Saints aren't going to tag Bentley (1 Viewer)

6 million for a center - wow

good luck fighting over that...no matter how talented he is

It'll look like that on paper, but I'll bet it comes out to be more like $4-5M the first few years cap-wise.

Chargers might have an edge in getting Bentley:

Might Saints C LeCharles Bentley end up with the Chargers? There's little doubt the free agent is fond of offensive line coach Jack Henry, who was hired by the Chargers after working last year with Bentley in New Orleans. "Jack was a great coach obviously. Most importantly, was a better person and he was the type of coach that as a player you really wanted to play well for, because obviously the better you played, the better he looked and there was a relationship in that aspect. You never wanted to make him look bad, because he was such a great person and he really wanted you to do well. You always wanted to make him happy and make him proud."

This would seem to suggest. Nevermind the professional satisfaction, if you're a lineman, that comes with blocking for a guy like Tomlinson.

Vikings | Team eyeing Bentley

Tue, 28 Feb 2006 21:28:43 -0800

Judd Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings have their eye on soon-to-be unrestricted free agent OL LeCharles Bentley (Saints). Bentley is considered one of the top linemen available and would give the Vikings valuable versatility. The Vikings, who are expected to have the most salary cap room of any NFL team (about $24 million), likely would use Bentley at right guard but also would have him as an insurance policy should center Matt Birk (hip), have any trouble after missing last season because of surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. One source familiar with the situation said the Vikings are "extremely interested" in Bentley.

I know the Dolphins are also interested. Plus Randy Mueller drafted him in New Orleans, which could work in Miamis favor (should the CBA be resolved).

Eagles | Team set to sign Bentley

Thu, 2 Mar 2006 21:34:11 -0800

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are set to sign free agent C LeCharles Bentley (Saints). Bentley's interest in joining the Eagles is so strong that the only thing preventing the signing from happening Friday, March 3, was the delay in the start of free agency.

As Donnybrook posted...other teams may be interested in Bentley, but it appears it's all over but the names on the dotted line that he'll be in Eagle Green next year :pickle:

Interesting, guys on the radio were saying that he's said he'd play for his hometown Browns for a discount he wanted to be there so badly.

No link, but I've heard reports that we would like to come to Cleveland to be closer to home.

Never mind, found this...

Though Andruzzi and Coleman did a decent job, there is still room to improve. This is why much talk is surfacing about the Browns making a move in free agency to sign a veteran guard. The name of All-Pro center/guard LeCharles Bentley keeps surfacing. Bentley is and unrestricted free agent with the New Orleans Saints and it looks like the marriage is headed for a divorce. Bentley has told friends that he would love to play in Cleveland. Bentley played his college ball at Ohio State and grew up in Ohio. The Browns will not be alone in their quest to sign Bentley though. The Miami Dolphins are said to be very interested in Bentley and would let him play center, his preferred position. More then likely the Browns would require Bentley to move to guard. The possibility does exist that the Browns would sign Bentley, have him play center and looks to move current center Jeff Faine. A draft day trade would not be out of the question and the Browns would acquire valuable draft picks that G.M. Phil Savage so desperately loves. Remember Faine was not a Savage pick, so trading him would hold no sentimental value to him.
Not a bad, if I do say so myself!!!
