San Francisco 49ers sign Josh McCown (1 Viewer)

49ers signed QB Josh McCown, formerly of the Panthers. They're apparently passing on Daunte Culpepper. McCown, 32, spent last season with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League. He last played in the big leagues with Carolina in 2009. McCown holds a career completion rate of 57.7 with a 35:40 TD-to-INT ratio. The 49ers say they only view him as a third-string quarterback behind Alex Smith and rookie Colin Kaepernick.

This is threadworthy? They can't decide if they should sign a washed up Culpepper so they sign the star of the UFL who had a 79 rating with the Hartford Colonials to be the 3rd stringer. This QB crew is :X

It's threadworthy because it makes me think about the time he merked the Vikings.
I was at that game. Even better, I was there with maybe 6-10 Vikings fans, many of them who travelled from Minnesota to see it. They were relatives of a friend, who tends to be obnoxious. And he bought the tickets. They were so crushed and stunned and there I am, laughing my butt off.To this day, McCown to Poole makes me giggle like a mental patient and remains my favorite non-Steeler game I ever attended.

I was in my basement alone watching the colored possession arrow move on nfl.com but your story is good too.

They really should just give the ball to CK from day one and call the season a loss. See if CK can be the QB of the Future... and if so, great. If not, #suckforluck is in full effect.

You can't see if Kaepernick is QBOTF from day 1. They know he's not ready. He can learn on the job, but that can be a mixed bag too.

I remember that play well. Poole only got one foot down but the Ref ruled it as a "force out". At least the Vikings can't lose that way again since the force out rule no longer exists.

This is the QB they brought in to compete? Yeesh, I thought they said Harbaugh was a terrific judge of QB talent. Crabtree and Braylon owners are going to be ripping their hair out this year.

unusual camp arms

I was annoyed the Browns cut Harrell after Mangini praised the guy. After throwing for a million miles in college, he was about to be a coach at OU IIRC but interestingly enough, the Packers fell in love with him last year and he's already impressed them in the short time he's been there this year.

Zac Robinson seems smart and poised. There's plenty that people pick on about him and I get that, but he wasn't going to play for the Pats and ...why not get him in there?

Pick a college QB ya liked recently and see what he can do, that's typically a camp arm. Occasionally, they pan out.

Or Carolina...go get Pike, he's done in Carolina.

At this point, it feels like the Niners might as well sign like 10-20 QBs and hope to find a diamond in the rough. Anyone they do sign is probably as good and cheaper than Smith too.

Did Luck by a home near San Fran yet?

How old is Elvis? Can he be convinced to return?

Will Mike Brown truly not trade Carson?

They have to push the envelope quick or start an extra RB and snap it to him
