Ryan Tannehill (1 Viewer)

I agree....get him in there now. I liked what I saw and we are not going to the post season with Garrard or Moore anyway.

I also liked how Roberto Wallace looked last night.....always liked that kid. Mmmmmm maybe this is the year.

BTW Charles Clay is a nice deep sleeper as a H-back/TE in the red zone. Guy can play. Egnew is also an exciting prospect for us.

Start Tannehill. Let him take his lumps on what will be another poor season for Miami regardless of who starts.Like the Colts did with Peyton. Not equating the 2, just endorsing the process.
Don't often agree but I do here. What is the upside of Moore taking the role week 1? Problem is Philbin is on record saying he wants to win right away. I think they want the fans to think they can go at least 8-8, but it would better to just go 2-14 and let Tannehill learn for 16 weeks.

I'm loving everything I'm seeing in Tannehill so far.

I'm surprised there isn't more :tinfoilhat: going on regarding Garrard's sudden decision to get a "routine" cleanup procedure done.

He will have a lot more leash then weeden since expectations are really low. I think he will be fine in a couple years.

Yeah, starting a rookie QB over Garrard worked out great for the Jags last year.
Exactly. Patience is a virtue. The Dolphins coaching staff has job security (at least by NFL standards) right now and should take the best long-term approach with Tannehill.
I think Matt Moore's leadership will mean he's the opening day starter.
:goodposting:Why would you even consider starting Tannehill?
Miami isn't making a run this year. It seems prudent to start Moore week 1 and let Tannehill learn from the sidelines for a while.

‏@AdamSchefterDolphins plan to start rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill vs. Panthers tonight.
ETA: if he plays well tonight, i think he gets the nod next week for the week 3 dress rehearsal and is named the starter for the regular season.

Agreed. Although in my opinion it should be regardless of how he plays tonight. You're a losing franchise living in duckbills for like 15 years now. You drafted this guy in the early first rd to bring you back to prominence. This team does not have the luxury that GB had of sitting arodg behind a legend like brett Favre while the organization was a winning one. They need to win now and try need to use this entire season to see of Tannehill is what they think he is. Besides, keeping him behind Moore and garrard...what's that going to teach him? How to be a mediocre NFL qb? I realize that the experience they have can teach him valuable lessons but they can still teach him that stuff from the sidelines while he is experiencing the speed of the nfl game from day 1, which I think is the best teacher there is.

Good posts both of you. I see Tannehill starting and actually this will energize the fan base and folks like me might actually buy some game tickets this season.

I'm not a pro Tannehill guy by any stretch but they should absolutely start him from game 1 imo. They already know what they have in Moore who while can be a serviceable player doesn't have anywhere near the upside of Tannehill. It will be a struggle this year with the lack of weapons so it's going to be a long year regardless but at least Tannehill gives the franchise some future direction. Lets throw the kid in there and see if he knows how to swim with the sharks. Might as well find out early imo.

The ONLY reason he shouldn't be the starter this season is if he has been completely overwhelmed by the playbook or the speed of defenses. We know he should be comfortable with the playbook si it seems to me that unless he is totally Gabbert about the D, he should be starting right away. Get him some snaps...the team is no better than 7 or 8 wins in a best case scenario with Moore or Garrard. Winning 4- 6 with Tannehill getting valuable reps is a better outcome.

The player who gives the team the best chance of winning should start week 1. Just because the masses think that this is at best a .500 team regardless of who is at QB does not make it so. The goal in week 1 for every team in the NFL is to win the super bowl. Those goals may change by week 4, but you dont start off the season thinking about next year.

Hopefully, Tannehill will give this team the best chance to win in week 1 and beyond. If not, then Moore should start.

He did not look so hot tonight. I didn't see enough of the game to determine whether it was more his fault or the play of the o line and wrs. Anyone see the game?

Looked alright to me. Had some batted balls and forced a couple throws but he's crisp and accurate and looked really poised on 3rd downs. He took some nice licks from Charles Johnson too and it didn't seem to phase him. He didn't really do anything to hurt his chances of starting tonight, IMO... unlike Locker and some of the horrible decision making he displayed tonight.

Long time loyal Dolfan here.

For those that don't follow this team closely understand one thing...Tannehill's supporting cast is absolute GARBAGE. Ireland should be ashamed of the job he's done (or not done depending how you look at it) amassing talent on that side of the ball.

He's literally surrounded by the proverbial seven dwarfs. That WR and TE depth chart is about as bad as it gets.

With that said I couldn't be happier with this kid so far. He's got great measurables. Arm strength is fantastic. Good feet...good awareness....he's suprisingly good for a rookie at identifying the blitz. Overall he gets rid of the ball quickly.

I have no issue with Tannehill. It was a great pick for the franchise....but that supporting cast is horrific.

I'm saying all this because there are going to be moments this season when the casual fan or the person who doesn't see the game picks up the stats and says "wow...Tannehill is struggling" when that won't necessarily be the case.

it will be interesting to see what the team decides on for WR's for him... i think charles clay is going to be their top offensive weapon and that isn't saying much. but what else is there? i'm hoping wallace can continue to make strides, he's got the talent but needs to utilize it. naanee isn't the answer imo...

They really need to sign plax...i dont get why they havent yet. Pisses me off. He could really help a kid like tennehill...big target, aggressive ball skills. great red zone tgt. guy came back from a 2 year layoff in jail to catch 8 touchdowns from mark suck chez last year. Whats not to like? what am I missing? surprised SD also hasnt signed him

The 17th QB to start for the Dolphins is #17.

Like the move - learn and start from Day 1. He moves around well and I'm impressed how he throws on the run.

They aren't going anywhere this year anway - let the kid play.

You mean the 17th to start for Miami since Marino. That's just spooky if you ask me. I wish him the best, though.

Locker and now Tannehill? What a nice day for my 2QB dynasty league.

Nonetheless, i expext Tannehill to have the better career out of those two.

REALLY? Not that I disagree with you, but why? Tennessee has far greater weapons for Locker....

Do you not believe that Miami will pick up a few more weapons on offense before Tannehill retires?
I'd be pretty damn surprised if Miami doesn't go after a top FA this offseason or uses it's 1st rounder on a WR. I can easily see Dwayne Bowe ending up in Miami if he doesn't get franchised again. Philbin was brought in to fix the offense, gotta give him some bullets to do it.
