Saints Homers - Any good news out of NO on Robert Meachem (1 Viewer)

I have pretty much given up on him having any value this season, but what about next year. It seems like he is a long ways off from cracking the starting lineup, let alone being on the active roster. Are NO homers hearing anything encouraging about Meachem from the local media?

If you have traded him or for him recently, what did you get/give?

He's not gonna start pending injury of other WRs. The coach was quoted on local radio show that he has improved over the last 3 weeks, but that everyone in front of him is playing better. Lance Moore has his spot and he's catching and returning well. No need for Meachem to start this year. Maybe get things better next year, but to me MOI is that he spot plays and gets traded much like Stalworth.

hmmm, thats not very encouraging. Is he worth holding in smaller dynasty leagues? I am considering dropping him.

I always find it funny when owners lose patience with young wr's so fast. Any owner should be prepared to get absolutely nothing out of a WR for the first three years, if you do get something out of them before then...it's gravy.

Sounds a lot like what happened with Devery Henderson in the same situation. Henderson isn't exactly fantasy gold, but I drafted him and held for two seasons with basically no return, then got something out of him this offseason and dealt him.

I could see Meachem with similar results, and you have to figure long-term the Saints like the idea of he and Colston as the starters. But yea, gotta echo previous posts and preach patience with rookie WRs. Not everyone is going to be Dwayne Bowe. You want long-term value on these guys, so I'd be buying Meachem's stock this offseason.

I took the news out of NO much more positively. Basically, he was hurt more than we thought and that set him back. Next year several of the guys in front of him are likely to be gone; there was a good post on here a few weeks ago by a NO homer with that sort of information. Plus, Henderson and Moore are not playing that well. I expect him to take over next year when he is fully healthy for training camp and knows the offense better. I have him and I am definitely holding.

Good post. Meachem has plenty of value going forward. I don't expect the Saints to re-sign Henderson. Moore, despite great hands and hustle, isn't a #2 WR. Patten signed a 1-year contract, so he could come back but that's provided that a deal could be made. Meachem's injury kept him out of the the offseason camps. He was learning the offense during the preseason games. He's going to be better next year. Finally, the Saints got him in the 1st round and compensated him accordingly. He's not going anywhere and the front office would be foolish not to cultivate him for the long term.

I don't think anything will be handed to him, but I expect him to at least compete for the #2 WR spot next year. I would buy low, and if I had him, I'd hold until at least the start of next season.

Yeah, I want to keep him, its just a pretty small dynasty league, we keep 15 of our 22 and that includes IDP. I don't recall to many first round WR's not even making the active roster once in the first 10 weeks of the season. Hopefully the last few games of the year he gets some PT so we can atleast catch a glimps of what he may become.

i wouldn't count on it. they are desperately trying to stay in the playoff hunt. they really think that stealing the division crown is possible. that means that you have to minimize risk and meachem is only going to be trotted out if injuries ravage the WR corps.
