Rumor: Packers to cut Koren Robinson (1 Viewer)

I disagree...the only place you all are close is on Rice vs Jennings...after that, despite all your talk...the Vikings cannot put 5 wide out there that is nearly as scary as what GB puts out there.
Just for grins, why the HECK would the Vikings EVER even want to go five-wide? You swap the Pack and Vikings WR corps out entirely, and I still couldn't envision a reasonable scenario where the Purple would put five WRs on the field at the same time. Hail Mary pass at the end of a half or a game is about all I can think of...but you're talking like going five-wide is some kind of litmus test or badge of honor.
2. Why? Are the Vikings going to hit Rodgers late alot? You do realize when they went 5 wide that it was not 5 step drops and wait for long patterns to develop don't you? It was quick passes...(a great way to neutralize the pass rush)...and Im not worried about Jared Allen...Clifton can handle him. The addition of Williams is nice...Johnson...meh. They are not yet that much better. And that premier rush D was torn apart by GB in their 2nd meeting last year...
Again, just for grins, do you think that opposing defensive coordinators will respect Aaron Rodgers even HALF as much as they did Brett Favre? Knowing that the Pack has a younger O-Line, and knowing that they'll also have a young and very green QB behind center, you don't think those LBs and DBs will be inching up...looking for the quick dink-and-dunk crossing patterns or curls? Favre kept the DBs honest by his well-deserved reputation. Rodgers hasn't earned squat in the way of fear/respect, and defenses will dare him to beat them over the top...instead of chipping away at them 5-6 yards at a time. Going over the top will take more time to develop...time that opposing defenses can use to lay some serious lumber on Rodgers.
If he is marginally better...the Packers are probably about even with Minny.

I think some of you underestimate how good GB's D is as well.

Bobby Wade is not a great or even that good of a WR. Please quit acting as if he is.
On the Packers D/ST, you're absolutely wrong...at least with me. Green Bay has been a STRONG "buy" for me in my dynasty leagues for the past two seasons...and I have continually bought them low while recouping higher-than-anticipated returns. That defense is pretty darned good, and I've won a couple more dynasty games the past couple of years because of it! I've also seen them in action in probably half their NFL games the past two seasons, and I know they can bring a little noise and funk. :excited: On Wade, I'm gonna try this ONE more time: NOBODY IS SAYING THAT WADE IS A GREAT WIDE RECEIVER! Can folks read that, or do I need to increase the font size? :D What I've been saying is that I just don't see a big "gap" between him, per se, and Jones/Martin/Nelson. Guys can cite stats until they are blue in the face, and it is completely and utterly meaningless! Apples (Favre, pass-first) vs. Oranges (T-Jax, pass only to keep 'em remotely honest). Wade is no superstar in anyone's wildest imagination. However, neither are Jones/Martin/Nelson.

Five wide had just as much to do with Favre as anything, I seriously doubt you'll see that any where near as much this year.
Early on...5 wide had more to do with a lack of ability to run the ball consistently.Instead, they used the short passing game and spread the field as a way to "run the ball".Later in the year...when running the ball was working much more with Grant...they still ran 5 wide some...but you saw more 4 wide formations. And I think you will see more of that too...but I don't think 5 wide will go away as much as you think. Remember...Rodgers is also a bit quicker than Favre and can carry the ball some.

Not a badge of honor...just that its a deep group. If Jones gets hurt...they do not fall too far back going to Ruvell (and hopefully Nelson). When Jennings was out to start they year, they did not lose much going to Jones at #2 and having others in the #3 role. (Robinson was not even back yet at that point). If a team does not want to use a strength like 5 very talented WRs to spread teams out...then that might be a problem with your coaching staff. GB does it because they have the weapons and can do it. And it works.

So they are just going to play up the whole time and risk getting burnt? Ok...I don't think Rodgers will hesitate to throw over the top either. I know teams will not respect Rodgers quite as much. And it will be harder for him. But, just adding Allen does not just mean...watch out Rodgers and bring in max protect right off the bat. Favre set the DBs up with the short passing game though this past year. THey did not just throw deep early in games all the time.

I was not just saying you personally...but I think some forget that their D is pretty good too.

I do see a big gap between Jones and Wade right now. I think Jones is already as good as him...and probably better...and that was as a rookie. Martin is probably about a Bobby Wade type guy. Big body...still learning though.Nelson is an unknown at this point though.

Funny - I remember when the board mentality here was all over KRob and dissing DJax.
Maybe they both suck.
One thing they have in common is the ability to drop a pass.
DJax got old in a hurry, but when they were on the 'Hawks, there was no doubt DJax as better.
Yup...and I loved it...because year after year...someone would take Robinson and a round or two later I would get DJax and watch him outperform K Rob.

I could be wrong, but that is EXACTLY how I think defenses will play the Packers in 2008 with Rodgers at the helm. Creep those DBs up, maybe drop an "extra" LB back over the middle while blitzing off the other side (blitzing, blitzing, then blitzing some more). Teams will want Rodgers to prove that he can handle the pressure and actually BEAT them instead of nibbling his way down the field. Favre could set-up the DBs with the short stuff...but until Rodgers proves he can do the same, that is exactly what I think the Packers offense can look forward to.Guys forget too that the Vikings didn't JUST add Jared Allen to the mix. They added Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson as DBs, as well as get a healthy Antoine Winfield back (a tackling machine from the CB position). Just imagine for a second if either Harris or Woodson was gone from your DB corps, AND Aaron Kampman went on I.R. That is essentially what the Vikings have been playing with on defense over the past two seasons...only with the Packers having a better LB corps and the Vikings having better DTs. They've done a GREAT job at stuffing the run with Williams and Williams in the middle, but teams simply started throwing over-top of it. You take Harris/Woodson and Kampman out of your line-up and, well, you'll see why Vikings fans are absolutely giddy about their off-season defensive acquisitions.

Funny...I heard all last year that defenses were going to step back and take away the Packers passing game because they did not respect the run game...that did not work either.Go ahead and creep up some...and then get burned. Oh...and keep blitzing...quick pass teams love that...it opens up things down the field for a team with WRs who are better after the catch than pretty much any other team out there when you look at the numbers. Hard to blitz extra guys when you are throwing out 4 and 5 wide...the only question is can Rodgers find the open guy. I think he can (people act as if the Cowboys stopped blitzing when Favre went down...the fact remains that they did not...and Rodgers still looked pretty damn good...its one game and Im not one that is overexcited just about that one half of a game...but it was a start and showed promise)

I agree the Williams pick up was a good one...though, sorry, Johnson does nothing for me.

Harris and Woodson have both missed time due to injuries before. (and both are better than Winfield IMO).
