Santana trade fantasy implications (1 Viewer)

Gotta figure his numbers get even better in the NL with a better team - early drafts had him slipping to bottom of the 1st rd - does he jump back into top 5 status now?

I have him in one league for 2 more yrs and would only deal him if offered a crazy pkg.

So where does he rank now overall?

I;m never a big fan of taking pitching that early...

I think his value stays around the same (late 1st/early 2nd), but I bet his stock does rise and someone takes him 5th or 6th...

depends on league context, but 15 team, mixed leagues (like NFBC) he will be drafted in the middle to late first round (and if healthy and back to form earn it)

I too own him in a keeper league......and can own him the rest of his career.

That said, I traded him away in another league last year for Maggs and Harang(I may keep both this year)

I don't know if he'll be kept by the owner I traded him to(his $$$ is very high).....if he is released back into the draft pool, he is a sure #1 pick.

:lmao: I feel the same way. I won't be taking him, but someone is going to get a really good year out of him in my league.

strange - everyone loves him but no one wants to pony up to get him. Luckily I have him in an auction league so I can add some top offense to him as well. Snake drafts its tough to grab him early and wait a long time to grab a big bat. Auction leagues I have no problem paying for him and then adding some 1st rd like talent around him for a great 1-2 punch!

I don't like him at all in an auction. His price will be high enough to mess up an entire team's salary structure. The inherent risk that comes with pitchers is too great when you factor in the premium you'll have to pay for Santana. While he's the clear #1 SP, I'd take the field bet that some other SP will end up having a better fantasy season.

whats too high for him in an auction? Looks like he is valued around $33-35 in a $260 league - seems reasonable if you can get him for that.

His move to the NL will push him close, if not over, $40I would stay away too.............unless you can get him at $33..........then he would be a bargain

I'd be shocked if he went for less than $40 in any auction this year (

Auctions are all about value. Santana is "the best pitcher in baseball". His trade saga has been the longest running story of the off-season. He'll be cover boy on a stack of pre-season magazines. This will drive bidding for him on draft day; winning owners will likely be paying a Santana tax for the privilege of having him on their rosters.

If he goes out and performs at a level of a $35-40 SP, good for you and great for the Mets, but he's only providing value if he exceeds that performance level. It's not impossible but damned hard for a SP to significantly outperform a price tag in the high $30s. There's a much greater risk that he'll be overvalued.

I'm going to have the third pick overall this year (14-team, 5x5 roto, dynasty) and I'm targeting Santana over Reyes (assuming A-rod and Pujols go 1-2). I think there's a lot more late value offense out there this year than there is pitching. He's as close to a sure thing as there is in fantasy baseball ... and now he gets to face a pitcher instead of a DH two or three times/game. I figure we see a surge in Ks and wins this year.

A huge contract, a hair under 30, moving to NY and the NL, I'm expecting a drop off. Whether it be complacency or injury, it's gonna happen.

Mark it Down

I see the move to the NL to a better team outweighing all those other factors. I see a big increase in his numbers from last year - especially Ks and Ws.
Finally a voice of reason. He's going to a better team with a better offense. He's going to the NL and will face the opposing SP at least twice. He'll be pitching half of his games at pitcher friendly Shea. But lets throw ALL that out and say the pressure of pitching NY will kill all that.
