved in the passing game and so far tonight that's definitely been the case. Rudi had five targets officially in the first half tonight against the Ravens with three receptions. He was also targeted one other time (on a pass he dropped) but that play was negated by a penalty.

Rudi has had 31 targets the past two seasons or less than 2 targets per game. He's already doubled that average in the first half alone. If this trend continues, Rudi's stock in PPR leagues will certainly rise. It's something to watch.

This is why preseason is impt....we saw this all preseason....and the real sharks capitalized on it. I got Rudi in a WCOFF Sat league as my RB2.....guaranteed 1200+ 12 TDs and now catches + passing yards? Fantasy gold as RB2.....

you done creaming yourself?

Some additional points of interest:

Rudi has three receptions in the first half tonight. He has only had more than 2 receptions in a game three times the past three seasons. His high reception total is 4 which he set in 2004.

Maybe this is just a one half (or game) fluke. But given all the pre-season discussion and given the number of targets he's already gotten this could be part of the Bengals' offensive plan for this season. We'll see.

I counted 6 targets for Rudi in the game Monday night (FBG has him for four but I'm very certain he had six) with three receptions. The six targets were the most he has ever received in a game. He may not have gone off as a receiver but for one game at least he was more involved in the passing game than at any other point in his NFL career. Is this the start of a trend? Perhaps a reflection of no Chris Henry (and to a lesser extent no Chris Perry)? We'll have to see. But if the trend holds Rudi's stock in PPR leagues certainly will rise.

I think it's out of necessity (no Perry, no Irons) that will lead to more catches for Rudi. Doesn't look like he's going to do a helluva lot with 'em though.
