Very thin at this this point. But throwing it out.

Please note, this is NOT CONFIRMED by any stretch.

According to “Kobe,” a former radio jockey in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders have completed a deal, pending league approval, that would send suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to Oakland for Nnamdi Asomugha and a swap of first-round picks.

Take a deep breath. This source said this yesterday and nothing has happened. As he's saying this, Schefter is saying Oakland is not in the mix, so take this with a major grain of salt.

I'm a pretty big Asomugha fan. I think he's more dominant at his position than Ben is at his position. His contract is pricey, but that just reflects how good he is. Also, moving up to #8 in the draft is pretty valuable (to normally trade up from #18 to #8 would require at least a second round pick). Pitt could move back down from #8 to #17 if they wanted, and pick up a second rounder, maybe a high one. They'd obviously need a QB but they would get a pretty huge upgrade at CB (which is what burned Pittsburgh the most last year).

Trading Holmes was a bad move, because I think a lot of QBs could have done pretty well with Ward/Holmes/Miller/Wallace. But I still think, all things considered, Pittsburgh makes out pretty well here as long as they can resign Asomugha to a long-term deal.

Not that I believe the story, but if a trade happened, I don't know why it would happen before the Raiders were on the clock. If PIT is going to make a franchise-altering trade, they may as well make sure the guy they want is there to be drafted.

The voice of reason....If it were true, it wouldn't have lasted an hour (let alone a day) without being all over the place...

This.Nothing will be announced until Captain Dumbazz is at the podium.

I don't think the Steelers would pay Asomugha what's on his contract even if this had legs, so I don't see how this gets pulled off prior to the draft. I would think the Steelers would require him to restructure before they made the trade.

As EG said, this came out last night on the Twitter of a guy who mainly posts about Justin Beiber concerts. I'll wait for someone else.

They'd better either weigh 250 pounds and have quick feet or have about 4.4 speed. I'd love to see how effective Manning would be if he had 2 seconds to throw on 80% of his passing downs. That's where Ben's value lies, and it doesn't always show up in stats. Avoiding 1 or 2 waves of rushers, keeping his feet, keeping his eyes downfield, and hitting an open receiver for a first down or big play when 99% of other QBs would have taken a sack or had to throw the ball away.

The pick would have to be Jimmy Clausen wouldn't it? The other options would be OL or Joe Haden.
I don't know what they think of Clausen. I think the kid would be under way too much pressure coming in as a one-year wonder and having to face the expectations of filling those shoes. I think Bulaga, Trent Williams, Haden, or maybe even McClain, Dan Williams, or CJ Spiller might be possibilities.

If they did this trade I think they would go with Bulaga and roll the dice with Dixon/Leftwich this season. May draft Skelton in the 4th or 5th and groom him for the future.

"a former radio jockey"this sounds credible
Exactly. It's a "done deal" although Mort, Schefter, Sirius NFL Radio, etc.. are still saying Oakland is out of any talks, if they ever existed.
Mort and Schefter can be wrong. :tumbleweed:I have zero dog in the fight and don't care either way. It's absolutely a RUMOR at this point and NOT CONFIRMED by any stretch as I said. But a trade to Oakland absolutely could make sense. But people are right, if it's happened, we won't know until tonight. I would say it's not likely to be true. But I'll also say I don't believe Mort and Schefter know everything Al Davis is doing.J

I know, I'm not ripping you here, I just can't believe a supposedly credible NFL source (spinzone, not FBG) would run with this story when it was twittered (tweeted?) last night by some former disc jockey who blogs about boy-band concerts, and has since been countered by multiple real sources saying there is and will not be a Pittsburgh-Oakland deal.A trade to Oakland could make sense if Al Davis wasn't still stewing over the Immaculate Reception.

Good deal for Oakland if true. They're not going to make the playoffs without a new QB.

His most recent post on this was 13 hours ago, where he said, "Looks like it died down."

I think he's hiding in his room now, with the phone off the hook.

Yeah, part of it is the day of the draft thing. That coupled with the Roethlisberger story has everyone champing at the bit. And for sites, it's a tough line to walk sometimes. Everyone is so worried about scoops. For instance, in almost all cases, I'll wait until I have a rock solid source before sending an email update on a story. Sometimes there will be sketchy sources saying something early. When I send the update with a credible source, I'll often get the "you guys suck, xxxxxxx site told me about that 2 hours ago". So stuff like that pushes a site to maybe run with things early. PFT cashed in doing this. Some mock them as throwing stuff on the wall but the reality is that some folks love that. So it's a fine line. What I've sort of settled on is that I'll go ahead and throw stuff out like this on the boards, on facebook and on twitter when I see it with the caveat that I'll very clearly state it's a rumor. It's more of a "keep this on your radar" thing. And then I'll hold off on sending anything to the email list until I know it's confirmed. Don't know if that's the right way, but it seems to work ok for us.J

OK, let's say this is true and an agreement is in place. Would the league allow the teams to wait until the Raiders are up in the #8 slot to announce the deal so that other teams don't have as much time to adjust or make any type of counter moves?
