*** San Francisco 49ers *** Kittle locked down til 2029; Purdy contract watch underway (5 Viewers)

Playoff Quarterbacks remaining:

NFC:
Brock Purdy
Jared Goff
Baker Mayfield
Jordan Love

AFC:
Lamar Jackson
Josh Allen
Patrick Mahomes
C.J. Stroud

Who woulda thunk it?

Who woulda thunk it?

The AFC is almost all chalk.

Lots of people had SF In the Final Four and would have put Goff there, too.

It's really only three surprising QBs and if you stated your case for Love and Stroud early, I would have let you have it. Well, Stroud I never would have let you have, but that's the exception of knowing back then that there were unknown unknowns—that is, the things we don't know that we don't know.

Green Bay won't be a cake walk, but I don't see losing to them.
Not many people saw Dallas losing to them, either. Just saying...
This game has me nervous, Pack look real good. With that being said, Shanny knows this is his best team, and could possibly be the most talented team he’ll ever get to coach, they’re absolutely stacked! I think he’ll have them ready to go, he knows if not now, then when… This team isn’t Dallas.

as a packer fan i fear sf is where our run stalls out. 9ers ain't dallas. gb always loses to sf in playoffs. they run similar offensive schemes. sf will not be fooled like dallas was. sf will not be ran on like dallas was. they will be prepared very well for gb. only hope gb has is if love plays out of mind again and somehow the defense forcess mulitple turnovers. but it's far more likely sf just runs away with it. their lines are so dominant they can wreck gb from start to finish of every play. coaching won't decide this game like in dallas. the talent on the field will and sf has a big advantage there

Green Bay looked good against Dallas, but they did lose to the Giants and Bucs weeks 14 and 15, and they dropped a whopping 17 points on the Bears in a must win game week 18.

Theyve also allowed 4 teams to rush for over 200 yards this season: Atlanta (211), Detroit (211), Pittsburgh (205) and the Giants (209).

Here's their defense ranks:

In games where they're favored by 10 or more this season, the 49ers are 6-0 straight up and 4-2 against the spread. They’ve been dominant every time they’ve been heavy favorites this season.

The weather for this game looks like rain and gusty winds. Shanahan runs it down their throat all day and we win by double digits

I was watching at a bar and closed my eyes when Young stumbled on the drop back and didn't open them until I heard Summerall say he made the catch.

I especially love Starkeys radio call:

"OWENS! OWENS! OWENS!...HE CAUGHT IT! HE CAUGHT IT! HE CAUGHT IT!"

Rice fumbled!

And yeah..this should be a win for SF. Poster above had it right…GB needs Love to be perfect and the D to get at least tow takeaways (or some rust by SF with the bye and lack of a meaningful game in the final week of the season).

This is the week that the back foot throws downfield that Love favors will hurt him. He has been able to get away with it against lesser defenses, but not this one. Also, I do not care what happened last week, the Packers defense is atrocious, and this is based on their entire season body of work. I cannot see Jaire playing, so I have no idea how they are going to cover all of the playmakers. Odd thing is that Quay Walker looks like a shell of the last year's version of himself. Him trying to cover CMC will be fun to watch, 35-10 9ers.

49ers who will be back to full-go at practice:

Ambry Thomas
Ji'Ayir Brown
Tashaun Gipson Sr.

Arik Armstead and George Odum back in a limited capacity. Greenlaw and Logan Ryan expected back at practice Wednesday

This is as healthy as the 49ers have been all season.

Packers' linebackers coverage grades (PFF):

De'Vondre Campbell: #29 (out of 50)
Quay Walker: #47 (out of 50)

I'd expect the "Shanascope" to be firmly targeted at one of these linebackers in coverage against Kittle, McCaffrey or one of the 49ers' receivers.

weather forecast now has it looking like mild conditions and no rain

Akash:

The 49ers' most valuable defender this season was Arik Armstead.

Armstead ON the field: -0.14 EPA (really good)
Armstead OFF the field: +0.02 EPA (above average)

His return should be a huge boost to the defense (especially against the run).
I cannot wait to see him back. He’s been a fixture on this defense forever.

This is pretty wild:

Head coach Kyle Shanahan sat down with Purdy in the offseason, making it clear that the young quarterback would start in Week 1. Barring any setback in his recovery, only one factor could have altered this plan.

"Early in the offseason, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan sat down with Purdy and assured him that if he was healthy he would be the starter unless Brady wanted to play one more season for his hometown Niners," wrote Nick Wagoner in a feature for ESPN.

Purdy understood the 49ers' thinking. If you have a shot at a future Hall of Fame quarterback, you take it. Even after Brady's retirement, rumors persisted about the possibility of him playing one season for his hometown 49ers.

