I'll have to let the Boldin news sink in. I would have rather had Harvin, (Although I'd be concerned with the salary / injury / personality issues.)All I can think right now is, "Great. Grab Another WR from the team that beat us en route to the superbowl." (Manningham last year.)This is one trend I don't want to see continue any further. Golden Tate next year, anyone? :yucky:
I like the move. Obviously not as explosive as Harvin, but this will be a much cheaper price tag and Boldin is a proven vet that runs great routes that's tough and has super reliable hands.
I kind of like boldin as well but i can also see this being a bad trade. He's aging fast, especially for a tough wr and he isn't exactly cheap. Case in point is that Boldin went undrafted in both of my fantasy leagues two years in a row...both times he was picked up midseason but most (and these are expert fantasy guys) believe he is very shortly on the way out.
Don't confuse fantasy value with actual NFL value. Boldin may not be the stud he once was, but he's still plenty good enough to provide Kaepernick with a reliable, tough target to move the chains. I can't see how this could be possibly viewed as a bad trade. They gave up a 6th round pick. They have (or at least had) the most picks in the draft this year. They needed a solid and reliable wr. They didn't give up a lot (players, picks, cash) to get him. This is a tremendous deal for SF and the cost was so absurdly low they would have been fools to pass it up.
:goodposting: They basically signed him to a 1 year, 6 million deal. This is the kind of opportunity you can take advantage of when you develop through the draft and smartly manages the cap. After years of incompetence from the SF front office, it sure is nice to root for a team that knows what its doing once again.

Niners sign DL Glenn Dorsey from KC. Dorsey was the fifth overall pick in 2008. No link, I'm at a red light.

Are you talking the Terry Donahue era? Because most of the players that Harbaugh is winning with are before Harbaugh and Baalke.

He still is a WR on the downside. Not saying he isn't going to have a good season, but there is a reason why the cost was low.

Delanie Walker has reached an agreement with the Titans.Dammit.
Yeah, that sucks. Walker is a great team guy with who did all the little things to help the offense. But he hated the cost of living in the Bay Area. He does have some badass classic rides.

I think he probably ends up injured given his style of play and advanced age. And keep in mind welker is getting 6million per year. All I am saying is the 49ers could have probably spent that money on a much cheaper wr option and filled the same role as boldin. I realize he is a big name and people love to get pumped up about that but he is dang old for a wr that didn't get a ton of seperation in his prime.

That's why the Niners should still draft Robert Woods in the second

The 49ers need a physical WR on the squad, so Boldin can help there. But yeah, he isn't known for his separation, and Harbaugh kinda kept Moss under wraps maybe due to his age, possibly preserving him for later in the season. It would be interesting to see how many snaps he gets early in this upcoming season.

I think he is WR2 by default right now with Manninghams timeline to return still uncertain. I see him getting plenty of snaps, it just remains to be seen how quick he and Kaep develop chemistry. IIRC, he was never really known as a separation guy, he used to get chunks of yards after the catch due to his strength. He's still tough to bring down though. He's not a long term answer, but I can't think of any reason its not a good deal for SF right now.

If LaRon Landry (Jets safety) doesn't get a deal in Indy today, he will visit SF Thursday. He'd look good in our secondary.

Louis Delma visiting 49ers

The free agent safety market has started to thin, but several accomplished players remain available. Among them: Lions free agent Louis Delmas, who will visit the 49ers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old Delmas, a 49-game starter for Detroit in the last four seasons, visited St. Louis to begin free agency. Now he will be hosted by the Rams’ division rivals, who have a clear need in the defensive backfield with free safety Dashon Goldson moving on to Tampa Bay.

Delmas, ranked No. 49 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100, would be a solid replacement for Goldson on his best form. The primary potential concern with Delmas is durability. He missed eight games in 2012 and five in 2011 because of injuries to both knees.

The Lions added Texans free safety Glover Quin on Wednesday, filling one starting spot at the position.
Dunno much about him, other than reading a bit here and there. Anybody have a skinny on him?

My linkOlds 442. Nice.
Very nice... Sucks to see him go.
If you click through the article, you'll see more of Walker's rides, plus VD's, Willis' and Gore's. Some of those rides are  to  .

Yeah, I agree with that. Still think they need to grab another in the draft. What's interesting now is if and where they draft a QB. TZ is the only other QB on the roster, I think.

I think they should look at Heyward Bey. He has been mired on some terrible Raider teams since drafted. He's young, is not injury prone, and has improved every year in the league (his numbers were down a bit last year after a nasty concussion early in the year). In a good situation I think he could make an impact, but I have no idea what he would cost (he was scheduled to make around $10mil next year  )

And yes, I know we can't go after every available FA, but we are lacking a true deep threat, and I'm sure Kaep wouldn't mind. ;)

I think DHB's contract and he going before Crabs kinda led to Crabs' holdout. So it would be kinda ironic if the 49ers grabbed him.

Hes good when hes healthy but he gets hurt alot do to his physical style. Hes basically like Bob Sanders

Sort of suprised they havent made any secondary moves yet. They need a CB. Im not too concerned about Saftey. Goldson wasnt worth the $$ IMO

He's young. But durability is key, and the 49er defense is a "physical with an F" defense. I just reminded myself that Singletary did something good there.

I know Singletary gets a lot of hell around here. But I can definitely tell the difference in the defense after having him as the DC/HC. Much better all around tacklers, much better form. And I'm not sure how much of it was his call, but drafting Iupati and Davis has paid off rather well.Call me crazy, but I'm a fan of bringing in Asomugha. I think he was put into a system that didn't play to his strengths in Phi, and would be a nice boost.

I've been hoping they bring in DHB, and with his recent release, I think it could be possible and would be just the deep threat that is needed. I'd really like to find out what they have in Jenkins though.

Just chatted with a cheerful Jim Harbaugh, who spoke to the SJ State football team today. Harbaugh has a large, stitched gash on his forehead and a cut in his lip. "I'm back to drinking and fighting again," he said. He was joking. Right?

I give Sing the credit for Iupati and Davis because: 1. He was leaning that way before Scot McGloughan's sudden departure, drafting for the trenches to play his physical style of football, meaning run the ball.

2. Scot McGloughan had drafted offensive lineman in rounds 1-2 before with trading up for Staley and Rachal.

3. Baalke was basically working off of a lot of McGloughan's draft notes and board. ScotM's idea for the 49ers was to build like the 90's Cowboys according the Kevin Lynch, with having a huge physical o-line.

4. Baalke was an interim GM, with way less juice than Sing, just due to Sing's contract.

On DHB and NmandI: if they are cheap, why not? They might be a bit overloaded at WR though, and they still should look to one in the draft. Nmandi is a bit overrated, but if he doesn't cost much is worth a peek.

RT @caplannfl: Ricky Jean Francois agreed to a 4 year, $22 M deal with the Colts, per source.

There goes RJF. I always liked him, was versatile. Not much of a pass rusher, though felt like he was a good run stuffer

Must have met a SB ref at a bar. Joking aside, this kind of stuff will only lead to another off-season arrest of a player.

He was always kinda meh to me, but hey when you play in one of the best defenses in the NFL even as a rotation guy, you can get paid.

As much as I wish the best for RJF and Soap, I suspect they will be back on the market next season after getting waived. Can't tie up that kind of cash on average 3-4 linemen.
