Santonio Holmes: Shark or bait? (1 Viewer)

Shutout

Footballguy
What do you guys think of Holmes going forward?

He's not talked about much all, but he's looking solid in ppr.

Currently, he is top 20 in my ppr leagues and is just a handful of points from being a top 10.

His points are very steady and consistent; no huge games but no stinkers either.

The Jets just lost revis and there's some speculation that with the running game issues that the Jets will simply be forced to throw more in the future.

So is he a shark move to get or is this type of information just prettying him up to use as bait?

If I were a Holmes owner I'd be fine with him as my WR3, but if you can sell him off as a WR2 value right now then you should. The part that most scares me is the possibility of Tebow taking over later in the season.

I had Holmes in both of my leagues, dealt him with Torrey Smith for Fitzgerald in one. I just can't rely on Sanchez but am very surprised at his production this year. Hate having to start him but he has been producing.

Yeah, i was looking at how some players are doing so far and I haven't really watched any Jets games from start to finish but I was surprised to see that the end totals are very steady for Holmes. Now, with the key injury on defense, etc, I can kind of seeing this just being the way it is this year.

I am trying to sell him high everywhere I can. With that said it does feel like NYJ is going to get in some shootouts now that half the defensive backfield opened up. WR4/3 until I see otherwise though.

You're the 2nd person mention him as a WR3. I agree I think that's how people probably see him but his numbers are upper WR2. And most people seem to be agreeing re: the likelihood they will be passing a bit more going forward, whether they like it or not. I think he might indeed be a good sell at this point but I also think the buyer might be happy because since everyone seems to be thinking of him as a WR3, the price isn't likely matching what he is actually producing (does that make him a buy low?)

Cant say hes a sell high because I still don't think ur getting much for him. Atleast I couldn't in my dynasty league, best offers were 2nd tier def players. At this point may be best to trade another wr of higher perceived value and ride Holmes.

Yeah, I'm not really looking at trade for trade sake anyways. Was really just interested in how he has pleasantly surprised so far and trying to guage his overall place in fantasy at this time.

If Stephen Hill doesn't play this week against SF (which it looks like he may not), does that hurt or help Holmes? One would think that Sanchez would lock onto him giving Holmes the majority of the passing targets because there are no other options, on the other hand the SF Defense could then focus all of their attention on stopping Holmes.

What do you think, does the Stephen Hill injury hurt or help Holmes this week?

33 targets, 16 catches - and we know that isn't because Holmes isn't running the correct routes.

As long Sanchize is running the show (presumably infinity or until Ryan gets fired down the road), his upside and trade value is limited.

But def a solid WR3 so I would view him as a hold. It's not like Kerley or Hill are taking over as the top dog this year.

I saw him on the waiver wire so I grabbed him just for the sake of grabbing him. But I'm thinking of cutting him for Andrew Hawkins or Mikel Leshoure.

It seems like Kerley is really the other legit threat in the passing game. And Keller's status would be taken into account too, I believe.

Holmes has been surprisingly consistent and effective this season, but I still don't trust him (or Ryan). I would not hesitate to grab Leshoure and drop Holmes.

I'm looking to deal him for a RB because I have the depth I need at WR.....IMO now is the best time as I am not sure he sustains this production.....the window is small...he will have some nice games but I have had Holmes before and he is one of those guys you just never feel really great about starting....I swore I would never draft him again but he fell so far this year I couldn't pass him up.....

Cant complain about the number of targets for a wr3, if he starts holding on to the ball consistently you have 8th/9th round gold

To this point, he’s been consistently outscoring my other WR3’s while sitting on my bench. I can’t ignore that he is in the top-ten for targets through the first 3 weeks, even if he only catches half of the passes thrown his way. And the targets have been trending the right way (steadily increasing from 8 to 11 to 14). I’m plugging him in this week over guys like Kenny Britt and Denarius Moore.

Jets | Do not expect Stephen Hill for Week 4     Thu Sep 27, 12:05 PM

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has all but ruled out WR Stephen Hill (hamstring) for Week 4.

What's everyone doing with him at this point?

Definitely grabbed his knee when he went down but Jets claim its a left foot injury. X-Rays negative, no clear timetable for return, but definitely out this week. Likely a multi-week ordeal. Is everyone holding, cutting bait, etc?

Was having a decent WR2/3 season thus far but I'm having a hard time not sending him packing for a WW WR like Hartline or Hixon.

As the Jets await word on Santonio Holmes, the feeling in organization is that he will be lost for the season with a foot injury. #nyj

That would qualify as "bait"...heard possible lisfranc mentioned yesterday.

I saw that tweet was from Rich Eisen. Thanks for the info. That should make everyone's decision a bit more clear.

Yeah, unfortunately, a fairly solid season not looks down the drain. Hopefully anyone kicking around the idea in this thread pulled the trigger last week if they were baiting and didn't if they were sharking...
