Say hello to the duds who are gonna whip your (1 Viewer)

comfortably numb

Footballguy
So you are sitting at 10-1, you are the highest scoring team in your league, getting ready for your BYE week.

Made all your trades, got your studs of Brady/ADP/Mccoy, Calvin, Graham etc...

Then you run into that playoff team that scraped in at 7-6, and somehow pulled off a 1st RD win....now here you come...

Say hello to the duds who will be beating people in the playoffs this year.

QB

Grossman

with games against NE/NYG/MIN should be painfull watching him haul in 335/3TDs 2INT in these losses

Matt Moore

with games against PHI/BUF/NE you will be begging for no moore!

RB

KSmith

MIN/OAK/SD

when Forte pulls a 6pt game and KSmith lights up Oak for 132 and 2 TD's you will be blaming Martz for not running more.

BTate

Tate plays CAR/IND week 15/16...you better hope you are the team with Foster...otherwise when Tate cleans up with 184/2TDs in the 2nd half you will be toast.

LRobinson

You are looking sexy with Fitzgerald, but when he faces CLE/CIN DB's and finishes with a 4/36 game and you see Laurent Robinson with 5/122 TD, you will be asking what week was this guy picked up off Waivers.

JAvant

You think you are solid with Maclin or Desean, then you realize Maclin is hurt and Desean is benched and Avant gets 4/99 2TD's for what you will now call the "nightmare team"

BHartline

He hasn't scored a TD since week 1....guess when he is waiting to score his 2nd...and 3rd???

Yep..against you when he plays BUF/NE 3/76 2 TD's

You have one of the many stud TE's in the league, that has been a good rock for you.

Well my friend, that is the week Gronkowski and Witten will pull in 4pts, while Todd Heap decides to let the world know he is still alive and tease everyone yet again after pulling in a 6 catch 86yd and TD game.

I will not bother with K/DEF, those crappy teams always seem to have great K/DEF so you will lose in that category anyway.

Feel free to add your duds turned studs...or who will win the "Drew Bennett/Billy Volek post mature ejaculation award"!!

Just wanted a placeholder for the shirt pointing.

Have I mentioned that I hate FF???

I like what you've done here, but Kevin Smith has the dreaded "high ankle sprain".
Yea right buddy, go get your shirt fitted...
(FFChamps) The sprained ankle that running back Kevin Smith suffered on Thanksgiving Day vs. Green Bay has been determined to be mild in nature.Analysis: So this is good news that Smith avoided the dreaded high-ankle type of sprain, and is believed to have a shot of returning for Week 13 at New Orleans.

Heh. Every time I see "high ankle sprain" or "HAS" I try to remind people that it needs the word "dreaded" in front of it. Thanks for the proper usage.Anyway, this has been the story of my FF life lately. The previous two years I've gone into the playoffs as the #1 seed, only to get knocked out in my first playoff matchup. I'm currently the #1 seed again this year. I expect to lose Week 15. Now, where did I put that damn shirt....

All the more reason to play in a total points league.

Your goal is to draft the team that scores the most points. The team that scores the most points takes the pot. Very simple and takes a lot of luck out of the equation.

Adds some luck too. Say Team A is relying on Rodgers, Welker and Calvin but messed up badly with the rest of his draft. Team B has a balanced team and is neck and neck in points. No superstar scorers but did a really good job putting up points at every spot. Now when 6 or 7 teams are out of the points race and not wasting their time grabbing free agents Team A can jump in and fill all those holes with all the waiver wire darlings. Team B has no holes to fill and is suddenly out of the running.Personally I like playoffs more because in a league with say 6 playoff slots you probably still have 8 teams in the running and fighting. Leagues aren't so fun when you only have 2 or 3 people who care this late in the year.

Laughing.....It's already started in some circles.

My CJ3K, Mathews, DMC, FJAX, Bowe, VJAX, Julio, Crab, Wallace, Vernon, Ben R team.....

got trounced by:

Stafford, Blount, BJGE, Little, Riley cooper, Baldwin, Santana, Marcedes......

Dynasty team above as well.

