Sammy Sosa hits No. 600 (1 Viewer)

They played The Natural music in the background as he was rounding the bases.

:goodposting:
Actually they've been doing that all series. Kinsler got the Natural treatment too. Too bad all these Naturals can't win games. (And yes, it is sour grapes because they're beating the Cubs ### tonight. lol.)

Still not a HoFer, as he is as much of a cheater as McGwire or Bonds, and he was actually caught cheating before.
Steve Phillips brought up a valid point on Baseball Toinght."Why would a player on steroids cork his bat?"

Eventually he will get in. He was caught corking his bat. Big deal. There are a lot of "cheaters" in the HOF.

I believe the sportswriters will ride their High Horses and "make him pay" like they did to McGwire, He may not get in for the first few years, but he will eventually be there.

I don't see that as being a valid point. Someone who cheats, will likely do whatever they can get away with it, so it is not like he or any other cheater would just stop at taking 'roids. Besides, Sosa accidently used a corked bat, remember? :P

This is very possible.

I was surprised he did not immediately announce his retirement when he touched home plate....I think we all know he only came back to get to 600.

He is a disgrace to the game and him and that scmuck Bonds have no right to be in the same company as Ruth, Aaron and Mays. Two no good cheaters.

Here is the first paragraph on the Rangers home page:

“Sammy Sosa joined exclusive company on Wednesday night, placing himself among the Mount Rushmore of power hitters when he hit the 600th home run of his distinguished career”.

Mount Rushmore of power hitters? Pffffttttttt.... this guy is a roid Ranger and he used a corked bat PLUS he hit in that pee-wee ball park Wrigley Field. What really sums this up is the fact that he plays for one of the most pathetic organizations in the history of MLB and he hit his "historic" homer off of the lamest organization in the history of MLB. Truly laughable!

OK Sammy clearly used steroids in the past. No other way to explain an above averge OFer all of a sudden hitting 60 or more HRs 3 times in a short time span. That being said, he has never been linked to ANY steroid story or user like McGwire, Giambi, or Bonds have. So Im not sure if the HOF committee has any right to not vote him in to the HOF on his first ballot.

I was there last night to see this. Sheer coincidence. The actual shot looked like it might not make it for awhile as the wind was in all night from that side. So he didn't really give it the full arm wave sendoff.

Two curtain calls and by the next at bat people were on him again about steroids and all that.

Crowd was 70% cubs fans.

I was somewhat surprised that no cubs came over to shake his hand or anything. It was only 3 or 4 years ago that he was on that team. Somebody had to have played with him.

Hell he got more love from the umpire than his former team, but a couple of dudes did get out of the dugout to clap for him for one of his curtain calls.

The natural has been played for every homerun for what must be 10 years. This wasn't anything special and they did it again for the very next pitch when that spare catalnatto went yard.

Corked Bat.He will most certainly get in...just not on the first ballot.

Right or not, the majority of sportwriters/voters are self-righteous pompous asses who act like their opinion is all that matters, so they will likely enjoy sticking it to Sosa in his first year of eligibility, just as they did to McGwire. My feeling on all of these suspected steroid users is, you cannot let some of them in and keep some of them out. If you are going to keep McGwire out for that reason, then the same should be done to Sosa, Bonds, etc. But good luck convincing the voters to be consistent in their thinking.

A lot of baseball players have done steroids. Not a lot of them hit 600 Home Runs.
But a lot of the players who probably took steroids were not great players before they took steroids. Sosa, on the other hand, was already a great player before he took steroids (assuming he started taking them around the time his HR totals magically sky-rocketed). Steroids just enabled him to put up astronomical numbers, resulting in him now reaching the 600 mark.
I heard his postgame interview and the progress on his english that he has made since the Congressional hearing is amazing.
I said back then that Sosa hiding behind a translator was just as bad as McGwire taking the 5th, but not many agreed, as McGwire took the brunt of the pounding from the media.
