Rumor: Bills sign Chris Brown? (1 Viewer)

Wonder what's going on here ...
I think what's going on is that Chris Brown wants good starter money and no team wants to give it to him with his injury history. He'd definitely be one guy that I'd be upset about overpaying for. I actually like him but you can't get big money to a guy that can't stay on the field. I also think that he wants to be the #1 RB and I don't think that any team is going to plan on making him their clear #1 RB going forward, again, because of the injury history.

So now it's a waiting game. Eventually he'll either drop his price or some team will get too antsy and overpay him. He's definitely a guy that needs a contract with performance bonuses though.
The guaranteed money is probably the hold up since no one wants to guarantee much money to a RB injured as often as Brown has been. With the market the way it is I wouldn't be surprised if Brown is asking for $10M+ guaranteed, in the neighborhood of what Henry got from the Broncos.

herd today on my drive home on detroit sports radio that Brown has narrowed it to Detroit & Buffalo, with a decision coming soon, nothing but pure rumor/speculation though.

Acknowledging past errors in judgement, Lions GM Matt Millen said today "Drafting all those WR's in the first round was a mistake. It threw our team out of balance for years by shortchanging other positional needs. I'm going to sign 8 or 10 RB's to make up for it."

:homer:

There's no such thing as a bad Matt Millen joke.

I hope the Bills lay off of Brown, he's a fine player when on the field. But to overpay when you could get a rookie that may be very good (Lynch) why do it?

Brown has already proven to be a malcontent as well, didn't Buffalo just get rid of one of those?

Detroit does not make sense unless KJs injury is worse than first thought.
Actually Brown makes more sense than Bell. Last I've seen Bell can't really catch and is not a good blocker. Brown can do both of those things. Then they could trade Bell to Buffalo or Green Bay.

I went to Cal, so I am a big fan of Lynch, but I can't endorse any skill player from Cal. There have been so many promising players at those positions, but since Bartkowski and Muncie in the mid 70's only Tony Gonzalez has panned out. Lynch also missed a lot of time over the last two years due to injury. A broken finger two years ago, and sprained ankles last year. Nobody would be happier than me if Lynch was a star for Buffalo (how many Bills/Cal Bears fans can there be?), but I'd feel a lot better about the pick if he fell to the 2nd round. I also would prefer not to put any Rookie directly into a starting role.

People used to say the same thing about Penn State RBs before Larry Johnson. I always focus on the player much more so than the program.

I'm not an expert on the the Bills but considering Buffalo has a lot of other needs I think getting Chris Brown would be a good move. That would allow them to draft a defensive player at #12 and maybe get Antonio Pittman in the 2nd. Since the draft is deep at WR they could grab someone in the 3rd.
