Cecil Lammey

Footballguy
GM Jr is excited to announce that on the first two nights of the 2010 NFL Draft we will be streaming out own draft coverage over the internet (On this website and numerous others). Cecil Lammey from Footballguys.com and I will co-host the show which will be televised over the internet from GM Jr's offices. Unlike other draft coverage you will see, I will bring the perspective of a former NFL Scout who has sat in on draft meetings and been in the draft room during the draft. I can give you real reasons why teams will pass on certain players and why they selected others. In addition, I will not have the same thing to say about the players as all the other talking heads do throughout the draft.

:)

watch streaming coverage of the 2010 NFL Draft on your computer! We will be live chatting with people watching on Ustream.tv - I will also be discussing fantasy impacts on certain players when they get drafted.

Will you be grilling Russ on the fact that the Sporting News has Crompton as the #2 QB this year?

IIRC, Jaworski is also high on him.
:tinfoilhat:Russ and Jaws were at NFL Films on Monday breaking down the first-round. Both are very high on "City of" Crompton. Scouts question whether or not he's a one-year wonder because he didn't look good until Lane Kiffin showed up at Tennessee.

Cecil, it seems to me that a lot of Lande's rankings are outside the mainstream, so to speak. He seems to have a lot of contrarian views compared to most of the other "experts" out there. Any thoughts on that or him and his evaluations?

I trust Russ and his evaluations. He's not a guy that ranks Crompton #2 for press, or to get attention. I remember talking to him during the All-Star game road trip and he kept going on and on about Crompton and what stood out on film. When we saw Crompton at Texas vs The Nation it sealed the deal, and I'll admit the kid can play.

Even Charles Scott as the No. 5 RB and Anthony Dixon as the No. 18 RB?

I trust Russ, but that doesn't mean I agree with him on everything.

My point is this: Russ puts in more work watching film than any other draft expert. His opinions are formed from extensive film study - not from what a GM tells him over the phone. He's not ranking players so he starts a controversy, he's ranking players with his true opinions.

Starting to see Thomas has leapfrogged Berry in a few mocks. What's the rationale here?
Somebody sprained a synapse in their brain if that's what's going on. Berry could turn out to be the best player in this draft. Thomas could be a good player. I think Berry's got a lot of football intelligence that we've seen from the likes of Ed Reed.

 I met Russ at the 07 draft when I was there with Bloom. He seemed not only intelligent and knowledgeable about the players, but others were hanging on his opinion. I also know that he was one of the guys who had Kevin Kolb as the #1 QB in that draft (where Quinn kept slipping).

He's one of the guys where I listen when he speaks. I'm far from a Draftnik, but I certainly like to get several opinions from good evaluators, and he's on that list.

Looking forward to it. I'm hopeful that you guys talk about the players that are actually being selected on day 2 of the draft instead of using that time to review what happened in the first round the prior day like i'm sure the major media outlets will be doing.

This is an obvious must-watch. Kiper, McShay, and former players-turned-analysts have never been in a draft room (maybe McShay). To have a former scout provide insight into some of the things that happen in a draft room will be far more educational than what we see elsewhere. Even the former coaches we see on TV don't talk much about owners/coaches/GMs.

Plus, Cecil is dead-on that Lande studies games. You may not agree with all of his takes, but they are based on hard work. This is the first year I'm not tuning into a major network to watch it.

Does it cost $13 to follow the stream during the draft? That's the impression I got from the link on Cecil's first post. Thanks.

:football: Very much looking forward to the show with you and Russ.

If you aren't watching this, you are missing good stuff from Lande and Lammey. Easy to check out, go do it!
Yeah, and some guy who goes by The Gut Check keeps setting Lande up with awesome questions over Twitter.
Heck yeah. How often do you get to have a guy talking about the draft from a scout's eye rather than some former player talking about, grit, toughness, leadership, and that kind of stuff.

