Rudi Johnson trade bait for a "real WR" (1 Viewer)

captbly

Footballguy
boy this rumor has impact on lots of area. Speaks well for Chris Perry and bad for Ocho Cinco. What does it mean for Rudi? who knows.

Uhhhhh.......... :football:

Wide receiver is about the only position they DON'T need help at.

Linebacker and D-line are very, very pressing needs for them.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Bengals are shopping Rudi Johnson in trade talks.Mortensen says they're asking for a "real receiver," or someone who could help if Chad Johnson (partially torn labrum) has a setback. We doubt Cincy could get anything for Rudi, but this may be a sign the team is ready to move on with Chris Perry and Kenny Watson. Johnson's roster spot could be in doubt. Aug. 25 - 7:44 pm et

I dunno but I'm going to take with several pounds of salt. Chris Mortensen's credibility, after Whisenhunt completely denied his report, has been tossed out a several story window for me..

I dont know, Mort was pretty much right on with the Farve thing. Even when the Packers denied it.

What teams could potentially be interested in Rudi, irregardless of whether they have a "real receiver" to offer or not?

Houston is the only team I can think of and it has already been mentioned.

If he was to be traded/cut that would sort out some of the fantasy football mess this backfield currently represents.

This wasn't the first instance of Mort jumping the gun or passing off speculation as reporting. He's definitely iffy in my book.

Are their rookies THAT lousy? Even *if* CJ goes down they still have Housh...better teams win with less wr talent. Does Lewis own Palmer in his fantasy league? Why else would he be concerned with getting him MORE weapons when they should be getting defensive players that aren't on their way to prison???

The Bengals are reminding everyone they're not as bad as The Cardinals or Lions but they're close...

1. Who is going to give up anything for a player that sucked last year, and has yet to be seen in preseason?

2. How is a WR going to help? The line cant bloody block! The D cant tackle. They have plenty of WR's. What the deuce?

Plus the Ronnie Brown story, the numerous stories last year.I dunno man, Mort has lost whatever he had. It's starting to feel like last year all over again. He just keeps throwing stuff out there to see if ANYTHING sticks.I really don't buy anything he's selling anymore.

Considering he's not an upgrade over Alexander, Benson, Dayne, don't imagine their will be any interest.

He's damaged goods. Good luck finding that 'real WR'. If you want a WR equal value to Rudi, try looking on the street.

where'd he do that?
On a radio show in AZ I believe. Said the starting role is still Leinart's as they had yet to review the game and they can't base the decision off of a few plays or something like that.

Who wasn't?! Seriously, was it really that big of a story? Did anyone really expect Favre to stay retired? And even if you did, you were probably very likely to still be open to the possibility of his return.

you mean this from the Warner thread?
Whisenhunt is on local KTAR 620 radio right now. He denied the Mort report that Warner would start. Whiz said they have not yet made the decision on who will start for AZ in SF. He said Leinart did not play his best in Oak, but that he would not make a QB decision on one half of football.
that's far from completely denying Mort's report. in fact it's a non-denial denial. completely denying the report would have been Whisenhunt saying "Leinart is the starter week 1"

My real question is whether Chris Perry is really the guy?

I mean the injuries he has had are frequent and long.

Has he looked that great in the preseason? His stats don't show it. He always looked like a big and fast guy with little wiggle or vision. Others?

I heard something on NFL Network and he basically said something along the lines of, and I'm paraphrasing here, "Since when does Chris Mortensen choose our starting QB?"

I think he'll be the starter whether Rudi's there or not. I think you'll still see Watson in there. No clue on what the breakdown will be.I've all but stuck a fork in Rudi. Don't think you'll find a suitor in this RB market on a still injured RB coming off a sub 3.0 ypc season. Not so sure he'll any sort of upgrade over guys on the street.I certaintly don't think Perry's looked anywhere close to where he was 2-3 years ago, but the opportunity is his for the taking IMO and he does offer far more versatility than Rudi does.

again, a non-denial denial. as i posted in the Warner thread, my guess is there is conflict within the Cards' org over who should start, and one side leaked it, and Whisenhunt's pissed off about it.

Bengals | R. Johnson practices Monday

Mon, 25 Aug 2008 14:51:21 -0700

Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals RB Rudi Johnson (hamstring) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 25, He said he will play in the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 28.

Wonder if their be any Texan scouts in the stands Thursday night?

Rudi id finished aniway he would nt be any help even if Perry would break both leg .

Actually he ripped Mort pretty hard on the clip I heard on NFLN - basically said I guess Mort thinks he';s makign decisions' or some such.It was pretty definitive he didn't like the rumor.

Boo hoo, Whisenhunt doesn't like Mort's story about the decision he hasn't announced yet. Coaches are control freaks, so they don't like leaks of their actions ahead of time.

The thing that I find the most funny about this story is that the Bengals seem to think that another team is going to give up a good WR for a washed up Rudi Johnson.

I certainly wouldnt give up a "real wr" for rudi in my fantasy leagues. :football:

Makes sense. What doesn't make sense to me is why the Cardinals wouldn't just wait until after Leinart's performance in the last pre-season game. Is it the new trend to announce the winner of a position battle ultra early?

When they call asking for a "real" WR won't the other teams actually want a "real" RB?

Rudi is toast and i doubt he'd even be picked up for much more then the vet min if Cinci cut him.

Well, assuming they at least made the decision behind closed doors, why not just wait until they had a full pre-seasons worth of film and stats to help make a decision with?

Because the same person "broke" both of them. But your right, this is heading down an entirely different path then what the thread was started for.

At this point, you can't. I just think it's likely he's the starter and you'll have some sort of division of carries between him/Watson.I also don't think an injured Rudi brings much to the table as we saw last year. He'd probably get a few sniffs on the open market, but I really don't see him as a clear upgrade over some of the guys currently unemployed. The fact the hamstring is still bugging him after a full offseason is a terrible sign.
