Save $ on cell service -- Ting Mobile / Solavei (+ other MVNOs) (2 Viewers)

Hey, board actually working for me today.  For phones on the inexpensive side I think the Moto G4 and the OnePlus 3T are the only 2 worth deciding between.

Glad to hear that. Based on my research, the Moto G4's camera was pretty powerful for a decent price.

Keep your phone AND save on your bill.

Did you know you can get 6 months FREE service1 when you switch to Republic Wireless—and keep the phone you already love?

Here’s how it works:

  1. Check to see that your phone is compatible.
  2. Order a FREE SIM kit (more for free!) while supplies last.1 All you pay for is shipping and taxes. Don’t wait! Offer ends today at 11:59pm ET.
  3. Activate your new phone line by June 6, 2017, and get up to $30 off your bill for 6 months.

Bump for Xfinity hopping onto the VZW network as an MVNO: https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/

If you're an Xfinity customer, $45/mo unlimited data (up to 20GB/mo) with no line access fee. Catch is you have to buy a phone through them, similar to Google Fi it auto-handoffs to Xfinity hotspots when in range. Only their phones bought through them have this built in. Available are the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8 and phones within those families.

If they get the iPhone 8 I'm in, but for now I'm on VZW and I suspect (can't support this, just guessing) flagship phones upon release will only stay with the premium parent VZW in terms of availability to prevent cannibalization.

Wait, that is not unlimited.  Or is it just throttled to 2g or something after that?

Just added a phone to my AT&T account for my kids (first cell phone for low end teenagers to share - will add more when they need it). That phone shares with my data (I get 3 gig and rollover each month) and it only adds $25/month. I don't use much of the data, so we shouldn't run out.

(Cross post from the google thread, but I think you guys have discussed phone options in here from time to time)

Alright gents, my Note 4 is dying.  It's reset on its own at least 10 times today.  I wiped the cache with no effect.  I'm going to do a factory reset tonight but preparing for the real possibility that fixes nothing, what are my options for a replacement given this situation:

I'm really trying to hold out until fall to see what the new Pixel and Iphone's bring, so I'm not looking to drop a lot of coin here.  Refurbs are fine.  Where do I look?

Additional info, needs to be Verizon compatible

If you need a cheaper Verizon phone try the Axon 7. Still a decent phone and can be had new for around $350. While the phone works with them it's not on their approved list. So you may have to play a little hardball to get them to transfer sim cards if yours is different.

Or just buy a used/refurb Samsung device from groupon to tide you over until the new Pixel is announced.
Thanks.  I did buy a battery for it about 6 months ago so I don't think its the battery... I'll check out groupon, didn't know I could get deals on samsung refurbs there..

Looking for a new phone...my nexus 5 appears to have crapped out.  Like androids and I'm cheap....suggestions?  Use Ting which utilizes Spring network.

I'm not sure if it pertains to current customers or not but Sprint is running a deal on the LG G6 for 5 bucks a month for 24 months.

Just saw that you were using ting. What is the max willing to spend and are you willing to buy a used/refurb phone?
$200.  Maybe on used/refurb...would prefer factory refurb.  Was thinking nexus 6 since pixel came out.

I had Tmobile, but switched to US Mobile to save like 75% from what I was paying.

What's weird, though, is that even though US Mobile uses the Tmobile network, I hit a lot of dead spots in places I used to have a strong reliable signal
I was told Mvnos and prepaid plans don't get all the towers of the networks they use.

As an owner of the Nexus 6 I'd recommend looking elsewhere. It has not held up well and the newer low end Moto's would be better off performance wise.

Another option would be the Nexus 6P. That would be better than the Nexus 6.
Sadly, I have to agree. I've had a Nexus 6 through Google Fi for about a year and a half I think and, while Google Fi is great, the phone itself has been really laggy of late. Just not built to last, I think.

Picked up a Moto G5 on Primeday and have an unlocked phone for the first time.  What's the cheapest plan out there that affords some flexibility if I find my usage may increase?

