RB D. McAllister At 85%

Adam Schefter, NFL.com

New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister is 85% healthy. He is expected to be ready for training camp but the Saints will monitor him closely.

Saints Deep At RB

Adam Schefter, NFL.com

The New Orleans Saints boast a very deep RB corp. RB Deuce McAllister and RB Reggie Bush headline the group but RB Aaron Stecker and RB Michael Bennett provide good talent off the bench. The Saints would be willing to move Bennett for the right price but are content to hang onto him as well.

RB R. Bush Will Be Everywhere

Adam Schefter, NFL.com

New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush has been lining up all over the field during OTAs. That will continue during training camp and will include kick return duties.

'Get used to it. I've been stressing this all offseason, but I'll say it once more: you really shouldn't think of Reggie Bush as a backup. He will get extensive playing time.

Even if Deuce makes a full recovery, Bush will be used in two back sets, split out wide, and lined up in the slot. I expect a top 15-20 weekly average in PPR leagues. In non-PPR leagues, he seems a little overrated, because his primary value will probably lie in yardage and catches (not TDs).

Nevertheless, Bush is a beast. He's easily the top skill player in this rookie class.

Yawn. Big news for those either expecting a headline of "Former 2000 yard back to play only sparingly" or "#2 overall pick expected to be situational player"Yeah, they'll both see the field a lot. Roger that.

Not all coaches would be able to work Bush in. Sean Payton is actually the PERFECT coach for them. His only knock is he gets too "cute". Which is probably what this situation needs. Bush will be playing every WR position, will be in the backfield, might see Deuce at FB, might see Bush at HB. A coach like Marty, doesn't, and wouldn't do that. They use LT very conservatively. You look at how much Westbrook splits out.

So anyway, I think there is some valid news in this. It just shows Payton is going to get the ball in Bushs hands, and try to focus on creating matchup problems. Which helps Deuce run, helps Bush get touches, and overall with Horn and Stallworth should vault them into a top 10-12 offense.

:jawdrop:  And in other news, the sun came up this morning... :sarcasm:

I would prefer to see Bush NOT returning kickoffs (future dynasty owner).
Ditto! I don't want the future of my Floppy Pink Bats franchise to be getting whaled on during kicks. Why'd they let Michael Lewis go? That dude's face even looked fast.

I agree... he has great value as an RB3/Flex, but not as a dominant back. Oh he'll put up solid numbers alright, but they aren't paying Deuce $50M to ride the pine.I can't believe Bush's ADP is 4 with Deuce at 6..... Deuce will be the one going for 1500/10, it's Bush that's the 1000/7 (those are combined yardages)

I thought I read something earlier that said Bush wasn't going to be returning kicks in order to protect him.

They also would not pay Deuce $50m if they knew he was going to blow out his ACL and than be able to draft Reggie Bush. Situations change.

Were they paying Ricky Williams oodles of money to ride the pine when Deuce showed up and showed him the door?

I think it's very likely that Bush will have more receptions and receiving yards. I don't even expect it to be very close. It's important to remember that Deuce is less than a year removed from a fairly serious injury. There's no guarantee that he'll be the player he was in 2002 and 2003.

last i heard, he was re-signed to a multi year extension prior to the draft.

I thnk MLBrandow is saying Bush is going in the 4th round and Duece in the 6th rd.I totally disagree that Duece will be the guy though. He is coming off a very serious injury and even if both were healthy, I'd feel comfortable saying Bush is a better talent (all around) for Payton's offense. Payton isn't going to want to run up the middle, off tackle and the again up the gut. He is going to get alittle creative and Bush allows him to do that. I don't think Duece will get 1,000 yards but I do think he could get 7-10 td's.

I don't follow the Saints nearly as close as I do many other NFL teams.Could you or someone else elaborate a bit on what exactly Deuce's injury was and what the recovery time is? Isn't it the same injury Edge suffered?

Also, would you mind expanding a bit on Payton's offense and how you see Bush as a better fit?

I'm with you on Bush blowing McAllister out of the water in receptions, but I very very highly doubt he even gets 60% of Deuce's numbers.

No, they weren't. Master P was Ricky's agent. Enough said.

Deuce suffered a torn ACL (same as Edge in the past, and Braylon Edwards, Javon Walker, and Carson Palmer all suffered last year...it was also one of the ligaments Mcgahee tore in his injury against Ohio State in college), which is pretty much the most widely known and most common serious injury in football (if not in sports in general). For a RB, the general feeling is that it takes nearly a full two years for the RB to get close to pre-injury form. Having known several guys that tore their ACLs, it doesn't keep you off your feet for all that long (and actually without surgery you could walk/run in a straight line on it just fine), but it severely hampers if not destroys your side-to-side mobility and cutting ability.

Payton has s aid he wants to run more of a west coast offense. He wants to run alot of quick slants and rb screens. Basically he wants to open up the offense and make it a faster game on the offense of side. Bush is made for this and I just don't think a rb of Duece's makeup will be able to go until very late in the season. I think Bush will have more rushing and recieving than Duece, I do however think Duece will take away alot of goal line carries still. I could see him finishing the season with 7 to 10 td's.

Yeah, but Ricky's the kind of guy to buy into that whole incentive laden thing. There's isn't an agent dumb enough to at least try and talk you out of it. Ricky's obviously walks to a beat of different drummer. The guy doing the negotiating had an MBA from Wharton.
