Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was because the whistle had blown. All I know is Baldwin was still fighting...as a defender you have to put him on the ground. What a bull#### way to lose a game.
That penalty had nothing to do with the loss.
Well, that's not entirely accurate. It did have something to do with the loss. There were about a dozen things that could have prevented that from even being pertinent, but yes, that bull**** penalty did directly contribute to the loss. As did the bull**** penalty for running parallel to the sideline on the kick return in OT which effectively moved Seattle from their own 5 to their own 30.
But it never should have come to that. Kubiak, as always, took his foot off the gas. We punted 6 of our last 8 possessions. I've never seen a coach go so prematurely conservative. Maybe Marty? I dunno. Either way, Kubiak is to blame here. And Schaub shares some of that blame. Homeboy never throws past the sticks on third down. That in and of itself is sad, but if you are going to be a p**** then you should not get intercepted. That's why you throw it short - to be safe. Inexcusable all the way around.
One contributing factor that had nothing to do with BS penalties or QB/coach shortcomings was the loss of Cushing in the second half. That had a huge impact on things.
All in all, I wish we'd never extended Schaub and tried to trade for Rivers. I know how impossible that is in reality, but Andre Johnson would finally put up that 15 TD season we all know he's capable of instead of constantly waiting for Schaub's weak arm throws to get to him so he's got to fight off a tackle just to get some YAC. If AJ ever had a QB who could lead him, people would talk about him like they talk about Calvin.