According to Wagoner, San Francisco was "ready for one final run at Tom Brady." However, Brady remained retired, and the team moved forward with their impressive young quarterback.

"I remember him saying, if we can get Tom Brady, we're going to try to get him. And I was like, 'Yeah, he's the GOAT. I get it.' But something deep down inside me was sort of like, 'Dude, I just showed you that I can play well in this system. And we were one game away from the Super Bowl.' ... More than anything, I was like, 'OK, now let's go.'"

Dre Greenlaw (Achilles tendinitis) is back at 49ers practice. Logan Ryan (groin) is back too.

Clelin Ferrell (knee) is the only missing player on the active roster

49ers didn't activate Danny Gray ahead of thr deadline, so he's shelved til next season.

3rd round pick in 2022, he has 1 career catch.

Garbage.
We kid around a lot, but maybe they really should trade any 3rd round draft choices for multiple 5th rounders where they do really well:

2017: Witherspoon : Miss
Bethard: Miss

2018: Warner: Big hit
T. Moore: Miss

2019: J. Hurd: Big miss

2020: No 3rd rounders

2021: T. Sermon: Miss
A. Thomas: Decent pick but not a hit

2022: Davis-Price: Big miss
D. Gray: Big miss

2023: Brown: Looks like a hit
Moody: Stats look good but cost them Browns game with a miss from 41 and also the meaningless Rams game. Not impressed overall
Latu: Not impressed. Looks like a miss at this point. Seems like he went on IR for the season because they knew he couldn't beat out Dwelley this year

12 3rd rounders in the Lynch/Shanhan regime. 2 hits (Warner and Brown), 1 OK (Thomas), 1 maybe (Moody) and 8 misses. Pretty sucky.

My oldest has a hockey game that starts at the same time as the game Saturday night... going to be watching from my phone, but still can't wait.

Pretty cool that you can stream your son's hockey game to your phone.

Lol, in all honesty though, Livebarn is fantastic and does allow for streaming at many rinks. With two kids in travel hockey, I've had to stream many of their games while at a different rink.

“4 games, 8 QB’s. We have 7 terrific QB’s and Brock Purdy.”-
@AmyTrask
doesn’t put Purdy in the same category as the other remaining QB’s in the playoffs….

It doesn't seem to openly phase Purdy, but after the season he just put up, and still hearing nonsense like this... He's got much thicker skin than I do. I've been a 9ers fan from the time I was 5, and of course, I want them to win every year. But I think for the first time I want them to win a Super Bowl just for Purdy. I want him to get one so badly just so all these talking heads that take shots at him will stfu. Although, I'm not sure even if they win it all this year and he gets a Superbowl MVP it'll be enough.

I saw that yesterday - I know nobody ever has a 100% approval rating, but it blows my mind that otherwise reasonable people still hate on him to this degree. People would really rather have Baker Mayfield?

Warner and Brown make all the misses worth it, imo.
Ah no

One has nothing to do with the other :ponder:
Kawakami and Barrows were gushing over all Peters' late round successes on their podcast today. No discussion of how he was a key part of the brain trust that has also been pretty inept in the early rounds.
Yeah. I laugh at that kind of stuff all the time. Lynch makes the early picks and Peters the late round picks? My guess is Peters has input on all the rounds. Well, except maybe the Solomon Thomas pick. That seemed to be all Lynch

Yeah it's just idiotic at this point, I don't let any of it bother me. I can say things too, but saying things doesn't make them fact.

They'll all choke on their ignorance soon enough.

I was just thinking about it; the last time I had expectations as high as this season was 11 years ago. Smith/Smith/Willis/Kaep/Crabtree/etc. They were coming off the loss to the Ravens and I thought Jim would right the ship and lead them to the Lombardi Trophy. Dumb Seahawks won it that year! Huge letdown.

This season, I came in super high on Brock, and this team dominates that team almost everywhere except LB. It was really the first time since that season I thought anything but a SB is huge failure. I feel that way more than ever right now! If Shanny wants to be remembered as a sick guru, this is the time. Have them prepared, fired up, and ready to go… 3 games, it starts tomorrow, LFG!!!!

It boggles the mind. There is a better argument for Purdy as the best NFC QB remaining, than dead last.

She was involved in drafting Jamarcus Russel, she’s very credible!

I saw that on Twitter but I didn't even bother to verify it because it seemed too perfect to be true.

eta* I'd figure throwing shade like that would not be an avenue she'd want to take regardless of her involvement with Russell, but you know people are going to people.

Lombardi:

Clelin Ferrell to IR with his knee injury, a surprise since the 49ers initially hoped it’d only be a short-term issue. But that’s the move to make room for George Odum’s return to the 53.

Today’s practice squad elevations: DE Alex Barrett and DT T.Y. McGill.
