San Diego - NY Giants Super Bowl : Eli Manning story... (1 Viewer)

Now this would be the story... Eli and his father not wanting him to play in San Diego and for them to not draft him, yet they do anyway...

Then trade him to the Giants for Philip Rivers...

What a story that would be...

i dont think we are gonna have to worry about this happening however.

ETA: Better story: Patriots on verge of being greatest team in NFL history.

Yes/no?

Better story - The legend against the unbeatables. Has a Western-ring to it. Starring John Wayne as Brett Favre.

:fishing: I was thinking of posting the exact same thing. I'm not an Eli or NYG fan at all, but would enjoy seeing him win the SB just to stick it up everyone on his back. What we will see however, is Eli stink it up badly in the snow this week  and then Favre to sadly be embarrassed in an absolute whipping by the Pats the game after that.

What would have/will be best:

Eli vs. Peyton?

Favre vs. Brady?

Eli vs. San Diego(hadn't considered that, but good one)

Cowboys vs. NE

Giants / Chargers :

The Eli Manning story. Eli drafted by the Chargers with the #1 overall but refuses to play for them. A trade is worked out with the Giants sending him to New York for Phillip Rivers. And now both meet in Super Bowl 42.

Patriots / Packers:

Rematch of Super Bowl 31. Belichick, now widely considered the great coach of this era and perhaps of all time, suffered his only Super loss in that game at the hands of the future HOFer Bret Favre. 5 wins and that 1 loss, as defensive coordinator of the Patriots. Can Favre do it again, or does Belichick get revenge?

Patriots / Giants:

The Giants seemed had locked up a playoff berth but were not considered an elite team heading into a week 17 game at home vs the Patriots. Giants HC Tom Coughlin decides to play his starters the whole game with nothing to play for to try to stop the Patriots from going 16-0. While the Patriots won, the Giants never looked better, and went on a roll from that game to win 3 road games and get to the Super Bowl, only to meet the Patriots once again.

Chargers / Packers:

These two teams have only met 8 times since 1970. The Packers won 7 of those meetings, only losing in 1984 at Lambeau. This is more of a "novel" matchup, with two teams with different traditions that rarely converge. However, former Packers WR James Lofton, in the Packers HOF, is currently the WR coach for the Chargers.

Yes, I am biased, but this would be the best story. Great veteran team vs a possible great up and coming team. One of if not the greatest QB to play the game (Favre) against an arguable top 5 QB to play the game (Brady). A QB in his prime vs a QB who most people wrote off. Great story, hopefully the game would live up to the hype.

I will say this - first, it will NOT happen for a million reasons, but if by some MIRACLE the Giants made the Super Bowl and actually BEAT New England, I would retire from sports fandom.

It could not possibly get better than that - ever ever ever.

(Namely because it wont and cant happen)

Why would any non-Giants fan possibly root for a guy who pouted/whined/cried his way out of being a Charger?

Regarless of the family's (read: fathers) decision was back then, at least as Eli is coming into his own he seems to be a gentleman with class. :D

I suppose. He's also cut down on his drooling quite a bit, which is nice.

This is more or less true, which clearly cannot be said for Rivers. I couldn't stand Eli at all when he was drafted, but have learned to like him more as he has matured. Besides, it can't be easy having a superstar as an older brother. Just ask my younger bro!

Personally (and this is just opinion, so I won't point to any links) I think this be one of the lowest viewed Super Bowls ever.

Maybe, maybe not...
