Santonio Holmes traded to the Jets! Story coming at PFT.

WOW! What does this mean for Wallace? Would this cause the Steelers to draft a WR early?

@BobGlauber NFL source: Jets acquire Santonio Holmes from Steelers for 5th round pick in 2010.

Wait, so with all the WR starved teams out there no one else could muster up something to beat a 5th round pick?

St Louis and Miami, get your thumbs outta your asses and start paying attention. There's things happening in this here national football league.

M. Wallace is the biggest winner of this deal. Cotchery/Holmes/Edwards value all takes a huge hit. Just not enough balls there to go around to get excited about any of them. Really upsetting as a Holmes/Cotchery owner.

Just a 5th round pick. Wow.

Rooneys were pretty sick of him, with his "wake and bake" and "kill urself" tweets, plus the glass throwing incident in the bar, the 2008 drug charge, and the suspension upcoming for either failing or skipping a test. He's signed through 2010 and there's been a lot of yap on his part that they won't pay him what he deserves, so getting rid of him now gets rid of a big headache all in all. But only for a 5th. Interesting.

Pretty interesting trade. I definitely didn't see this one coming.

I feel like Ben's value takes a hit. Wallace becomes a more realistic breakout candidate in the short term, but it remains to be seen if he can thrive in a starting role. Limas Sweed might have a pulse again. The Steelers will probably add someone in the draft now. The Randle El acquisition makes a little more sense.

I don't know how this impacts Cotchery and Edwards. I think Cotchery is the better NFL receiver, but he doesn't have the big play ability of Edwards. The only clear winner for NYJ is Mark Sanchez, who now has a well above average WR corps at his disposal. I felt like he was being overlooked a little bit in FF circles. This might change that.

Holmes must be a headache behind the scenes if the Steelers were willing to part ways with him in the prime of his career. Hopefully he will get the message and stay out of trouble.

Maybe it's a 5th round pick because of the 4 game suspension?

Steelers are sounding a very loud message.

Jets just keep getting better

Cotchery Out? Braylon gone?

I can understand PIT getting sick of Holmes' act, but if this deal is true, I think it's a massive failure in getting value for letting him walk. Even with a 4 game suspension I find it impossible that teams wouldn't give more than a 5th.

Couldn't stay out of the headlines in Pittsburgh, PA, so now he'll get out of the spotlight now that he's in New York, NY ?

:lmao:

Is Pittsburgh officially in the Dez Bryant sweepstakes? Do they turn around and...I guess they really don't need to trade for anyone. Limas Sweed stock might be inching up just a tad...they took him 2 years ago and he was passed quickly by Wallace but now Sweed might get a WR3 spot.

I have to think the Steelers take a WR early in the draft. With Ward's age, no way they go with just he and Wallace .. and the past their prime veterans brought in

for the first time ever i made an early offseason trade in my keeper league. i dealt marques colston for jonathan stewart, because i was confident in holmes finally breaking out in pittsburgh's pass-happy offense.

i will NEVER make another trade until at least the summer.

Dexz Bryant? Golden Tate?
If they want a burn a late first on the position then Benn, Tate, Thomas, and Bryant are all viable candidates. It's just a matter of preference. I know that some of the folks around here are down on Thomas, but I think he has a good chance of being a first round pick when the dust settles. The tea leaves say teams aren't sleeping on his talent.

 I just don't get this from Pittsburgh's point of view.Even with the baggage, even if a four game suspension is a certainty, I can't imagine they couldn't get more than a 5th and if they couldn't they should have kept him. It's not like he's the biggest distraction on the team.

Feels low. Confirmation of suspension coming?
I would think so. But, with Cotchery, Holmes, and Edwards, Sanchez has weapons
Don't forget Keller. I think they're still a running team offensively, but this gives Sanchez an outstanding environment in which to succeed.

5th round pick? WTF? Why did Miami not get involved?
Probably were never approached. maybe sly Woody called Pittsburgh and the Steelers just said "Sure, here"...the Jets have been stealing form everyone. They added Cromartie, now another WR, they are ready to win now.
I think SD did OK on the Cromartie trade. If I was a GM in the AFC East, I would be PO.

Or do they go after one of the high profile FAs like Marshall, VJax, or Austin?

PIT goes with WR in the second-round - plenty of value there. Golden Tate, Arrelious Benn, Demaryius Thomas all likely second-round picks.

Even someone like Taylor Price would make sense.

Their first-rounder is still going towards OL or DB.

Wow. Lot of pressure on Sanchez now. His lack of progress would be the only thing to hold back this offense.

Above-average RB.

Above-average TE.

Outstanding group of WRs.

Perhaps the best OL in the game.

Belichick can't be pleased, which pleases me.

Not sure any of those guys fall to 52, tbh. Last year there were 8 WRs selected by the 52nd pick. 8 in 2008.9 in 2007.If the Steelers want a premium prospect at the position then I think they'll need to use their first round pick.
