Can anybody explain the lack of love for Ryan Grant???

GB is supposedly playing to win.

Grant has been a consistent performer.

The strength of schedule matchup is very good against DET for opposing RB's.

Grant is ranked in the upper 20's in my scoring system on custom cheatsheets as well as lineup dominator for both Bloom and Dodds.

Any ideas guys???

Green Bay already has the #2 seed & have nothing to play for.. I would think if he plays much it will be for a few series..

Grant is 101 shy of 1000yrds. That would be pretty impressive. Doubt he will be allowed to get it... but it would be a nice notch on his belt.

He shouldnt see the field at ALL.
I 100% agree with this but I'm sure the starters will play a series or two.. I was really surprised when Grant was in there last week against the Bears when they were down by 4 TD's with 4 minutes left.. I guess McCarthy wanted one good drive out of the starters.. That's what I see this week.. One good drive & then Favre et all see the bench...

I was suprised to see Grant ranked pretty high by Dodds and Bloom this week. I think they are assuming that he doesn't play the full game. One calculated him on 12 carries, the other 14, but that still seems high to me, given that four out of the past five weeks he has seen 18 carries or less, and those are games he's fully played. He's been awesome, but I'd seriously consider playing guys who are more likely to see the field all day.

Here you go, GB-- Grant Unlikely to Get Chance to get to 1,000 Yards Rushing --Fri Dec 28, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The Press Gazette reports Green Bay Packers HC Mike McCarthy isn't downplaying the significance of RB Ryan Grant's push for a 1,000-yard rushing season, but it won't affect the running back's playing time in Sunday's largely insignificant regular-season finale against the Detroit Lions. "I think it's a benchmark for a runner," McCarthy said on Thursday of the 1,000-yard mark, which Grant can reach with 101 yards on Sunday. "Really, the fullbacks are talking about it probably more than anybody. It's something that running back group takes a lot of pride in. It's definitely a benchmark that you try to hit on a yearly basis. And just for RB Ryan Grant to accomplish that after becoming the starter after Denver (on Oct. 29, when he replaced the injured RB DeShawn Wynn) I think would be a credit to the run game and to him personally." The Packers have little to play for, though, after last week's 35-7 loss at Chicago locked them into the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs. McCarthy acknowledged Wednesday some starters wouldn't play the entire game this week, and Grant is a logical member of that group. Asked whether the chance to reach 1,000 yards would impact Grant's playing time on Sunday, McCarthy responded, "No, it doesn't, unfortunately."

I have him getting all the carries for the first 2-3 drives with a good chance of a TD capper to one of them against the weak Detroit D. While it's assured that he won't get a lot of work, he will be also be running for one of the most efficient offenses the short time he is in, and I dont expect the Pack to leave Favre back in the pocket too often while he's in.

So, do you think Brandon Jackson gets the majority of the carries this week?
I'm in Wisconsin for the holidays, and the NBC channel here has been running a story on Brandon Jackson getting more carries this week. I think I saw a quote from McCarthy saying something about wanting Jackson to have a positive experience now that the run blocking is better. So it looks like Jackson will get a number of touches. My guess is at least half the game.Matt

Thanks for the reply, Sigmund. I can see the rationale now. I'll still probably opt for a full game of mediocrity from Darius Walker or Musa Smith rather than hope for a quarter and a half of greatness from Grant, but your logic behind Grant seeing a higher percentage of touches while he's in there makes sense. Thanks again. Your projections helped turn my season around from a 3-4 start to an 11-5 birth in the championship game.

I have those three pretty tightly packed in my projections (in fact they are ranked right in a row) - the week 17 "one-off" starters I like a little better include TJ Duckett, Pierre Thomas, and LaBrandon Toefield.
