Samsung Galaxy S3 Discussion Thread (1 Viewer)

Still debating back and forth between the 5 and S3 myself.

Leaning iPhone 5 after reading about the screens being dimmer. I do use my phone outside a long time. The other issue is I used my phone like an mp3 player and run with it in my hand pretty often - this seems a little big for that.

Lastly, I have 2 iPhone docks, and a brand new iPad. Would definitely lose a lot of the compatibility with the extra hardware of purchased over the years.

Seems like an easy decision, you almost HAVE to go iPhone here.

doesn't the 5 have a different connector than previous versions?

I actually went with the Galaxy S3 in spite of all I posted above.

I use the iPad to watch movies, crossword puzzles, read books and general web browsing from the couch (watch ESPN app is nice too).

With the free drop box storage and the Google Music program, I like being able to access my full library from anywhere without going through iTunes.

Been an iPhone owner since the very first one came out and I needed a change.

I like that the S3 doesn't feel as "boxed in" - I've already got it customized to my liking and don't have to deal with the very limited configurations that apple provides.

Will give this a try for a while.

I was looking at the HTC OneX but the guy cut me a deal and gave me a free microcell if I went for the more expensive Samsung s3. The microcells go for 200 bucks but I needed one badly living in a sub-tereanean apartment. It works like a charm now.

BAM dmux is for mobile data so anything that keeps mobile data connection open it will show up. Stands for broadband access multiplier demultiplier. It's normal. Just means something is keeping data connection alive. I did more research.
Do you have any app that could possibly be trying to sync/connect (Sports scores, email, etc)?
Yeah I saw that post on XDA, haven't been able to find anything. Used GSAM Battery App as well as BetterBatteryStats to try and track down a rogue app, but they both just report various combinations of "Android OS", "Android System", and "Cell Standby" hogging all my battery. From reading around, lots of people have said they still get the problem even after doing a factory reset or rooting and putting a custom ROM on there. I'm so confused because that makes it sound like a hardware issue (bad battery), but there is clearly some kind of software issue since the battery stats are reporting processes running that shouldn't be.I ordered the 4200mah hyperion extended battery that had great reviews and it came in today. So far it's burned off 8% in just over 2 hours with 1 hour and 47 minutes of that being standby time. From what I've read about this battery that shouldn't have even knocked off 1% yet.I wonder if it could somehow be a hardware issue outside of the battery? Seems like a long-shot but I'm still within my 14 days so I think I can get a replacement straight from the AT&T store.

I've found Samsung's latest round of timely commercials to be pretty damn funny.
I thought it ran a little long, but other than that, it was good.
We've had a couple different ones. The one with them all standing in line, holding spots in line for the parents etc was long. They have a shortened version of that same commercial with the guy going on about the jack being on the BOTTOM that got me going. It ends with the guy at the end saying "we'll get that right? maybe not this time, but soon"

Samsung needs to incorporate this into their commercials somehow. :lmao:IOS 6 Maps: An explanationhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDnFNUqf3hg

I'm still having hard-core battery issues, but damn I just have to comment on how much I love this phone when it's running.

I was an iOS user for almost 3 years and I can't imagine going back. The iphone has its place, and I do believe it's a great phone for people that want a device that's a phone first and can do some extra stuff easily and intuitively. However, for a geeky/power user like me there's just no comparison. I actually get annoyed sometimes when I'm waiting in line somewhere and I get to the front of the line because I just want to keep fiddling around with my phone.

Two different people I know have come up to me to show off their iPhone 5 and handed it to me to check out. Both times I gave it back to them within about 5 seconds and when they asked "don't you want to play around with it?" I had to think of a nice way to say "there is literally nothing that I want to see on this phone."

Went with S3 over new iPhone even after being a long time iPhone guy.

Dig it. Need to learn all the tips and tricks now. I keep trying to swipe the screen.

Trying oot the dolphin browser since it seems to be getting good reviews here. How do I import bookmarks from other devices? Thought i did and signed into my google account but still nothing
I couldn't get them to sync by signing in through my Google account either, but I finally signed in through Facebook instead (kind of by accident) and the syncing actually worked. (I had to sign in on each device through Facebook, of course.) I still can't get gestures to sync, but bookmarks worked, so that's something.
2x check that all the notifications that you want are active under synchronization. Sometimes the bookmark synching gets turned off by a power saving app.

Since this is pretty much the new android device thread...

It sounds like the rumored 5in HTC quadcore device that was supposed to get announced at the HTC event last week may actually be a 5in Nexus "phablet." They say details could be released soon, but right now it's just a rumor.

5 inch may be the sweet spot for those not wanting a phone as large as the Note 2. The 4.8 GS3 is doing very well, so why not push the limits with a few more inches. :jawdrop: I think the Note just may be too big to comfortably carry in pockets.

The other perk with it being a Nexus is you don't get most of those crap aps pre-loaded. My wife has a Razr & 3/4 of her aps pre-loaded crap from Verizon / Motorolla.

Yeah teh 5.5 is just a touch too big. It looks nice and when you hold it, it's not bad but carrying around is a tad of a pain

Weird deal. I am still using my iPhone 4s as a more or less iPod. When I send a text message from my S3 to a user w an iPhone I get a reply text on my iPhone 4s via an iMessage and never receive it on my 4s. Wtf

You gotta turn off iMessages in the settings on your old iPhone.

Does anyone have recommendations on the best GPS app for Android? For turn by turn directions while traveling.

Anyone have the Razor Maxx?I saw that it beat almost every smart phone out there in battery life.
I don't have it but my friend does and the battery life is very good. However it doesn't have an hd/retina screen yet which is a deal breaker for me. There is one with an hd screen coming out soon though.

Switched from my evo to this phone on Thursday. Wow....it's amazing.
Are you me? I switched from my evo to the S3 last Thursday.Love it. It has it's quirks to get used to but it is miles ahead of where my evo was. Was really tempted to make the switch to the iphone but I just didn't want to give up the customability.

For some reason since I did the most recent update...

everytime I get an email from my exchange server or send an email on it, I get a small pop up that says "Connection Error (My Name)"

Yet the email still comes in and everything else seems to be working.

Minor annoyance, any ideas?

Thinking of getting one of these on Verizon. Do they still lock the bootloader? Not that I am gonna ROM the hell outta this, but CyanMod is pretty sweet.

Pretty easy to root it from what I've read. I'm tempted to do it myself just to check out the fuss about jellybean.

I went out and bought the GS3. This thing is HUGE! It's gonna take weeks until I know how to use the stock ROM alone. Great device. Really happy with it.
