SEA @ GBP - Game Thread (1 Viewer)

For those following this random rolling thread, thought I should let you know that I plan on writing up a report of this game. Anyone got some specific input that they think is significant from this game?
Shick!, any idea what Clarence Farmer's status is on the team. I mean Shaun Alexander, Maurice Morris, Kerry Carter, and now Tellis Redmon all got carries tonight while no sign of Farmer? Has Farmer been practicing alright, at this rate will he even make the team?

Practicing? Yes. Was in all the RB drills I saw last week. My best guess is that he's just buried too deep in the depth chart. Best chance to make this team as a RB is practice squad IMO.

I'd take Guerrero over Kolber, apparently you didn't see her hawtness on Fox Sports. :D .....Anyways, more importantly, where was K-Rob? Did I just miss him and he didn't get any targets or was he sitting out? I was anticipating seeing him cuz I just drafted him in a dynasty league.

STARTING JOBS THAT ARE YET TO BE FULLY DETERMINED:

Seattle

TE Jerramy Stevens started ahead of Itula Mili

MLB Orlando Huff started ahead of Solomon Bates and Niko Koutouvides

SS Terreal Beirria started ahead of Michael Boulware

Green Bay

SS Marques Anderson started ahead of Mark Roman

(I’m not certain whether or not this starting job has been determined yet. I very well may be Anderson’s job to keep)

GAME NOTES:

The first quarter of this game didn’t have a “exhibition” feel to it. Both teams appeared to be a bit more serious (especially Seattle) than they normally would for a first preseason game. This is understandable given the way that the season ended last year in overtime at Lambeau field.

Both teams played their starting units throughout two full possessions for each team. This bled into the second quarter by a few minutes. Both teams brought various blitzes and very little appeared to be “vanilla” with regard to the defenses.

Seattle

QB Hasselbeck was as sharp as any Seattle homer could have hoped for with the exception of a fumbled handoff attempt on the Seahawk’s second play. Seneca Wallace took a giant step forward towards earning the third string job behind Trent Dilfer. Both Dilfer and Brock Huard were back in Seattle with back issues.

RB Shaun Alexander had 6 carries through the first two drives. Two of them went for 7 yards, but one was lost to a defensive off sides penalty that Seattle accepted. Maurice Morris saw the lion’s share of work through the second and third quarters. For those that watched the game they may have noticed that Morris had an early carry in the second Seattle drive. This is nothing new. Holmgren put Morris in the game early several times last season for one early carry before yielding to Alexander for the rest of the game. Also of note, Morris was returning punts as well and kickoffs. Mack Strong had one carry for a 3-yard TD to cap the second Seattle drive. This should be seen as an aberration, not a trend. Kerry Carter was the feature RB in the fourth quarter. He had some nice runs, but still looks uncomfortable coming out the backfield into the flat catching passes.

WR Jerheme Urban started in place of Koren Robinson. He has taken giant steps in passing Alex Bannister to win the #4 WR job. If Robinson or Jackson goes down with an injury, don’t be surprised if Urban leaps into the starting role while Engram remains in the slot as the 3rd down specialist where he excels. Urban dropped a Seneca Wallace pass in the second quarter, but rebounded with a TD catch later. It was nothing special. He was wide open and it was a gimme. There was nothing of consequence to report on Jackson besides two targets and two receptions. The second reception was a crossing pattern that the O-line did a particularly good job of picking up a blitz.

TE Jerramy Stevens caught both of his passes on Seattle’s scoring drive in the first quarter. Itula Mili saw the field a ton as well, but Stevens was definitely the “first team” TE. Seattle practiced a ton of 2 TE sets last week in practice, but I failed notice whether or not both were in the game on their first red zone possession. On their two later red zone possessions they remained in a pro-set offense.

Green Bay

QB Brett Favre hasn’t missed a beat since last season. He spread his 8 passing attempts (one drew a flag) around to 5 different receivers. His only 2 incompletions were on deep balls. One to TE Martin in the back of the endzone was broke up on a nice play by a CB Ken Lucas. The other was overthrown to a wide-open Donald Driver deep down the sideline. Favre gave way to Tim Couch in the early second quarter. Couch looked awful, but in his defense, Seattle kept in several members of their starting defense though the quarter. Career backup Doug Pederson looked much more composed and game ready than Couch finishing out the game.

RB Ahman Green looked like Ahman Green. Nothing other than what was expected, except that Green was not targeted with a pass. Najeh Davenport had one early carry in the first quarter, and then waited until Green was done getting his carries in. Dahrran Diedrick finished the game out. Tony Fishere had two early receptions during the first two Green Bay possessions, but no rushing attempts.

WR Driver and Walker were both targeted twice making one reception each. Driver was open deep down the sideline for what could have been a TD, but was overthrown. Walker drew a pass interference call on his other target. Robert Ferguson didn’t play due to a hyperextended muscle between his knee and hip.

TE Bubba Franks caught his only target for an 11-yard gain on Green Bay’s first possession. He also put a monster down block on DE Antonio Cochran that opened a hole for RB Ahman Green’s longest carry in the game. David Martin was targeted deep in the endzone on a long pass on Green Bay’s first possession. He was also targeted late in the second quarter and early third.

Gotta hand it to Packer fans..... first preseason game, the starters are already out, and Lambeau is damn near full. They are probably the best fans in the NFL.Then again, what is there to do in Green Bay besides eat cheese and go ice fishing?
