is there a consensus on the best way to handle group texts?
Would like to know as well
I do not know of a way to prevent this as I think it's just an iphone thing. Here are a few solutions,-reply back with something offensive-reply back after every text with something stupid like "lol" or "haha" and continue to do this all night. Remember you're not the only one getting annoyed-show your friends how much cooler your Sammy is than the iphone and hope most of them eventually ditch those juvenile devices

Battery on my Note 2 is ridiculous. Granted, I'm a light user (which is why I switched to Ting in the first place) but I'm charging this thing on, say, Sunday night, waking up Monday AM and getting 2 business days on a charge. I take it off Monday at 6:45 AM and don't put it back on until Tuesday at about 11 PM. Even then, it usually still has anywhere from 10-20% left.

How old are you?

Just got home last night from a business trip and the wife also complained about her S3 suddenly having a bad battery drain issue. Anyone solve this? I told her to take it to the local AT&T store to see if they had any insight.

I must of struck a chord with the iphone comment. Sorry.

I can get out of my current Sprint contract for ~200 bucks and sign up for a new Sprint contract and get the Galaxy S III for a penny. Currently have a Motorola Photon that's seen better days.Worth making the switch?
You need to go to the Ting/Solavei thread imo. Signing up for another 2 years of Sprint is a big mistake.

This was an old post. I bought a used S3 and will use it to ride out my current contract.

Oh okay. Well PM me whenever your contract ends. I've built a spreadsheet with every MVNO and carrier plan in it and can find whatever fits you best pretty easily.

Now that I am only using Google Voice and nobody has my actual Verizon number I do not recall getting group text. I'm not 100% sure if it blocks them or what, but I think that may be the solution.

Found a used note 2 but all the seller will say is that it's a factory unlocked phone international version.....how can I find out if this will work on verizon? I usually just upgrade but I have unlimited data on my verizon acct and I don't want to lose it

iPhone 4 user here interesting in seeing what the Galaxy 4 is up to.

What would I lose, as far as infrastructure, if I move to the Galaxy 4? I believe I lose my apps (meaning I cannot redownload them onto the Galaxy without paying for them again).

I will have to redo a contract since my iPhone 4's contract just ended. Can get it unlocked and sell it though. If Apple would just bring out their bigger phone now, I would not be looking to the Galaxy right now.

The Galaxy S4 should be getting launched in just over an hour. I believe live streaming will be here.

Oops...it is happening at 7PM EDT. That would be 4 on the west coast which is what screwed me up.

What sort of discounts could we see on the S3 once the S4 is available? Assuming a 2 year contract with the big providers (think they run about $200 now).

Still happy with the S3, with ROMs. What I'm not happy with is Android not having the apps iOS has, like Studio Six Digital stuff, or even PropellerHead. Android needs better coding for Pro Audio.

Smooth as butta. :hifive:
I've noticed the battery life is even more horrible with this new update if that is even possible.
???Battery life has been just fine on mine ever since getting the phone in November.
I charge it fully every night while I'm sleeping. Yesterday, I was in single digits on the battery by the time I got home around 630p. Usually I'm in the 30s or so. With minimal use during lunch today I'm at 66. So, maybe yesterday was an anomaly.
Odd...mine was at about 85% when I went to bed last night (had charged it earlier that day.Ive used it quite a bit today and am still at 49%.
Mine is definitely not as good since the Jelly Bean update. I'm about to buy a new battery and see if that helps.
Root, unlock, and flash a ROM. You can use kernels that govern the CPU. Best thing, probably the only real good thing about Android is the Devs. It makes your phone yours, like you would a computer.

Smart pause looks pretty slick. Not sure about the hover... it seems in the 2 seconds you need to cover you could have opened the pic then closed it back again if you didn't want that one. Dunno though. Will have to check other functionality. Should be a solid launch for Samsung. Good timing as right now Apple is losing favor with their last few OS releases... infinitely more buggy than 5.x stuff... I'm getting more and more hangs and app crashes that I never used to get before.

Any thoughts on the Galaxy 4 versus the Nexus 4 / upcoming 5? I know the Nexus gets Android updates earlier but is that a significant upgrade over the Galaxy line?

Looking at the specs, is the octo-core gonna be available in the US? While it's nice to see them push the envelope spec wise, it doesn't mean squat if we can't get a quad-core S3 stateside.

Basically, if I upgrade, I get 4 cores, better optics, with a larger screen and resolution. The other stuff is cool, but not enough to not wonder what the next Note increment will be as my next upgrade.

I'm sold on Sammy for the Android devices. But mostly because of the SD card slot. If the Nexus devices had them, they would get my attention.

From the look of Engadget's live blog - seemed like a whole lot of fluff in the presentation coupled with some underwhelming updates. Engadget's early review here.
Google Now about to be released for iPhone as well.
That is the feature I am most excited about. Up for an upgrade in about a week. Might go with the Note 2 due to the late April launch and lack of anything game changing worth waiting for on the S4. Way I see it any change from the good old Blackberry Bold will be an impressive upgrade.

Anyone else have a problem getting texts and pictures from Iphone users on your S3? Weird?
Yes, I have an iPhone 4s from work and my wife has the GS3. She usually gets my texts without issue, but getting the pictures is a rarity. Like maybe 25% of the time or less does the picture come through.

Oh, also, the same wife has a Speck case that has done well for about a year but is now starting to chip and crack. What is the consensus FBG-recommended case to provide some protection while still allowing the phone to be slim enough to slide in and out of a pocket or purse easily?

Got one of these. Easy to put on, stays snug, buttons all work, not overly bulky (i.e. less bulky than Otterbox), but still feels solid.

Whatever you do, do NOT get an Otterbox Commuter series case. For some reason, I could never get my case to work with the volume rocker, and putting it on and taking it off was a pain in the ###.

Texts make it through to my buddies S3 but group texts rarely do, and my pictures never do. Not sure what's up but for S3 users to be unable to receive picture texts from iPhone users is a pretty big problem. Doesn't seem universal but it's commonplace enough to be an issue.

Was just coming here to recommend the same. I typically hate cases but as my first S3 exploded from a small less-than-waist-high drop, I finally caved. I got one of the UAG and it hasn't hindered my enjoyment of the phone much. I've since dropped it several times from waist height without so much as a scratch.

I got the white one and it looks good on my white phone as well.

Even when a photo does come through from an iPhone user I get it as a "slideshow" (even if it's only a single picture) which shows up small on the screen, won't zoom/auto-rotate, can't be saved/exported, etc.

This, combined with the lack of true group texting on android, are the biggest head-scratchers about an otherwise awesome phone/OS.

Went with the "Aero" one since I thought it'd look good with my pebble blue S3. I was right.

I get the slideshow thing but have no issues saving them to the disk and blowing them up. No problems with group texts either. I hate group texts though.

Never had a problem getting pictures from my any iPhones.

Probkem since tne update last weekhas been th e samsung keyboard keeps erroring and shutting down. Anyone having issues?

I don't understand why anyone still group texts. Just have everyone download Whatsapp and be completely platform agnostic.
