WR Mason Tipton, NO (1 Viewer)

@32BeatWriters
“The biggest surprise of training camp has to be UDFA wide receiver Mason Tipton. He’s been gaining hype from multiple sources for his routes, hands, and big play ability.”

Kent Lee Platte
Mason Tipton is a WR prospect in the 2024 draft class. He scored a 8.03 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 670 out of 3402 WR from 1987 to 2024. ras.football/ras-informatio…

any guess why he went undrafted?

Good question - 28 teams saw him run 4.32 in person at his Pro Day (tbf, most of those teams were there to look at the OT the Bears took in the 3rd.)

His draft profile says the tape doesn’t match the measurables. Smallish player, fast straight line, not particularly elusive. Throw in level of competition Yale faces, easy to see why he’d be a UDFA.

Feels like the Saints already have this flavor in Shaheed so he’s probably headed for a practice squad, but we’ll see how it plays out.

Mason Tipton caught 6-of-7 targets for 48 yards in the Saints’ Week 7 loss to the Broncos.

A 24-year-old UDFA out of Yale, Tipton outshined fellow rookie DFS long shot Bub Means, who turned his five targets into a scoreless 3/37. Tipton has been involved in an on-and-off fashion since the opener, but entered this evening with just six total catches all year. With Rashid Shaheed out for the season and Chris Olave dealing with his fourth documented concussion, the 5-foot-11 Tipton could be needed for a lot more work. That’s bad for the Saints, but perhaps a lifeline for deep-league PPR managers desperate for help.

No Olave. No Wilson. No Shaheed. Saints literally would lineup up some of us if we would get uniform on. Atlanta is a good matchup for wrs. Play zone 80% of the time. Game script should result in Carr throwing 30 plus times. At home. This guy has to get 8 plus targets. Feels weird but with byes and injuries, for one week, he might be sneaky decent play in ppr leagues. What a weird world.

Wont they just throw it to Kamara more?

Imagine your the defensive coordinator going against this team with so many players out. Aren't you simply spending the entire week practicing how to stop passes to Kamara? Someone has to get targets outside of Kamara. Right? Carr is about to throw it 30 plus times. This is all my opinion of course and if he gets 2 catches for 17 yards I reserve the right to never enter this thread again. Football is always gonna football.

Tipton is type of player I like to scoop up in dynasty - small school player who earned raves in camp.

I think they go two TE with Kamara in the backfield and maybe Hill at QB more often.

"Smash mouth" or "break the leather helmets out" are fun phrases for this style.

New coach letting everyone "do their thing" is an odd flavor here this week; even more odd with the WR injuries.

Best players on the field.

I think they did this to a degree earlier in the year when I was hoping on Tipton one week.

Defensively, this is what I'd be ready for
