It's been a running debate among Charger fans. Most think Olivea stinks. Some think he'll eventually get a shot at playing G. Others think he'll get released at the end of the season for salary cap reasons. He's been listed as having back issues all the way back to mid September so it doesn't seem like he's been 100% this season. Clarey is thought by most to have more potential long-term upside but with SD preparing for the playoffs I'm not sure why they would continue to play the guy with long-term potential if Olivea ever gets over the back issues by the end of the season. I'm one of those that doesn't think Olivea was ever the big problem on OL this season. He's not great, but he's an average RT imo. He was never as good as McNeil was last year but it seems to me McNeil/Dielman and the rest of them have all regressed a whole lot more than Olivea has. There were a lot of people clapping when Olivea was benched but since he's been benched SD has given up 8 sacks the past two games. Keep in mind they have only given up 21 sacks for the season. So as a unit they were giving up a little over one sack a game before the benching and now they are giving up four per game... which isn't to say Olivea is great, it just underscores that Olivea may not have been the biggest problem on that OL in the first place.
