And codeine is necessary to get over strep HOW exactly??? Literally, just, so stupid.Common codeine use is for cough suppression and it's prescribed quite often for that. But he shoulda known better.
You're lying. Liar.read this on Browns forum
"Josh Gordon releases statement saying had strep in Feb, took cough medicine he did not realize contained codeine. Bad start w/new regime"
level of idiocy increases by a billion.
Any doctor prescribing that would likely tell him that is has codeine and would be banned. You would figure the Dr knows he is an athlete, right?? Hell, he probably goes to the TEAM doctor.
So yeah, he is lying if he actually said that.
It's a pain medication, strep is painful. And codeine is necessary to get over strep HOW exactly??? Literally, just, so stupid.Common codeine use is for cough suppression and it's prescribed quite often for that. But he shoulda known better.
You are royally missing the point here. It is not NECESSARY. Which is why I said it isn't NECESSARY in my original post. It's a pain medication, strep is painful. And codeine is necessary to get over strep HOW exactly??? I understand why he was suspended. But really this doctor must be the biggest dumba$$ on the planet or Gordon is lying and just decided he wanted to team up with JaMarcus Russell and sip on some purple drank. He's a NFL WR obviously he can't have codeine why was it prescribed? You are royally missing the point here. It is not NECESSARY. Morphine would be helpful for a strained ankle, but it sure isn't necessary.
So, the doctor is a total jackass for giving it to him, and he is a jackass for not going to a team doctor and/or making sure the it was good to take with the league.
This hurts my Browns bad for a while, so so stupid.
Well, we only know what Gordon claims. Players can say they got suspended for whatever they want. The NFL is not allowed to say a peep in correction thanks to the CBA. I do know that my wife was prescribed cough syrup with codeine when she had strep though. But it's purely a comfort thing, not a healing thing. If this is what really happened (and I have my doubts), then Gordon and his doctor are extraordinarily dumb. Especially Gordon.I always do a double take when I see players suspended for codeine use. It's the same narcotic classification as morphine and oxycontin. Then I remember the connection to "purple drank." Not saying that's the underlying issue here, just noting the reason it makes the list while oxys and other narcotics do not.
There are instances where college can carry over. I know Luis Castillo entered the league in the substance abuse program for taking steroids before the combine. I believe Mathieu is entering the league already enrolled in the substance abuse program, too. Don't know what the criteria are, but I'm pretty sure it's possible.Has to be strike one right? I don't remember of any other instances, and I don't think college carries over, does it?is this strike 1 or strike 2 under the NFL policy?

Edit: And let's not forget that, in the most absurd, asinine ruling ever, the NFL suspended Terrelle Pryor for 5 games for doing things that are not against the NFL's rules while in a league with which the NFL is not actually affiliated.
He definitely is at least in the Intervention program. Whether that's from a previous positive test or because his previous history was enough for the NFL to put him in we don't know. Thanks for the link. Not totally sure it's current info though as 2011 was under the previous CBA.Nice overview of the substance abuse policy towards the end.
It's actually sort of opaque, but two games is not mentioned as a penalty. And suspension isn't mentioned for the first offense either.
Per Sirius XM Radio's Adam Caplan, the Browns have been "privately very concerned with Gordon for months," and his suspension was "hardly" a surprise.
Suspended WR Josh Gordon claims his two-game ban stems from prescribed antibiotics and cough medicine that contained codeine, which is disallowed under the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
Gordon claims he had strep throat in February and took the cough medicine without realizing it contained codeine. While Gordon's issues are a long-term concern, ultimately a two-game absence deal his fantasy value a minor blow.

I don't think he has a legal basis for a claim against the doctor unless the doctor was specifically tasked to avoid banned substances, regardless of whether the doctor was aware or not aware that the substance was banned. A doctor typically does not have that level of duty to his or her patient where he would be legally or contractually required to avoid subscribing substances banned by an employer (or in this case, the NFL). It is Gordon's responsibility to figure all that out.If Josh Gordon asks the NFL to release the report will they do it? Has he said whether the doctor was aware of banned substances that he couldn't take? If so is he taking legal action against the doctor?

