Is he injured or just suffering from an offensive line missing Hutchinson ?

Yesterday, why didn't he play in the 2nd half ? blowout or injury concerns ?

Anyone lessening their expectations for Alexander after seeing him struggle in the early going ?

He had a sore foot going into the game.

The game was a blow-out.

He has a cake Playoff schedule Arizona/San Francisco.

I'm holding on to him for that purpose. He will be fine and will get his 16 TD's. No need to panic.

Is this that big of a mystery?

He had 410 carries last year including the playoffs, and 2-4 fewer weeks rest than most other starting RB's. He lost his best o-lineman, and probably the best offensive guard in the league. His foot is injured.

And, while they're 3-0, they're still the losing Super Bowl team which historically has "hangover" problems and their wins (two of which were at home) are over teams with a combined 2-7 record.

I'd say there's cause to be concerned.

drafted in the top 3 in all redraft leagues, bust of the year
Could be. But I think all 3 had things to be concerned about going into draft dayLJ - Never played a whole year. Willie Roaf goneSA - Hutch gone. Extra wear and tear last year playing extra gamesLT2 - How's Rivers going to performIt appears that SA has the concerns becoming a reality.I only had one league with a top 3 draft spot and it was 2. I've been kicking myself in the ### since draft day for taking SA over LT2.

The game was a blowout. He didn't need to be out there, especially since he has been nursing a sore foot. In the first game against the Lions, the whole Seattle offense struggled. In game 2, he had 89 yards rushing, and a touchdown. Don't forget Seattle loves to throw the ball.

It's pretty obvious that his hurt foot (or whatever it is) is worse than Seattle is letting on and that it's hurting his play. He doesn't have the same burst he had last year and won't until his foot heals.

Panic. Panic. Panic.

SA has had a history of starting slow outside of last year. link

No one should have expected a year like he had in 2005 anyway but I think he'll still finish with numbers similiar to 2003 with four or five more TDs.

I disagree. It seems to me his production is pretty steady throughout the year historically, and I note that his only 3 and 4 TD games all occurred during the first half of the season. I don't see any evidence of slow starts.

Agreed. And I think that means he'll take some lumps early this year. But in the end...I still think he finishes top 5 if not top 3 in fantasy RB scoring and those that trade him away will deeply regret it.His schedule is in his favor as is the fact that they will likely be in the lead frequently which will lead to more rushing attempts. I don't have a big problem with Holmgren spelling him for Morris/Strong, last year SA had to be worn out. But the Seattle running game always finds it's groove...even without Hutch...they'll find it again. Just a matter of time. I expect after the bye week you'll see better production from SA if not before.

It was a huge blowout (until the 4th quarter obviously)
And yet he didn't have much to do with the blowout.
I think Eli had much to do with the early blowout. SA scored out of the gate and then was used sparringly during the game. Why have your superstar out there when the game is in hand (especially when he has been nicked up)? I would not be worried about SA just yet.

Since when is 20 carries "being used sparingly?" I agree that in a game like this where you're starting to milk the clock immediately in the 2nd half, a RB could have more carries, but 20 carries is not a small amount of work.

Looks like someone didn't get to see the game yesterday. SA has lost more than a step and I for one think it has more to do with the foot injury than the changes in the O-Line. He looked very slow to hit the hole and wasn't even trying to make cuts. I hope they sit him this week and give him a chance to heal. My concern is that if the injury is affecting him that much and they aren't sitting him, they are reserved to the fact that he will be like this all year.I'm trying to trade him if I can get a top RB2 out of him I'll be happy. I'll pick up MoMorris and hope I was right.

20 carries in 3 quarters is being used sparringly?

Sometimes this board cracks me up.

Here are your reasons:

1) Alexander hurt his foot last week and practiced sparingly throughout the week.

2) The Giants are incredibly vunerable to the pass and the Hawks took advantage of that vs. trying to pound the ball early.

3) The game was a blow out and you could see Alexander visibly bothered by the foot on the sidelines early in the game. The coaching staff wanted to rest him and let Mo Morris finish out a game that was clearly in their hands.

Another contributing factor to the poor rushing game thus far has been the poor play of the O-Line. Against Detroit they played about as bad as I've seen the O-Line play in many years under Holmgren.

Bottom line....don't panic. He'll be fine. He'll get his stats. The O-Line is starting to play better. Alexander is a core piece of this offense and the Hawks will continue to give him the ball just like they have in past seasons.

GO HAWKS!!

 O RLY?

In 2004 he had 135, 45, and 52 the first three weeks.

In 2003 he had 108, 51, and 58 in the first three weeks.

In 2002 he 36, 37, and 37 in the first three weeks.

When I say "start" I mean the first three weeks since that is where we are now. If we are talking strictly fantasy he did have 4 TDs in 2004 but those weren't great performances against the likes of the 49ers.

Good luck with that.

Unfortunately, that slow start is going to last through 5 games. Bears game next week then a bye. So we really can't expect anything from SA until week 6?Kind of sucks for a top 3 pick.

I had him ranked #3. I still say he finishes 3rd or better.

the guy is limping all over the place bigger than hell and running gingerly and people are saying it's the line or that he's just washed up now.

it amazes me how few people here actually WATCH the games.

I'm an SA owner and I watched some of the game yesterday. I agree with what someone posted earlier in this thread. SA looked "slow" and tentative at times and didn't have that burst. With that huge lead, I expected him to rack up the rushing yards yesterday and it just didnt happen. Next week doesn't get any easier.

I would be open to trade him but I just think it's a bad time to move him right now if you want equal value.

:goodposting:Absolutely valid. He was limping so noticeably in the first half that I kept expecting to see Holmgren yank him from the game entirely. I was surprised Holmgren kept putting him out there with the score so clearly in Seattle's favor. Maybe the line play isn't up to par either, but clearly Shaun is playing hurt right now.

and now he is not playing hurt.

This is why you listen to people who actually watch the games around here, not just you office jockey number crunchers.