All you can do is laugh. And this :banned:

Agree with this. In my leagues we usually award a percentage of the pot to the regular season winner just to offset when there's a fluke/lower seeded SB championIn my experience it's not so much duds that go crazy with the scoring but that my studs that bring me there just take a huge dump on the first week of playoffs.

x2 runs otis out of town

I usually get trounced by Josh Brown and Rams DT combining for 50 points in week 15 even if they really DO have nothing else.

Not as fun - why not just hand the real NFL superbowl to the team with the most offensive points? Any Given Sunday Baby!!

Victor Cruz is a funny player - lots of flukes and seems to get lucky every week. The type of player to put up the numbers he did tonight while Megatron puts up 4/80 - LOL.

12 team league, everybody puts $100 into the pot$15 for the top scoring team each week, $240 total (teams on a bye or already knocked out of the playoffs still set their line-up and are eligible to win the weekly prize)$300 for regular season points champion$100 for regular season points runner-up$40 for regular season points third place$300 for playoffs winner$100 for playoff runner up$40 for winner of consolation playoffs (7th-12th regular season records)$80 for league fees etc. It's the set up my league uses and everyone likes it. Some years one team will clean up everything - points champ, playoff winner and win top weekly score seven or eight times and win $700. Other years you may get a bit of a fluky winner in the playoffs, but teams that did well still get rewarded. You can even get a team that doesn't do well in the first 10 weeks get hot down the stretch, win a couple of weekly prizes, win the toilet bowl and just about make their entry fee back. Either way it always keeps everybody interested and keeping a keen eye on the waiver wire right the way throughout the season.

You'd think that if somebody gets lucky EVERY WEEK, it should no longer be considered luck.
You'd think that but have you seen his big games? He's a solid WR2 - but it just makes me laugh when he bobbles a ball for an 80 yard score but can't catch a 7 yard slant.Classic guy who wins your fantasy superbowl for you.

I am niether the team with the killer record and all of the points nor the team loaded with sleepers that will blow up in playoffs. I could still limp into the playoffs with a win this week and Jupiter aligning with Mercury on the 7th day of the lunar month or something....and wwill still get beat by a team of people i avoided on draft day and waivers that I passed on.

Ever hear the expression. And that is why they play the game.

duds to studs:

CJ Spiller - Titans,Chargers, Dolphins, Broncos, Patriots. sans the Dolphins game, Spiller looks to be a stud in the making.you've got to love his 19 carries against NYJ on sunday...GOOD sign of things to come, they're running the offense thru him and will continue to force feed him the ball..

L Blount - Carolina, Jags, Dallas, Carolina..cant get any better than that!

Manningham - if/when he returns, he's a consistent 5-60 with a TD seemingly every week..Giants can't run they need to pass to win ball games..they play GB, Dallas, Washington, Jets - after seeing what Fitzpatrick did to the Jets defense, look for a lot of passing from Eli in this game..Dallas' secondary is a juicy matchup for Eli and Co., and they'll have to throw like mad to keep up with the Packers ( just like they did lst night v. Saints). if Maningham is going to return, the table is set for him to produce lofty numbers as a Flex or a decent WR2.

Ben Tate - easy schedule, best O-line in football..

Donald Brown - Colts are going to give this guy every chance to show what he's made of in the coming weeks..tough schedule, but faces a lousy Pats defense this week..

D. Williams/ J. Stewart - TB, Atlanta, Houston, TB - just like Blount , you won't find an easier schedule than this! TB is lousy against the run...Houston is tough, but Atl can be run on..

Santana Moss - Jets, NE, Giants, Minnesota - save for the Jets game, Moss will chew up each and every one of these defenses - he usually does well against NYG anyways.NE is a juicy matchup, and so is Minnesota..

Peyton Hillis - Balt., Pitt, Az, Balt...week 15 v. Az. is worth the price of admission..

Marion Barber - Chiefs, Broncos, Seahawks, Packers..backup QB means lots of running against subpar defenses like these..

Duds:

L. Fitzgerald - Dallas, SF, Cleveland, Cincy - aside from Dallas, these are some tough defenses.

Love the topic. Was coming here to suggest something similar. I'm on board with a lot of the picks here. With some of the injuries out there, I imagine there are also a lot of good teams from the regular season that are having to recover from the loss of guys like Fred Jackson.

I'm on board with a lot of the picks here. One thing I've been wondering about is a GB RB that could see a lot of 2nd half touches as they try to protect themselves from injuries and shorten games. Don't get me wrong I think that GB will play to go undefeated and could still be worried about homefield through week 16 depending on what happens with the 49ers, but that's not mutually exclusive from trying to develop a little more run game which would serve them well in January. Of course the other question is whether they would ever focus on a single RB with 4 RBs all seeing touches. I have to wonder if Saine couldn't be one of those late season out of nowhere guys. I'd only stash him on deep rosters because a lot of things have to break right. Pass catching ability & speed in that offense is intriguing.

Definitely agree here. On his one reception Thursday he seems to have some pretty good acceleration. Starks is banged up, not sure why they play him after week 14 or 15. In a couple highlights I saw this kid maul people in pass protection (given it was a small sample). This would be the biggest obstacle to him getting on the field, even if Rogers and the wideouts keep playin, as long as he is solid in pass protection, they shouldn't shy away. Also, I think Randall Cobb is someone to watch down the stretch as well. If they were to sit Jennings and Jordy, he could go nuts.

We have a team in our league that is 1 win away from completing the first ever perfect regular season in league history...guided by Aaron Rodgers, MJD, Murray and Graham. Every week he scores just enough to squeak by. I can't wait until the reality of playoffs hit and he goes from the penthouse to the outhouse. It is hard enough to catch all the breaks to go undefefeated in a fairly balanced league - but to then go undefeated in the playoffs defies the laws of probability. At least that is what I am telling myself to make it easier to sleep at night.

Not as fun - why not just hand the real NFL superbowl to the team with the most offensive points? Any Given Sunday Baby!!
Simple answer, because real NFL teams have defenses that also determine the outcomes of games. As a fantasy player, you cant control how many points your opponent puts up. How many times have you seen someone put up a ton of points during the season, but because he "allowed" a ton of points, his record stinks? A lot of times I'm sure.

I beg to differ...slightly. In my IDP league, we subtract Team A's defensive total from Team B's Total output (offense plus IDP total) and vice versa so that your defense can actually impact the game. We actually had a team in 2004 win the championship behind a powerful defense that took away between 60-70 pts a week from his opponents.

My round 1 opponent picked up off waivers in the last 2 weeks: (1) Orlowsky as his second QB and (2) Gerhart to replace his injured Peterson. I'm not expecting greatness from either this week, but ESPN is projecting both of them to pull down 15 points. I only have two starters projected to do so well (Ray Rice and Jimmy Graham).

I don't trust ESPN projections very much, but it would really suck to lose because 2 waiver pickups outscored guys I've been holding all year.

I don't know..... if you're opponent this week has Forte and you leave, say, Spiller out on the wire just for him to pick up and start against you well if Spiller has a good day you've added to his score against you in a way...

Agree with the already mentioned, Santana Moss.

Damian Williams vs the Saints seems likely.

Peterson realizes the Vikings are done and is a no surprise "late scratch", Toby Gerhart ruins someones day.

That really doesn't change anything. You're just double-counting your IDP scores. Right now your point totals look like: Team A's offense + Team A's defense - Team B's defense vs. Team B's offense + Team B's defense - Team A's defense

Just move the two minus signs over and you get Team A's O + Team A's D + Team A's D vs. Team B's O + Team B's D + Team B's D.

This is not like a real NFL defense, where there's actual control over the opposing team's offensive output.

maybe I misread his post, but I think he is saying Team A offense - Team B Defense vs Team B offense - Team A defense. So no double counting of IDP, and while you aren't controlling an opposing teams offensive output directly, if the IDP scoring is robust enough, building a strong set of IDPs could reduce the offensive scoring quite a bit. I've never seen this scoring, but I am intrigued.