Speeding might kill another person, especially at the given example of 150 mph.Two Deep said:Rather him be speeding than smoking dope.
This. He's been a pothead. I'm assuming he still is, but doesn't want to destroy his image/future value by admitting it.Well, we only know what Gordon claims. Pretty much they can suspended u for what ever and when ever they want, no checks and balancesIn this case:There are instances where college can carry over. Sources told ESPNCleveland that #Browns WR Josh Gordon would have been suspended longer but college positive tests didn't carry over to NFL.
Right. And u have to wonder, why is this idiot not consulting the TEAM doctor.I don't think he has a legal basis for a claim against the doctor unless the doctor was specifically tasked to avoid banned substances, regardless of whether the doctor was aware or not aware that the substance was banned. A doctor typically does not have that level of duty to his or her patient where he would be legally or contractually required to avoid subscribing substances banned by an employer (or in this case, the NFL). I thought that as well, but really, it is super easy to get a script for anything you want. It would all be abused.I haven't thought through all of the implications yet, but in any other job/industry, a legit prescription for cough meds with codeine would in no way lead to an issue at work...even for those in the military.Doesn't the NFL policy allow for the temporary and proper proper use of meds like this as long as prescribed legally? If not, it should.
You can't be shocked. He blew two scholarships. It's weird if he is lying. I would rather people just think that I disregarded the rules and smoked some weed. Instead he looks like a raging idiot for blowing 4 game checks because of some strep throat cough medicine. On a side note........................why is codeine banned?? Are all pain killers banned?? I mean, isn't pretty much everyone hurt all the time with stuff that most of the general public would take some Percocet or Vikodin or something for? I realize every player in the league could easily get a prescription, so every player would be able to use them...................but I think it's weird that painkillers are banned in a sport where you go through 50 car accidents every game.
Remember when the guys Min had a script or some over the counter drug and the NFL suspended them. They tied the case up for what, 2 yrs in court? but the NFL still got their way in the end. Josh is too young to do that action so best thing to do is throw yourself at their mercy and hope for a reduction.I haven't thought through all of the implications yet, but in any other job/industry, a legit prescription for cough meds with codeine would in no way lead to an issue at work...even for those in the military.

I have a bad feeling over the next few years you will be able to buy lower.i got 5 on him. buy buy buy.
Either Gordon is not telling the truth or the NFL has a completely messed up system of doling out suspensions.Isaiah Pead's one-game suspension stems from a July 2012 arrest for possession of two ounces of marijuana. The details of Pead's one-game ban initially went undisclosed as neither the NFL nor its players is under any obligation to explain suspensions. Coach Jeff Fisher has publicly supported Pead, who is almost a year removed from the violation and insists he's in a better place "mentally" after a lost rookie year.
This guy was not only suspended but kicked out of Baylor.KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It’s called lean, sizzurp, or purple drank. In hip hop music, it’s the subject of countless songs.
Rapper Lil’ Wayne has been known to enjoy it, but reports say it was an overdose of codeine that landed Lil’ Wayne in the hospital earlier this year.
One of purple drank’s main ingredients is codeine, mixed with promethazine it’s a mixture common in cough syrups.
Local pharmacists believe those cough syrups may be why their businesses were recently burglarized.
“From what I’m finding out now this cough syrup is being sold to young children in high school as a drink to get high off of,” said Pete Spalitto, a pharmacist.
The drink contains the cough syrup mixed with other ingredients to make it more appealing.
“I’m not too wild about celebrities promoting drugs of abuse. It’s stupid,” said Tama Sawyer, the director of the University of Kansas Hospital Poison Control Center.
Sawyer says while it’s seen as a party drink, purple drank isn’t for fun.
“Ultimately it can lead to a coma and then to death,” Sawyer said.
Sawyer says it causes extreme dryness of the nose and mouth and can slow your breathing and heart rate.
“You can’t see because your vision is so blurry, you can’t sweat, you can’t control your body temperature,” she warned. “You get hallucinations with this, which you wouldn’t normally get with just alcohol.”
While some people sing its praises, Sawyer and other experts say the purple stuff doesn’t work in harmony with your life.

We all did stupid things when we were young and then we grew up, but we were not blessed with NFL ability and millions of dollars were not on the line for us. Great posting Bracie.Josh Gordon says he was prescribed a cough medicine for strep throat and is an unwitting victim who had no idea the cough syrup contained codeine.
The same Josh Gordon posted a pic a few months ago of a guy, who looked suspiciously like Josh Gordon, bending over a bong in a haze of smoke from his twitter account. The picture was quickly removed when it began being re-tweeted and the person who posted the pic must have come to the realization that pictures can be re-tweeted and others can see them.
The same Josh Gordon who posted a tweet about how much he loved the TV program called WEEDS.
Now he had a cold and was prescribed cough medicine.
Um, not buying it kid.

The guy then failed a drug test at Utah and never played.
He has already cost himself literally MILLIONS of dollars.
He only caught 43 passes in his entire college career but snared 50 of them in his rookie NFL season.
He has rare athletic gifts to be a great NFL WR.
We see things like this many times where a guy who has rare gifts hangs out with leaches who feed off of him and make him do stupid things. Hey Joshy, smoke this. Hey Joshy, why don't you post that pic on your twitter account? Ha ha it will be funny. Hey Joshy, drink this its cool man.
Your leach buddies have cost you MILLIONS of dollars Josh.
They will take you down, they are not your friends, they don't have your rare gifts and few people do.
You can be great or you can ruin your career.
Get rid of your stoner leaches and become a great player and person.
Doh.FYPSmoke weed everyday/natedogg RIP
Pead got 1 game for marijuana arrest and Gordon gets 2 games for supposed mistakenly taking codine. It really doesn't add up.With 3 drug tests failed already coming out of college, I'm not buying the cough syrup story, 2 game suspension. Next!

Just read this on rotoworld:I don't think Pead got busted for substance abuse. He got busted for some sort of personal conduct. Also, as far as I can tell Gordon did get a reduction in his penalty. The policy doesn't mention a two game suspension as an option.Pead got 1 game for marijuana arrest and Gordon gets 2 games for supposed mistakenly taking codine.
