Sean Lee (1 Viewer)

i do not have any info to go on but, my gut tells me it's going to be carter that benefits from any absence by lee.

The Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys have decided ILB Sean Lee's sprained toe requires surgery, and that he is done for the season.

It's a back-breaking blow for the Cowboys' run defense, and more disappointing news for a player who was plagued by a wrist injury down the stretch of his breakout 2011 campaign. The Cowboys have a capable replacement in former Panther Dan Connor, but Lee was playing at an All-Pro level. It just got a whole lot easier to run on the Cowboys' 15th ranked run defense, which in turn will ratchet up the pressure on their No. 3 passing unit. Lee is due $575,000 in the final year of his rookie deal next season.

I think lee was really squeezing the lemon dry on production in that defense -- I'd be surprised if one guy will step up to that level as a replacement.

Carter names signal caller? What effect does this have?

(KFFL)Dallas Cowboys LB Bruce Carter will take over as the defensive signal caller with LB Sean Lee (toe) out for the rest of the season.

Addition to above....Would Spencer now be an even better add if pass pressure gets ramped up? I have a choice between the two in a bidding waiver system where no one should outbid me.

Going to be every down if so and with no Lee to beat him to tackles.

Haha. I added them both and will wait to see how this shakes out. Learned my lesson with McClain and Ellerbe. Pinche McClain.

I heard Dallas is bringing in Ernie Sims, not sure if he will be on ST, but he has played decent at times in the past.
Sims is a stop gap at best, likely just insurance...I learned my lesson with him after having him for all those Detroit years hoping he would figure it out.Im going all in on Carter and hopefully I can grab Spencer with the free for all.

Ok here is my idea on this. You never know who os going to be the man in the middle when a stud like lee or ray lewis go down. Carter i think we all believe with get the nod first, if he is unable to cover the pass then thats where ernie sims comes into play and possible connor. They might use a commitee to make sure they have the right guy. I believe if you are a lee owner sit tight and move up on the waiver order if you cant afford a chance on carter. And dont forget about thomas davis looks to be a great fill in with beeson on ir now.

Not sure if the situation is exactly clear at this point:

But Carter, a first-year starter, said that’s not the case. Asked if he is manning the same position he has been since the season began, Carter responded, “Yeah I’m there. All my stuff is the same.”
While Connor will fill Lee’s spot, Carter will take over Lee’s responsibility communicating the verbal and hand signals.

Carter expects Connor, who took over on the inside against the Panthers after Lee went out, to be the primary inside linebacker in the 3-4 base scheme, while Sims will rotate in on passing downs. Connor said his heart breaks for his good friend, Lee, but he has the utmost faith in Carter to handle the signals with Lee out.

Thomas Davis has always had a ton of talent and has always produced when he was healthy. Sims and Conner have nothing in common with Davis talent wise. Sims and Conner are average talents who will only benefit from opportunity if they get it. On Thomas Davis I think he'll need another injury to be playing full time. Carolina didn't want to play him much this year as he came back from injury. The main person who will benefit from Beason is Kuechly.

Anybody have any insight regarding Carter.

They guy has been an absolute beast the last 2 weeks Since Sean Lee got ir'd but haven't heard a peep on this board.

Is this guy going to pick up Lee production?

It seems that way. He has 19 solos in his past 2 games which seems to indicate he's definitely picking up the slack left by Lee's absence. And whomever plays Lee's spot on any given week, whether it be Connor,Sims, whoever will not pose much a threat in the way of poaching those tackles. He's a sideline to sideline player with a nose for the ball, so I expect the tackle numbers to remain legit(8-10 Solos + assists/game). I can't imagine he's even close to as good in coverage as Lee, but then Lee is perhaps the best cover LB in football, so that's no surprise. As for how good he is in coverage, I can't really say, other than he's no Lee. I would imagine he'll be good for a couple sacks, a couple FF+FR, and a few PD--should make him a high upside LB2 with potential to be a high end LB1 if he starts flashing some big play ability. Basically I see him as Lee minus the interceptions and with a few less PDs.

On a side note, it's such a bummer that Lee's season has been cut short due to injury, and seemingly fluky injuries at that, two years in a row now. Last season he was just coming into his own as a star in this league and this season he was picking up right where he left off. He was right on the verge of becoming a player known not only by us fantasy nerds but by the casual fans--in other words, he was on the brink of superstar-dom It's a shame because the guy is so fun to watch. Here's to hoping he comes back next season ready to play again and stays healthy for many years to come. Aside from Patrick Willis (and maybe Navorro Bowman--so unfair the Niners have them both, and crazy too that their defense, as good as it is, can support two LB1s for fantasy purposes), there isn't another ILB I'd rather have (real NFL, but not far off for fantasy purposes, too). Sorry for the hijack, but Sean Lee has become one of my favorite players and it just really sucks the luck he's had.

Back to Carter, the fact that he has drawn comparisons to Lee from the coaching staff bodes very well for him. Some Dallas coaches even feel that Carter has adapted to the NFL game quicker than Lee did and is further along than Lee was at this point in their respective careers. What i can say is, while I'm stoked to see Lee return next season, I think we'll see a bit of a down tick in his production due to Carter's emergence, similar to how Willis's production in SF took a slight hit when Bowman emerged last season. But for Cowboy fans that's a good thing. With Lee and Carter manning the ILB spots for years to come, and Ware on the outside, that D could become pretty special.

P.S. Sorry if I rambled, it's because I'm drunk.

P.P.S. Also I just realized I didn't really hijack since this thread is titled Sean Lee so talking about him and/or his replacements is okay. So ignore that apology. All I know is I really wish I had Carter on my team right now but I missed out on him in waivers when Lee got hurt. sucks.

Actually that is the type of input this board has been lacking for a while ... You should drink more often! Also saw this on Rotowire Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has been impressed with ILB Bruce Carter's ability to take over as the leader of the defense."This guy's become a hell of a football player right in front of our eyes this season. I wouldn't have predicted that. Absolutely not. But he is a tremendous football player. He’s playing as fast as his great athleticism allows him to play. He’s smart. He works hard... This kid has really become special," said Ryan. Once Sean Lee (toe) went on injured reserve after Week 7, Carter took over as the defensive signal caller and has amassed 24 tackles in the three games since.Source: Fort Worth Star-TelegraGlad I picked this guy up
