Scott Long
Height:6'2"
Weight:216 lbs.
Arm Length:31 1/4 in.
Hand Size:9 3/4 in.
College:Louisville
Conference:Big East
His Combine profile says the following:
Long is a good collegiate receiver who will struggle to make the transition to the next level of football due to his lack of speed, acceleration and quickness. He is a good route-runner and does a good job of reaching out to pluck the ball in his hands. He is a bit tight in the hips and struggles to sink his hips to get in and out of his breaks with a lot of quickness and burst. He does a good job of reading coverages and will settle into the soft spots in zone coverage to provide a good target but is not going to get upfield quickly after the catch and get a lot of yards once the ball is in his hands. He has a chance to compete for one of the final roster spots based on his receiving and route-running skills.
STRENGTHS
Long is a tall receiver with a thick muscular build. Heady player who runs precise routes and uses shoulder and head fakes to gain separation. Consistently finds holes in zone coverage to keep the chains moving. Has reliable hands and catches the ball away from his body.
WEAKNESSES
Does not have the top-end speed or explosiveness to separate in man coverage at the next level. A bit stiff in the hips and loses speed in-and-out of breaks. Lacks the athleticism to gain yards after the catch in open space. Despite his size, he does not high-point the ball well and is not a threat in the red zone.
****************************************************************
In 2008, he battled knee and foot injuries, but in 3 games had 11/201/2TD.
In 2009, he had 53/727/2TD. Doesn't seem great, but the Cardinals leading passer only had 1354 yards and 6 TDs, and as a team threw for 2507/9.

For those that put a huge stock in Combine numbers, he should be on your radar. He was in the top 5 in every drill but the 40, where he was 9th.
40 - 4.46 (9th)
Bench - 20 (T1st)
Vertical - 41.5" (1st)
Broad Jump - 10'3" (4th)
3-Cone - 6.45 (1st)
20 shuttle - 4.09 (2nd)
60 Shuttle - 11.06 (1st)
His knock prior to the combine was his "lack" of speed, acceleration, and quickness. His measurables at the combine would tend to disagree. I know you can't put 100% faith in the numbers.....but it's definitely something to discuss.
So, stick him firmly on your radar. Depending on where he's drafted, he could be a 3rd round gem. And, depending on the team that drafts him, I may look at him in the 2nd.
ETA: I tried to find some game clips of him online....but nothing very lengthy. I saw plenty of him here (I live in Cincy). I liked him in college and felt he got burned by a bad, bad team. He's a weight room guy and a very hard worker.....you can't discount that. Then you add in the combine numbers and I wonder why I don't hear anything about him.
