Seattle at Carolina (1 Viewer)

Well, the good news is we won't see hide nor hair of ITS for another 6 - 8 months. So it's really a win-win for all of us.
:goodposting:

As least he has his DVOA championship to hang onto in the off season.

I will have to say that I hate the way the Panthers play with a big lead. Unfortunately, it has worked (GB, Indy, Giants and Seattle) this season, but we take Cam out of the game and it becomes a run out the clock mode. Awful to watch as a fan when you know they are letting the opponent get easy first downs underneath and we are neutering Cam. It worked, but it is painful.

I was at the game, through sheer good fortune.

Some observations on the Panthers:

Carolina has some great fans and great culture outside the stadium and in the stands (though I was in a box for much of the game).

Jonathan Stewart plays better against the Seahawks than any RB I've seen these last 4 years, and perhaps better than he plays against any other team.

To that end, Carolina's O-line played exceptional football. Kalil is a stud. Only saw a few obvious holds that were not called.

Cam Newton is a very good player, but he needs to get on top of his body language and control his emotions when the game gets close and the pressure ratchets up. I may be wrong, but it seemed like he was barking at the sideline in-game, and that's not kosher as the leader of the team. I didn't hear what he said (too loud, but was told he was hot), but he was showing the pouty face before and after the confrontation I mentioned. He needs to keep more positive.

On the Seahawks side:

Russell Wilson was very good, but I'd like to see more of a sense of urgency earlier in the game when there is so much ground to make up. Kid is super composed though.

Marshawn Lynch is done as a dominant runner. Next year should be Rawls and Co.

Kam Chancellor, I fear, may be done as a dominant force on D. He hasn't been a difference maker for most of the season, and he didn't factor into this game other than a nice batted pass. KJ Wright, OTOH, was everywhere and is ascendant.

For the second year in a row, the loss of Cliff Avril factors in to the Seahawks exit from the playoffs. They needed a stronger pass rush to force Cam's hand down the stretch. They came up short.

Stadium and surroundings:

Nice stadium overall, but that field was worse than Santa Clara (where I've been to see a game as well). The field was utter garbage, looking like a municipal golf course from before kickoff, and it's fortunate there wasn't more injuries sustained.

Carolina BBQ is damn nice.

Carolina has this, but hate the way they've fallen apart in the second half this season. Don't think their luck will hold up against the Pats if they meet in the SB.
Pats play all game throwing the ball like they're down big. That might be so good for Carolina.
Good posting jhib
I agree. I'd rather see our offense in rhythm all game. So painful to watch when they go in conservative mode. They haven't lost yet because of it, but you can 100% tell they are taking their foot off the pedal. Look at that one 3rd and 7 with 4 or so minutes left up 10. Run Tolbert? They didn't even try to get the first down. It was clearly keep the clock running and punt.

That said, it's been a phenomenal season regardless and I think the championship and (:knockonwood:) the Super Bowl will be great games. Great to beat Seattle since they've had our number before this year.

Glad to hear, seems you had a good time overall. I love it here.

That said, the field is tough now and that isn't normal. We have had so much rain this Fall and through the Winter. We had an all day rain a couple days ago and the ground is so saturated that every time it rains now, there are huge puddles on the side of the roads regardless of how much it rains. It has been abnormally wet all Fall and Winter.

Ought to be a way to give FP to those players who recover onside kicks for the receiving team. Easily as big a contribution to team success as a tackle or a 10 yard rush...
...or offensive linemen that throw a pancake block to allow a running back to score untouched....or punters that pin the opponent within the five.
Agree. Already have punters scoring in my primary league. Would love to add OL but there's a shortage of standard/official stats to base scoring rules on. Should be done though!

One last set of notes:

1. Why does Seattle act like douches sometimes? Cam just had to snap the ball 3 times and the clock runs out even with Seattle's one time out. Most teams don't try and injure players or start fights, but Seattle was trying to wedge 4 guys at the center and had guys jumping over the pile onto Panther o-lineman. The only bad thing that can happen is one of our OL getting hurt, just a ######## move. Hate it when teams do that when you know the game is over.

2. Thanks Chicago for trading us Greg Olsen. It worked out for the Bears as well since they got Brandon Marshall. I guess only the Dolphins screwed that one up.

It looked to me like on his first kneel down Seattle wasn't rushing hard, but Cam didn't take an immediate knee. Did they do what you are talking about on the first one or just on the ones after that? If the latter, I would argue Cam brought it on by trying to run more time off the clock before taking a knee, which was totally unnecessary anyway.

Greg Olsen is no good. He's worthless.

I could swear they did it on all of them. I actually thought he did the long kneel down on the second one and that was when there was a lot more pushing and shoving. There was no reason for Cam to back up and kneel the first time, but I thought that was due to the flying bodies on 1st down. There were only 3 and I think the wedge up the middle was on 3rd down, but the game was over then. I could be wrong, but pretty sure the jumping over was on the 1st down and 2nd down. Either way, game was over and there was no reason to be jumping over piles and even going down low. Worst case scenario is an OL injury for the team moving on. Reminded me of Schiano, who got a lot of crap for doing that in Tampa and he was a complete ahole.

That's how I saw it, too. If Cam is gonna hesitate taking the knee, it is fair game to go leaping over the line to try and make a play.

Well stated.

Wilson was worth every penny
To whom? Pick 6 put the team in this position in the first place.
The vaunted Seahawks defense gave up 24 points in the first half. That was a bigger problem than the pick 6.
Being down 14 points inside of 4 minutes is a pretty big deal.
Yes, and Wilson's bad play was a big part of it, but no worse than the elite Seahawks rush defense letting Carolina go 75 yards on its first 4 rushing plays to go up 7-0.
