Enjoying my S4 from sprint but damn it comes loaded with a lot of crap.
Anyway to offload some of that crap? Wife has 2 pages of #### on her phone she will never use, would love to 86 it but just trying to drag the apps off to the trashcan doesn't seem to work.

Side note, factory reset has worked well for the constant rebooting we were experiencing with her phone. Just make sure you back everything up.
Here is a step by step on rooting your phone for the S4. I am a rookie at doing this and was able to get this done easily and quickly off this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?s=9c9fa1d43c8258f24531deefb8bc8d7b&t=2301720

The caveat to rooting is that it may break the warranty. I went almost 2 months stock with my S3, and decided to root it because I could not wait for Verizon to get off the toilet and push Jelly Bean.

You don't have to install a custom ROM for root to work. I was on rooted stock until I got into ROMs. But rooting has a lot of benefit where you can use apps that needs root, like Titanium Backup, Greenify, etc. You can get rid of all that bloat rooting your device and using Titanium to uninstall them. I forgot if just rooting took all the bloat out, but I think it didn't. So you have to figure out how to do that, and especially know how to backup your device.

It won't let me hold and drag icons. At first touch it opens the app. Is the screen locked or is the phone defective or something? This is driving me nuts.

TIA

ETA

Never mind. Apparently I'm not touching it hard enough or something.

Well sort of. Plus I go the home page of FBG's and it won't open anything? Anybody else having this issue?

Works for me, using standard Samsung browser.

Any update from those that decided to go with an HTC One. Trying to choose between it and the S4. Is there an HTC 1 thread?. Can't find it since you can't search just 3 letters.

As of August, the HTC One is still the best smartphone you can buy per Android Central.

I tend to agree with them... but if you want to be able to change your battery (or have access to a ton of accessories) get the S4 ;)

You can't go wrong with either.

I do tend to carry a spare battery but that's because I have a Thunderbolt and it has a horrible battery life. I like what I've read about the more barebones accessories of the HTC. I don't need a million gadgets. Definitely leaning HTC. Just have to look at them side by side.

Thanks for the link!

If I was offered both for free, I would chose the HTC One hands down... but if I were buying one I would spend a fair amount of time considering the S4 for the removable battery alone.

And I have to think I would go with the Google Play Edition S4, as the Samsung skin (touchwiz?) is absurd to me, but I know that a lot of people love it. I think I would be ok with the Sense skin on the HTC One.

went with the HTC One...love it!

I went on a road trip yesterday. I haven't ever HAD to have a spare battery, but yesterday I would have been ####ed without it. Like stranded at the airport at midnight ####ed without it.

There are rumors that the S5 will come out in Spring 2014. What can we expect the price drop on the S4 to be at that time?

Just updated to latest firmware. Keyboard now autocorrects. Thank you Samsung...that was the ONLY thing I hated about my phone. Makes typing so much quicker and less frustrating.

You could of done this by downloading the english language pack. This happened on my Note 2 a while back, and all of a sudden the autocorrect was gone.

Check out the google keyboard. I prefer it over the samsung one.

Trying to decide between s3 and s4.....50 difference in price. Might as well go for the s4 right?
Where are you getting an S4 from? My wife is in the market and I saw $50 w/ 2yr on Amazon. I would think they have to be giving S-3's away at this point.

Oh, I also really like Hello for the default SMS app. I still use default for quick reply as hello does not have quick reply yet.

Swiftkey is pretty good. I was using Go but after the latest update it crashed constantly so i uninstalled it.

Anyone else having worsening battery issues? Seemed to correlate with the 4.3 update, but I can't be sure. There hasn't been a change in how I use it or really added much recently. Even its battery use when idle seems to have suddenly gotten worse.

Just bought one from Costco yesterday and it was 100 rebate on top of zero cost out the door. Price is sweet.

Now onto issues. Major issue with having phone recognized by computer to transfer pics. Google it and it is a known huge problem and there are solutions and none of them are working for me. Of course this is day 2 and I have to work a little harder, but I don't think that I should need a comp sci degree to figure this out.

I upgraded from the galaxy 2 and so far pretty sramless.

That's an understatement. I want terrible things to happen to Samsung headquarters. I'll never own another Samsung product of any kind.

you mean by plugging in via usb?

I bought mine from costco too and i like it alot but the battery doesnt last long and it doesnt connect to my cars bluetooth automatically (i have to do it manually everytime i start the car which makes it worthless)

Well since I installed a KitKat ROM on my S3 I think I'm gonna keep it a while longer...maybe I'll get an S5 when I decide to upgrade.

Is that hard to do?
Nope, but you need to be rooted first. After that, install TWRP from play store (which is a recovery/backup/installer), download the ROM file(s) to your pc and put on your SD card, boot into recovery mode (TWRP), click backup. when thats done click wipe, when thats done, click and install the ROM file(s). Reboot. Done. Took maybe 10 minutes. If you want to go back to stock, boot back into recovery, and click restore. Everything comes back exactly the way you had it - apps, settings, screen layouts, everything.

Its scary the first time but after that its gravy. I installed 3 different ones last night before I found one I really like.

yep I tried everything, nothing works. My old phone had no issues. Its a 2014 subaru forester
I would try un pairing it and repairing it and make sure the option to auto connect is selected

Yes. I can hear it make the connection sound when plugged in, but it does not show up in my computer when I look and I get no reaction by the phone that it is plugged in.I put kies on the computer to try and use that-nothing. I do not get the mode change in settings that people say you should see etc. Very frustrating.

Mine connects automatically as well.Did you delete the pairing for the old phone on the car's bluetooth? Just wondering if the car still thinks the old phone is the device that is supposed to auto-connect.
