Duece's contract as follows.

2001 209,000

2002 320,000

2003 400,000

2004 470,000

2005 600,000

2006 1,450,000

2007 2,600,000

2008 3,600,000

2009 5,200,000

2010 6,200,000

2011 7,100,000

2012 8,100,000

When Bush does sign it will be a hefty contract, that obviously pays him more as the years increase. With the Saints having multiple pressing needs at multiple positions can they co-exist strictly based on $$ over the next few years? Does anyone see Duece being traded for 2nd / 3rd round pick to Jax, Giants (after Tiki), Jets, or Green Bay. This is also assuming that he recovers from the knee injury, and is is ahead of schedule.

Any insight on the matter.....???? :wall:

I cannot see him being dealt this year for multiple reasons.1. he is coming off a major injury

2. Bush is unproven (and unsigned)

3. the contract is cap friendly

By 08, he will be gone if Bush is as good as advertised

Maybe but I do not see the Saints doing anything very soon because Bush may not be able to stay healthy for an entire year. In 2007 with the contract being this high I think either Deuce renegotiates his contract or the Saints will be in a very tight spot; therefore you might see the Saints do Deuce the same was the Titans did McNair. Remember the Saints have stuck with Deuce through all his injuries and might feel that he owes them. Deuce though is getting old and has only had one really good year - that was 4 years ago (2002 he scored 16 TDs ) other than that he has never scored more than 9 and has injuries issues himself.

How can you consider 2157 total yards (2003) not a good year?

The 8 TDs in 2003 helped. That was 7th ranked RB that year and 21st in FBG scoring.A good year but not the stud he was drafted at that year.

Ok, but isn't this thread about whether or not the Saints will trade him? I doubt they will base it on FF scoring.

You are right. 2003 was a very very solid year NFL wise.

When teams wouldn't give a 2nd round pick for SA/Edge, it's fairly clear a 28 year old RB isn't going to get much on the market.

The Saints would be very happy keep Deuce around to limit Bushs carries, use him for goal line short yardage. And let them move Bush around the field ala Westbrook. You don't think the Eagles would take Deuce/Westbrook in the backfield if they could?

The Saints probably don't want to see if Bush can carry it 350 times in a season. They can build an offense around both, so I see them keeping Deuce this year, and next. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Deuce get 10-12 tds if healthy, and Bush 3-5. If Bush helps move that offense, it really means Deuce is going to get a lot of easy TDs.

If he is

1.  Healty

2.  Traded

Regains first round value.
LIke Travis Henry found out, get trading does not ensure you play very often. Deuce could be a first round pick again on another team provided that they want to use him as a workhorse starting back. Back in the day, Deuce got 90% of the RB workload in N.O. but id another team wants him to split time or be a backup, then who knows what his value might be. Deuce could also be cut at some point, and then his salary would be whatever someone wants to pay him.

Please let this be the LAST time we read "teams wouldn't give a 2nd round pick for Edge or Alexander" . They would in a heartbeat if the contracts that came with those players weren't what they were.

:goodposting: I had this argument in a previous thread.

There is no team, without LT, LJ or maybe Portis, in their right mind wouldn't have given up a 2nd round pick for Edge or SA if they were under a reasonable contract and weren't going to be UFA's the next year. Why trade a 2nd round pick when you might not keep them for more than 1 year?