LOL!! Absolutely. Valuable nuggets about types of 3-4 defenses (sounds like an article I read last year from some Bramel dude). I liked his take on Berry though I don't completely agree. I liked his QB board with Levi Brown at No.5. Cecil must be enacting the gag reflect on that one.

Great info so far. I hope Russ' vocal chords hold up. What a treat it is to listen to Russ talk about all the ins and outs of each pick, not to mention each team's needs and uncertainties. Very informative. Great show fellas.

Great, great, story on Anquan Boldin and how Lande's group had him as the No.3 player overall then ran a poor 40 and other scouts downgraded to a late second, third round guy. Where else do you get that.

Cecil, awesome, just awesome job. Both you and Russ.

I'm telling you if Martians landed tonight and watched a little of you, NFLN and ESPN, they wouldn't have known who the "pros" were.

To hear you two just talk and not say anything stupid, not have any stupid nicknames, not conjecture about what a pick "might" be when they've already had it given to them a minute before via their earpiece was very refreshing.

Great job.

Been a little up and down here. Gone of air for about five minutes at one point like Identikit said and then slowly got better until no issues. Now I'm getting Be back after a 2 minute break graphic.

Outside that one little hiccup I've had no issue w/it.

They totally need a graphic for the 'technical difficulties' that has a cuckoo clock popping out of Cecil's forehead. :)

This has been awesome. I've been watching on ESPN/NFL Network with it muted and listening to Russ/Cec. Working out well.

My brother and father are Broncos fans (from Denver). My brother is inconsolable right now. I told him to text my dad and say his oldest son just said, "Revenge is mine sayeth the former Browns fan!"

Wow...just....wow!!!

Really? What does he think of people like McDaniels and Gruden that have a pretty good knowledge of quarterbacking? J

I think its debatable to say McDaniels and Gruden have that knowledge. Gruden hasn't seen a QB he didn't like. He's hit on exactly one QB he wanted and that was Gannon. McDaniels inherited the chance to coach Tom Brady. Am I off base on this and forgot someone? Seriously, Tebow in round 4-5, totally like the possibility. Round 1? I thought J-ville might for the reasons Russ said, because we heard those rumblings at the Senior Bowl. But it's a huge, huge gamble. You're betting a lot on character to win out. He might be that rare guy, but it's a risk.

I can see disagreeing with them but I'd have a hard time defending the position that Gruden and McDaniels aren't knowledgeable on QBs. No doubt it's a gamble. Will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out.J

Yeah, probably a little overboard :bag:That said, I'd say maybe the QB guru tag is a little too easily earned for these two. If you told me Mike Holmgren, Bill Polian, or someone like that liked Tebow in round one then I'd feel less skeptical. I'm very intrigued how it plays out, Joe. Obviously, I think he's a developmental project but what fuels my source of derision is how early they picked him. They could be geniuses on this one, but it's hard for me to see. I actually don't have any problem with Tebow over McCoy, who I think is vastly overrated. Clausen? Tough one. I guess Tebow was in demand by another team possibly (Buffalo), but it's just too difficult for me to look at a guy like Tebow who despite having everything you look for as a person but can he accelerate that learning curve like no one has done before? Certainly in business some of the best companies hire people with the personality/character over the experience/skill/technique, because they believe they can teach it. Gutsy pick, I just don't like it. Funny enough, I dislike the Thomas pick over Bryant almost as much.

Guys - any thoughts to Jared Odrick playing NT? Miami is loaded at DE for their 3-4 but desperately need help in the middle. Can he be an anchor? Hes a huge man but seems to be regarded more as a five technique.

Thoughts?

Guys- thanks for coming out! It was HOT under those studio lights, and we appreciate you guys tuning in! :goodposting:

It's nice to know that many of you consider us an upgrade to watching ESPN/NFLN

First day in the books, now I'm going to write about some picks and get to bed. Gotta get ready for day two! :lmao:
