Schaub Minus AJ (1 Viewer)

Schaub has been on a roll lately and has a tasty matchup @ Denver. Reports are now calling AJohnson a GTD. The Houston Chronicle indicates that there is a "good chance" that AJ misses the game.

Minus AJ, Schaub obviously takes a hit. The question is, how much?

In my scoring system, Schaub is rated by Dodds and Bloom as the #6 and #7 QB this week respectively. I'd think that Schaub drops a few slots at minimum for the following reasons:

1. Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones just don't inspire confidence. O. Daniels is coming on but I wouldn't expect this group as a whole to pick up AJ's slack.

2. If given the chance, Kubiak will run, run, run. The only reason Schaub has been on a tear lately is because Houston is constantly playing from behind. Understanding Denver's horrible run D, I'd expect Foster to touch the ball 35 times Sunday.

Dodds and Bloom have yet to update their rankings and their rankings may never reflect AJ's absence since it could be a GTD.

Where does he drop minus AJ? Out of the top 10? Top 12?

Down enough to consider alternatives? Looking at waiver options I see...gulp...Rex Grossman...Shaun Hill...and god forbid...Tim Tebow.

Thoughts?

AJ has been on the receiving end of 32% of Shaub's yards for the year, so I think it would definitely have to drop his ranking. But he's still a GTD, which doesn't necessarily mean out yet. That said, I'm expecting to see the Texans run the ball all day long against the 30th ranked run defense (probably trying to also get a rushing title for A. Foster).

The problem for you is that the alternatives you listed, with the exception of....gulp....Tebow, are all early games. You may have to make a call before knowing Johnson's final status.

It would not be surprising to find a lot of Schaub owners made the championship game because he was playing from behind the last two weeks. It would also not be surprising to find a lot of them debating Schaub vs. Tebow vs. Grossman for this week. I know that is what I'm doing.

I actually have a slight lean to Tebow right now. Houston's poor-tackling secondary will have a hard time dragging him down if he can break through the pass rush somewhat regularly.

I'd be interested to hear from Texan homers who have watched that D a lot about how well they think the Texans will do in handling Tebow.

Lame. This isn't start vs. sit. This is acknowledging that AJ's absence could impact many players in a game that will impact many fantasy championship outcomes. Schaub, Foster, AJ, Walter, J. Jones, Tebow all in the mix here. And a "Shark" move could be to a) do nothing, or b) act accordingly......especially considering that all the "experts" out there universally still have Schaub ranked top 7.This isn't disimilar to the multitude of threads centered on R. Jennings. MJD hasn't been ruled out yet, Jennings just leap frogged many RBs into #1 RB status. Now, the opposite could be taking place with Schaub...he could be moving down. This is the last week for many here. What would you rather talk about...Brady vs. Manning?KY

I guess I'm fortunate that I've already ruled out Cutler in my mind because of his matchup, which leaves me debating between Schaub (4:05 EST) and Freeman (4:15 EST). Schaub with AJ would be a no-brainer over Freeman due to upside only. However, Schuab without AJ against and Denver's weak rush defense could level playing field quite a bit.

Tebow...gulp...is right.I think Schaub playing at 4 is actually to my advantage. My opponent is playing Brady @Buffalo at 1. Depending on how Brady's day is going may dictate what I do at the QB position. Going to be iffy weather up there and there's always the possibility that Brady has a sub-par game. If that's the case, I could play it conservative and stick with Schaub in the hopes I can at least stay even. If Brady lights it up, I could go for more upside with the likes of Tebow who plays at 4pm.Tebow...jeesh...projections are all over the map for him. He certainly has the best possible matchup. He's at home. He could also vulture one of not two rushing TDs. Serious roll of the dice though. This could define "getting cute."I'm wondering if a Tebow or Grossman move is more like plugging in Jerome Harrison last year? Or is it more like plugging in A. Foster last year when he fumbled and was yanked?KY

How about all the Schaub owners huddle up and help each other with our options should AJ not play. I have Kitna tonight and am leaning towards starting him if AJ isn't on the plane headed to Denver today. As for your situation, I'd much rather roll with Schaub over Freeman-I can see TB running the ball a lot tomorrow limiting Freeman's opportunities. Yes, Denver's D isn't very good, but with Foster banged up and Schaub throwing the ball pretty well, I'd roll with him.

AJ is on the plane. That much we know. I might be tempted to play Kitna today regardless however. Arizona's defense is pretty bad across the board. I was considering Freeman due to the job Seattle did on Turner. I thought that might force the Bucs to throw more if the Seahawk's limited Blount. Of course, that was at home, and, as I understand it, Seattle's defense is pretty terrible on the road.I just can't shake the feeling that Kubiak is going to go back to his early season Texans offense (i.e. run, run, and run so more) when up against a team that can't defend the rush.

Two bungling teams playing for nothing but pride and in the case of Denver- showcasing Tebow. I think that you will see Schaub play well and he will move it around to Foster, Walters, Jacoby and the TEs. He will be in for a solid game. I just do not see the defensive units firing it up for this one- after all bot team defenses have been dreadful all year long.

:goodposting: Starting Kitna tonight over Schaub for me as well.

I might have to roll with Kitna over Shaub. Ugh...
Ditto.. I'm okay with this. I think they were roughly interchangeable before this but I have to go with what I see as less variance now. The Hou game could be the Foster show and I feel that's less likely with Dallas.

I have Schaub in both of my re-draft league finals opportunities. My opponent dropped Matt Ryan for Rashad Jennings (he has Vick) and I dropped Gates for Ryan. I'm very seriously considering Ryan (Falcons keeping pace with Saints offense) over Schaub. When the Texans play soft run defenses I've noticed that Schaub hasn't had the same kind of opportunities for huge games. I expect that to be the case this weekend.

It also has me tempted to start Rex Grossman (who I added today) over Schaub in another league where TDs are five points and interceptions are only -1. Jacksonville cannot defend the pass so if I start Grossman its because I believe Schaub will be limited to the 180-220 rage in yards and 1-2 TDs. I think Ryan has a 250, 2 TD baseline this week. As for Grossman, I'm thinking he can be in the 250-280, 2-3 TD range.

I'm just thinking about it

I originally had Kitna versus the Cardinals for both teams, too, but I think Dallas will run on Arizona well enough to put a cap on Kitna.

Good luck to the rest you thinking about Schaub.

This is my dilemma as well. I think I am rolling with Schaub over Freeman. I have Foster too and I still think they will both have big games. Heres to hoping for 1 or 2 Schaub to Foster TDs passes. Denver has to respect the run and I think there will be plenty of opportunities for Schaub.