I need a pay as you go service that'll let me just make a call or text every couple of months to keep it active. This is just a back up kinda gig to put in the In-law's glove boxes. Ond a cheapie phone that'll be compatible with the service

TIA

Thinking for looking for a new cheaper plan than t mobile... Gots four people on the plan, each with a different type of phone.  Is that going to be a problem? Looking at that wirefly site it seems like only some phones are available with some plans. Any advice out there...tia?

Went with Moto 5g from Amazon.  Solid phone.  Thinking I'll buy another when the wife's iPhone 5 bites the dust.
I bought the Moto G5+, $200 from Costco.com. Solid phone, and fast too, great deal. Going to pick one up for my wife next.

TING is pay for what you use with a $6/mo fee.

Personally for me it would be based on the chances of the merger going through. Promise of better spectrum and tower deals combined look impressive. So done deal and I'd jump back to Sprint ina heartbeat. Deal starts getting picked apart and Sprint is gonna do what it's always done, slow as hell and probably ### backwards.

What was the reason you left Sprint originally? If merger falls apart are you willing to deal with that crap again?
Never have been with Sprint. Always been att or Verizon. I’m looking at the money factor here. I use my phone mainly as s phone. So, dollars and cents for me.

What I mean by that is light surfing and email checking. My current plan is 2GB so mostly wifi and stuff like that.

I'm with Verizon now but this is ~$35 a month difference. Are there reasons to not switch? Coverage pretty similar with Sprint? When I'm at home, I'm on Wifi and I don't stream music or YouTube. I'd be able to do more YouTube with the plan but its not like I'm going to stream videos for 5 hours a day. Is this Spring deal too good to be true?
Man, that looks like a great deal on the surface.  Check Sprint coverage in your area... but for mail calls, how can you beat it?

The sprint deal also seems to have very good deals on phones. I don't think my son's iPhone 5s will work, but I can get a 6s from them for ~$10/month, and I would get to upgrade to an X for ~$20/month. (Less than I'm paying for my 8 with AT&T. YAY!!)

Just wondering about quality on Sprint vs. AT&T...

The $15 deal does not include those prices on the phones. You need to pay in full for the phone or bring a phone in. Those prices to add an extra $20 a month or whatever work with their real unlimited plan... not the $15 plan.

I’m in a metro area and don’t travel much. I ordered the stuff last night so I imagine it will be here on Monday. We’ll see but it’ll be approximately $35 cheaper than Verizon. I live chatted with Verizon last night and they wouldn’t drop my fees at all. So, let’s change it up.

Very happy Sprint customer for the last 18 months. Chicago has great coverage and is teeing up for 5G next year soon.
If I lived in Chicago, Dallas, LA, Atlanta, Houston, or DC I don't know why you wouldn't at least give them a try with a cheap prepaid option to at least try the speed of the new network they are rolling out....

Maybe it's too good to be true but it's definitely worth a try.

It sure does and beats TING which runs on the Sprint Network by a mile. Seriously going to think about this

I've had Sprint for the past few years. Overall I've had very little problems, out here in the sticks as you know, it can be spotty at times, but that's around East Troy area..... Around here and in MKE no problems at all.

I read something from the CEO that said it was expected to be honored for a few years. It's a stunt promotion but they're trying every angle to build more customers.

Well, that sux. I don't own my phone, I do it similar to their plan, where you can upgrade after 12 payments (~$25/month). Was kinda looking forward to the good deal on the X! ($20/month) :(

Ugh really? Which carrier are you going to port to?
Yea, I hadn't thought that thru. They told me you couldn't port a pay as you go phone, but I told them TING isn't pay as you go, then she told me, well it's a Sprint affiliate so not eligible. I then asked her if that's true then why won't Sprint give me a sim card for my phone? She had no answer.

Prob just need to get a different sim card
That may work, but she told me you have to be able to port a number

Was just looking and my Ting runs on T-Mobile, but I got an email the other day saying I can switch to the Sprint network on Ting and they'll give me $50.

Hmmmm, just do it online.  I was all the way to the checkout process (it's actually $20/month, not 15) before I checked my email to see what my last Ting bill was and saw the $50 offer.
