Wtf is this?

Just went to buy a pair of shoes on adidas website and saw this added at the very end. Not until after you enter cc info. Any other sites doing this?

I was going to jokingly say that they probably needed to buy warmer clothes but then I noticed that you are buying from a clothing manufacturer.

Did they explain it anywhere?  I thought they had to.

Also ...so they tagged it at the very end, but you still could have backed out of the transaction?

How much was it?  Could you tell if it was percentage-based?

It was 2 or 3 dollars. It was a final popup. So add to cart. Enter address. Get sales tax amount. Enter credit card. Click submit order. Then it pops up like as if it was some breaking news alert they just found out about. You had to hit accept.

At least with sales tax you know it is coming because it is always there. It just has a dash and a question mark to explain that they need your shipping address.

yeah, agreed - slimy ...doubtfully criminal ...but probably should be.

Did they have an asterisk or something to take you to some kind of explanation?

And this THE Adidas website or some affiliate?

sorry for all the questions ...this is disturbingly fascinating.

I'm still not surprised.

I ship industrial goods to many different places. For at least five or six years now UPS, has added a, "Residential Surcharge," to shipments that I would send family anywhere in the country or Hawaii (no family/friends in Alaska). This is through their WorldShip pc program. Haven't paid attention to FedEx because only one of our customers uses them for all ground shipments.

My speculation is that this is a, "Pass Along," charge. The only reason this would happen is because the carrier is charging the supplier for said extra service. Another reason could be if you choose not to use the companies preferred shipping choice and instead select a service you're more familiar with. I've done this. If any shipper beside FedEx is available to send stuff to my house, I use it. Don't care, FedEx sucks for home delivery around here.

Was watching CNBC on Monday and saw that UPS and Macy's had prioritization talks about package handling. Not to mention last week on the same channel I saw a UPS story about surcharges being added to bills for the holiday season. And......saw a blurb come across a ticker that runs on my work computer about New York City adding a $3 surcharge to any package delivered to a residence to cover MTA losses due to the pandemic.

I've worked in the surcharge world, it sucks.

TL/DR

Surcharges are coming back and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it  :2cents:
