Pushing McGahee Out The Door? Bills Sign Chris Brown

Posted Mar 7th 2007 4:56PM by Dan Benton

Filed under: Bills, AFC East, NFL Free Agency, Buffalo

According to ESPN News, the Buffalo Bills and running back Chris Brown have agreed to a contract. No terms on the contract were given but this should all but spell the end to Willis McGahee's tenure in Buffalo. It also leaves the possibility of Corey Dillon coming to Buffalo up in the air.

Brown has had an up-and-down NFL career that hit a low point last season. He played in only five games due to injuries and had seen decreased carries each of the last two seasons. It was a far cry from his 2004 campaign when he averaged almost 5 yards per carry and had his first and only 1,000 yards season.

This is a high risk, high rewards deal for Buffalo. If they could get the 2004 version of Brown they are in good shape. If not, they better have someone to fall back on.

Great place for Brown to land IMHO.Interesting.And of course... :lmao:
His upright running style will mesh well with the cold air.The domino affect is that the Titans are now EXTREMELY thin at RB with only Lendale White on board. While I would love to see them go after Rhodes here, I have no idea who they will target. Someone like Booker or Pittman might warrant consideration in round 3 or 4...

One would think they'll have to bring somebody in...wow though. The Titans really are sold on Lendale, there might actually be something to this.

boll weevils? Is that a semi-pro team in Oklahoma?

I'd like to say McGahee is definately going somewhere now, but is Brown dependable enough to trade McGahee? Maybe the Bills are expecting to draft another or sign another FA?

As a Brown owner, I like that. Fresh start with a team that would appear to be on the verge of dealing away the only other viable starter on the roster. I have no idea whether Brown will ever amount to anything, but this certainly is about as good of a destination as I could have hoped for.

agreed, even the A-Train appeared revitalized in Buffalo.

Oh, and the Bills have just shelled out a lot of money on free agent o-linemen.

Would this signing happen before the Bills knew for sure that they were going to trade McGahee?

McGahee to the Ravens for their 2nd rounder?
Too expensive...I'm thinking a high third would get it done.
A 2nd is too expensive but McGahee and #11 for #3 isn't?That 2nd isn't worth as much as 8 spots in the first and moving into the top 3.
Perhaps. But the thinking is that the Browns still get one of the players they covet (Anderson, Brown, perhaps even QUinn) for a fraction of the price.

This is definately a precursor to the Bolls

dealing McGahee, to either the Browns or the Ravens.

Come on Bolls, send McGahee to Baltomore.

I do like that deal for the Browns.

I don't think Chris Brown will be the only RB in camp. If this deal happens, I fully expect him to have some competition for the starting job.So, even if the Bills are set on trading McGahee, I think Brown is just 1 of at least 2 RBs they'll be adding.

:sadbanana: I would have to agree. Who would be the third guy to pair up with A Train and Brown? Lewis? Rhodes?

I don't think it will be a high profile guy. Maybe a RB in the mid rounds of the draft.

Ron Dayne needs a reason to be hyped again. Perfect situation for him.

So what are we projecting Brown in Buffalo stats to look like.

1500 total yards/8 TD's seems about right.
Funny, but AJ Smith is more entertaining.
You don't think he can put up 90 or so total yards a game in a starting role?Granted he isn't the most healthy guy, but when doing projections i give them a full 16 game slate.
That's your first mistake.
You think it's better to play a guessing game and pick a number out of a hat? Projections are for the most part worthless, but if your going to waste time doing them they should be based on a 16 game season. Those are 16 game projections, i do knock him down due to injury concern, so i guess it's better to say I project 93.75 yards and .5 TD's a game when he's playing, that way we don't have to use the guessing game of how many games he'll play.

Brown and Train?
I would not feel comfortable going into the season with that.
nor would I.
Nor would I, but who are you more scared of... Brown or Train? What about Brown between the 20s and Dillon to hammer it in?Gotta also think that Buffalo just showed it's hand a little, huh? As far as trading Willis goes...Also: damn are the jobs drying up fast! Gotta start thinking Rhodes, Dillon and Lewis might be going back home.

Interesting signing. I've never been a big fan of Brown, but he is capable, when healthy. Hopefully this change of scenery will do him well.

It looks to be true, but I am still praying McGahee is traded. I hope that happens soon.

If it does, and the Bills have to go into the season with Brown, and A-Train, I am fine with that. I was fine with just A-Train to tell you the truth.

They could burn a late-ish pick on a prospect for depth, and I'd be happy. Heck, even if they trade McGahee for a 3rd, and spend it on a RB they are still in good shape.
