**Saints at Vikings** (-2.5, 41) 1:00 (1 Viewer)

I think the Vikings are sneaky good, and while not Cousins, Dobbs can keep them on schedule.

For the Vikings, they spread it out pretty evenly and take what the defense gives them, not really expecting big games from anyone.

For the Saints, I have nothing to base this on beyond a gut feeling, but I think Rashid Shaheed hits a huge play at some point in this game.

I'll say Vikings win 21-17.

I listened to an interview with a Saints reporter who said Carr has been very inconsistent but that he seems to favor Shaheed more than Olave.

Maybe that does not translate in terms of total targets, but it does somewhat explain why Olave hasn't done as well as expected.

This game could turn into a "Fantasy Gold" game of the week.
I always liked Carr,he's so...Carish.
And how can you not pull for Josh Dobbs?
Indoors, perfect conditions,Saints used to that, let's blow out the scoreboard...

Vikings- 41
Saints- 37

KJ Osborn has cleared concussion protocol but it's still not clear if he will play or how much.

Hockenson is dealing with a rib injury but is expected to play.

Although Jefferson practiced he is out for this game.

Christian Darrisaw is back and will play.

Given how well both teams defenses have been playing I am not expecting this much scoring.

Hopeful that the Vikings can find a way to win but this will be a difficult game.

The Saints are 12th in total yards given up. The Vikings are 19th. The Saints are 19th in total plays against. The Vikings are 29th. Both teams are tied with NE at 7th in yards per play given up at 5. The Vikings have faced 35 more plays against than the Saints. The Saints are tied for 1st with the Jaguars is turnovers forced at 18. The Vikings are 18th with 12. The Saints are 9th in 1st downs allowed the Vikings are 21st. The Saints are 8th in passing yards allowed the Vikings are 24th. The Vikings are 14th in rushing yards allowed the Saints are 20th.

The Saints defense has the advantage here in most of these categories. The main difference here is that the Saints are +8 in turnovers while the Vikings are -5

Something that stood out to me in the interview I listened to was that I guess Carr threw a uncatchable pass deep somewhere near Olave that looked like Carr was just throwing the ball away, but then after the play Carr was yelling at Olave for not making the play on that throw. That Carrs criticism and attitude about this was unwarranted because it wasn't even close to Olave. I guess the comments were picked up by some Jaguaurs player who was mic'd up so it was in that game.

Anyhow there seems to be some sort of rift between Carr and Olave based on this example. Maybe Saints fans could add more to that observation.

I have not heard what Carr yelled that the Jags' players microphones picked up. Given that:

My understanding is that Carr was yelling at Olave for not selling his route and failing to clear out a defender so that another, shorter route (I think Taysom Hill) would be open. Then Carr threw the ball out of bounds intentionally out of frustration.

In any case, so far as we fans know, it's all water under the bridge now. It's not a lingering thing between Carr and Olave.

Olive did catch a TD last week, but Hill threw it.

I wonder who that Saints reporter was? He was apparently mailing in the interview. Carr undoubtedly loves him some Shaheed, but ... well, just check both players' game logs in recent games:

I would have to look it up. Someone Arif Hasan found to interview for his podcast.

I was near dreamland at the time I was listening to it as well. So maybe I didnt get everything straight.

The comments came before a follow up question by Arif asking the guy to say what Carr has been good at, as he was saying the Saints are not entirely sure about Carr and his future as their starting QB. That his play has been uneven and that he hasn't had a good connection with Olave. So it was mostly negative on Carr, which then caused Arif to ask what Carr was good at, and the guy said he had a good connection with Shaheed and Kamara.

eta - John Sigler of the Saints Wire on USA Today

Looking at the targets there is no doubt Carr has been throwing to Olave more than Shaheed.

That said Olaves catch rate is lower so far this season than it was last season, and that is something people, myself included thought might improve in Olaves 2nd season but hasn't.

Meanwhile Shaheeds catch rate and yards per target are higher than Olaves, although this is with fewer targets of course. But that does show a more efficient connection.

eta - possible Arif did this interview a week in advance before publishing it. As Sigler was still talking about the Jaguars and Colts games and I dont think he talked about the Bears game that I noticed.

I found the podcast on the Norse Code Youtube channel. Given the timing of the interview, what Sigler was saying made some sense at the time. When you first posted about Sigler's remarks, I thought it was one of those gameday-morning interviews that they do during lead-up radio coverage.

This is about the least exciting game between 2 teams with winning records I can think of
What?

Although not in the same division these 2 teams do have a bit of a rivalry going.
I like Dobbs but all the skill guys are hurt and NO is pretty boring imo
That fair. The Saints definitely have the advantage health wise here.

Better defense by most measures as well.

Will be a hard game for the Vikings.

My wife works with mentally disabled adults and is attending this game with a few of their clients. She's a saint. In the meantime, I'm sitting around my home, drinking a beer at noon, and looking forward to smoking up the whole house by pan-searing a steak later on.

Vikings draw first blood after settling for a field goal. A pretty decent drive they put together messed up by a holding penalty on Powell.

Michael Thomas went into the injury tent.

I’m in the car right now — does it look like a concussion check? Or something else?

Dynasty watch — AT Perry just got his first NFL reception.

Also, the Saints waived opening-day #4 WR Keith Kirkwood this past week.

Very evenly matched game right now. Dobbs looks good. So does Carr. Defenses are playing decently.

Vikes have a QB that can run - it’s been a long time since I’ve seen that.

Is it possible that Dobbs is the starter in Minnesota next year?
Possible yes. He needs to play like this for 4-5 games IMO.

I think when Cousins went down the plan was to see what they had in Hall and likely resign Cousins and draft a QB. But now?

buddy says Mickey gave Carr a 4 year deal

he's just yanking my chain, right?

related: can anyone confirm Chris Olave made the fligth and is in the building?
