Not sure how much validity there is to this. Think it would be a bump for Boldin & McNabb. And AZ passing game would take a serious hit.

-- Rumor: Cardinals to Trade Boldin for Sheppard? --

Sun Jul 27, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

ESPN Radio reports rumors are starting to circulate that the Arizona Cardinals are considering a trade in which they would send disgruntled WR Anquan Boldin to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for unhappy CB Lito Sheppard.

been rumors of this for a while, but the Eagles will need to add a draft pick of some sort. I'd be very surprised (but happy) if anything went down.

We've known for a while that the Eagles have been trying to get this trade done but there hasnt been any interest on the Cards part. I wonder if the fact that Lito's new agent (Rosenhaus) being the agent of both players has helped to put some motion to this trade.

Very good point and more than likely true. No matter what happens, I'm sure Rosenhaus will get his.

Interesting about Rosenhaus, I never thought of that.Philly has plenty of draft picks to "sugar up" a deal like this, but I'm not sure I can see Arizona going into the year starting Early Doucet or Steve Breaston. Maybe the Cards would want Reggie Brown?

McNabb to Boldin would be just sick.

Talk about a true #1. He has been going in the late 4th, early 5th it seems, and this move would propel him to the late 2nd early 3rd where Plax and TJ and Welker, etc are going.

It's all rumour anyway, but wtf and lol @ the Cards if they do this. If they can't afford to give Boldin a new contract, how can they afford Sheppard? Is there some contractual specifics I'm missing here?

maybe it's a matter of where (at what positions) they want to invest the money. if i'm the cards, i have to question how much good having two stud WRs does when i can't run the ball or stop anyone.

Last I heard AZ was bumping their heads on the ceiling re cap room. And IMO Sheppard isn't good enough to forfeit Boldin anyway.

Agreed, but if Philly really wants him they have a bunch of extra draft picks sitting around, including an extra 1st rounder from the Otah deal, that they could package for an impact player now.I think it would be somewhat silly if Samuel's minor injury prevented them from making a deal like this(assuming this is at all legit.) Hanson is a decent CB and a #1 WR is more important than a nickel corner. It's interesting that someone mentioned Arizona not wanting to spend so much cap space on one position, because I think that is Philly's reasoning for Shephard.I think something like Boldin/2nd for Shephard/1st would be a deal that would help both teams, although Arizona would probably need to add a WR if they do make a move, even if its just a guy like Keenan McCardell.

Ever since Boldin announced he would play out his contract and leave Zona, I've expected these sorts of trade rumors. I was expecting Dallas, though, to be the rumored partner. Boldin talk over the next week or two should get interesting.

What a difference a year makes. Four years ago, Sheppard was a unanimous 1st-team AP All Pro (he actually has as many 1st team All Pro awards as any CB this decade not named Bailey or Barber). Three years ago, he was injured and ineffective when on the field. Two years ago, he was a Pro Bowler and turning heads ago. Last year, he was injured and ineffective when on the field. If Arizona believes they can get him healthy again, Sheppard is absolutely good enough to forfeit Boldin for. Especially considering the disparity in the relative value of the two positions. I mean, Nate Clements had a career that looks a lot similar to Sheppard's without the injuries, and Clements became the highest-paid defender in NFL history. It appears that that was a colossal blunder, but the point remains that there are plenty of justifications for trading Boldin for Sheppard (not the least of which is that Boldin's going to be gone, so you should get value while you can).On the flipside... I shudder to think what would happen to Fitzgerald if this went down. I mean, the guy was ALREADY twice topped 160 targets in his 4-year career (the two years he didn't he was either a rookie or injured). Add to this the fact that Boldin topped 160 targets the year before Fitzgerald came to town, too, and you've got a team with a track record of force-feeding led by one of the few guys in the league for whom amassing ridiculous target totals is a demonstrable skill rather than a year-to-year fluke. I think Fitz, if he stayed healthy, would easily become just the 5th WR since 2002 to top 180 targets, and I think he could even make a serious run at Harrison's record of 204 targets.

Not that the Cards are about doing anything that makes sense, but...

I can see them wanting to limit their investment in WR, but Adrian Wil$on, $Antrel Rolle$, 1st rd pick $DRC$, Up and Comming Eric Greene, and stable Rod Hood, adding another DB at that cost doesn't seem to make sense.

Now if some OL help, especially Gaurd was introduced, I think the Cards would listen.

I listen to/read nearly every word here locally and put the odds of Boldin being traded at less than 10%. He isn't going anywhere. But he is a great player/addition to any team and if you want to fantasize about Boldin suiting up elsewhere, I guess this is a good place to do it.

:goodposting: People over value WR's on this board as compared to real value in the NFL world. A top flight CB, which Lito is when healthy is much more valuable to a team than a #2 WR.

With Asante Samuel coming up limp in practice and having an MRI diagnose him with a hamstring strain, I hardly think the Eagles are going to be running to trade Lito. :goodposting:

What would the trade do to Doucet's value in ARI? Or even Breaston?
Hush, man! I have 6 rookie drafts starting Friday!Seriously though, I was a big fan of Doucet's prospects until he landed in Zona behind Fitz and Boldin. If Boldin were to move, I'd put him right up with Kelly, Sweed, Avery. I'm pretty sure most would disagree with me, but I'm used to that. :shrug:I've also been touting Mike Walker, Devin Hester and Robert Meachem for dynasty since January but few will listen. Most people only see things AFTER they already happen; few see things coming. If Boldin leaves, Doucet is coming.
