Same Old Chargers (1 Viewer)

Two quick points...

The game they got should have been the game you expected. The Jets are a run-first, play-good-defense team this year. They hoped to keep it close and squeak out a win with a little luck. The missed FGs did it for them. The Bolts did enough to win versus a #1 defense. The biggest problem is your expectations.

Next year the Chargers are my choice! Best schedule in the NFL!

There is 1 common denominator for the Chargers frustrations over the last few years: A.J. Smith. He's changed players and coaches but the result is the same. Time to realize where the real problem is and realize as long as he's the man nothing will change. The Chargers hopes for a AFC championship or Super Bowl sailed a long time ago with Brees and Marty. It is what it is.
Care to tell us about how successful this franchise was before AJ took the helm?

They haven't improved on winning championships. Considering their great players and teams the expectations have been much higher than their achievements.

Let me guess, let's fire the coach that 4 hours ago people thought could be Coach of the Year. The same guy responsible for helping the team to 10 straight wins.Fire him and just revamp, that's the answer to everything.
:goodposting: where were these clowns that are saying 'same old Chargers' when the Chargers were world-beaters in the regular season, winning 2nd best record in AFC and a bye, following a rocky start to the 2009 season??
Ummm. The same old Chargers that start slow; win a bunch of games (ie. become world beaters) and get their fan's hopes sky high before choking it away in a game against a probably inferior opponent due to stupid and unnecessary penalties. All the while mouthing off and looking the fool (Even after Greene's long TD run the defender felt it necessary to bump him 5 yards deep in the end zone). Yeah. Those Chargers. You know the song: "San Diego - Stupid Chargers".ETA: And I like the Chargers. But, man, sometimes they act like thugs.

There's no such thing as clutch kicking; Kaeding was just as likely to make his next kick. (In fact, when Doug Brien eliminated the Chargers, he'd missed his previous kick).
I find this an odd statement. I have to believe that different people will react to pressure situations in different ways. And I have to believe that some failure will put doubts into a kicker's head. This isn't just a coin flip.

I heard today that a bunch of them were talking #### to the Jets during the pre-game warmups, telling them they didn't belong there and whatnot. Anyone know any more about this? And I have heard of them doing that crap before. They sure do talk an awful lot on the field for a team that has never won anything and has consistently underachieved given their talent level.

Nov didn't miss 3 FGs

Nov didn't commit a dozen false starts

Nov didn't kick a replay flag

Nov didn't drop passes that could of been 1st downs

Not Nov's fault

Lack of focus and discipline can definitely be blamed on the coaching staff. A well-coached and well-prepared team does not commit that many mental errors and stupid personal foul penalties.

Considering how punkish some of them act, I wouldn't be shocked to find out this was true. However, I have a feeling that there are players on every team in the league that talk crap before, during and after pretty much every game, regardless of expectations, accomplishment, or win/loss records.

That schedule won't help them in the playoffs.

It seemed to me the SD offensive intensity went up markedly toward the end - when time and their hopes were running out. That had just been missing all game (when they needed it against a very tough defense) - and to me that falls on coaching (along with over-confident players). The attitude wasn't there to dig in and do what was needed to win. It was more like they expected a walk through and didn't take the Jets seriously as opponents. That's on the coaches to me. A dozen false starts, kicking a replay flag, even dropped passes come from an attitude problem - and coaches have no more important role than getting their guys into the game as if their lives depended on it. I won't blame Norv for the missed field goals, or for Gates' drop (which I thought actually came from trying too hard, turning up field before he had it secure because he felt that with no rushing game and Jackson blanketed, the passing game and offense fell to him. Despite the drop, the one skill player I got no sense of lacking effort from was Gates). I sure don't think you fire Turner at this point, but ever getting further means somehow instilling more understanding of the intensity it takes to win and reducing the arrogance.
