Sell HIGH on Westbrook. Now. (1 Viewer)

You can probably get any player out there right now short of LT for westbrook.

Do it and don't look back. We all know his history and if you hold onto him too long you will get burned.

Remember, it wasn't even a given that he was going to play week 3.

Remember a cardinal rule of FFL - do not get too attached to any player on your team. Yes, he's carried you so far but sell now as high as you can...

You might want to wait until after this week if that's your approach. He absolutely owns the Packers. His value should be even higher on Tuesday morning than it is now.

Sell high? I never even thought of that. Brilliant!

I bet no one remembers his injury history and I should have no problems getting Larry or Rudi Johnson.

Thanks.

What about Portis? People seem confident in his health. I am still concerned.

You probably won't get LT, LJ, Rudi or Portis. Even considering his injury risk, there's nobody else that far enough ahead of Westbrook to make a trade worthwhile. Can't see the point of trading for a Ronnie, Sjax or McGahee and sit there watching Westbrook roll these guys every week waiting for an injury.

That's all you're getting? I'm getting Reggie Wayne from the LJ owner also. You've been taken son.

Absolutely concur.

He's brittle, and he's getting all his hype off two games versus the Niners and Texans; hardly the NFL's finest.

He'll still be a valuable guy to have (and I have him and am happy so far); but it won't last.

don't forget his 120 yards and TD against the Giants

I respectfully disagree with your assesment. He was Questionable week 2 and he came out and and played well. He was Questionable week 3 and had a monster game. There is no doubt that they are handling him with kid gloves, but it is not because of a pulled hammy or some other injury that hampers his ability to play. It is due to swelling in the knee that needs to be controled before game time. If the swelling is brought down and he is in the lineup he is MONEY.This is going to give us Westbrook owners ulcers all season, but so far it has been worth it.

And I don't know if there is one cardinal rule in FF, but if there were I would put "Always start your studs" above the one you mentioned, along with "Kickers, draft them early and often."

OK, that was a joke, but Westbrook is the #1 RB in my league right now (and we aren't even PPR). How do you trade up from that?

The problem is that everyone in my league believes Westbrook is an injury concern. Maybe they are right, but I am certianly not going to trade him for and equal injury concern (Portis) or guys on bad teams (Brown, SJax, McGahee).

If no one is going to give me what I consider to be good value for him (Peyton Manning, LT, LJ, Rudi, maybe a top WR) I'm holding on until the wheels fall off.

On a ppg basis Westbrook will finish as a top 5 RB this season. Write that in stone.

When I drafted Westbrook I knew the injury concern was there, so I made sure I drafted good backups. I have Taylor and Tatum Bell. Some still think of Taylor as an injury concern, I do not but that is an issue for another thread. My point is, if you drafted Westbrook, and you were thinking, you got at least one good solid backup. Injuries happen and for the most part can't be predicted. Prepare for them and ride your studs for as long as you can. And thus far, Westbrook is a stud.

Is this your idea of trying to get Westbrook in your league???Of course you don't have Westbrook or your post would of been written different. :lmao:Your post stated (Yes he carried you so far) should of been carried us ..if you had him!

i do not understand these sell high thread :loco: . I have Westbrook in 1 league and would only trade him for LT. I drafted him 12th :pickle:

In a 2 PPR league, I'm waiting until after he plays the Pack, then I'm working a deal for LT. The LT owner is 0-3, soon to be 0-4, and is very desperate. I'll throw in a garbage WR for good measure.

Agreed. Not too many people will be paying top dollar for a guy that is known to be nursing a swollen knee after every game. You need to hold on Westy IMO. Hope the production continues and the knee holds up.

FWIW, Westy seems to be over his most recent "injury" and will probably practice this week. Not saying he's still not an injury concern but he could be over his knee swelling.

What about Tiki? Would you rather have Westbrook or Tiki at this point?
In the long run, I'd take Tiki. He's much less of an injury risk.
I worry about Tiki this year. He's had a lot of touches the last two seasons, is 31 years old and is not the biggest dude around. Plus he's not finding the end-zone and gets no goal-line carries. I think I'd go with Westbrook, moreso if you have a capable backup if he does get hurt.

Someone explain to me why you would EVER "sell" your best player? Unless you get like four or five studs in exchange or something.

No ulcers here. If he has to sit, I'll toss in another back.

Crap, did they just change his schedule to play the Ravens every week?Honestly though, Westbrook has a pretty tough schedule from the point on (according to Clayton's SOS), although he's not a conventional RB.

I'm going to offer up Westbrook for Larry Johnson. I'll report back

Sell High ?

For what ?? What would you trade Westbrook for at this point ? Point is he is a hot player among alot of not so hot players.

Westbrook for LJ ?? Not me, no O line, No QB and a bad coach IMO

Westbrook for Tiki ?? Sorry I have watched all 3 games of the Giants, I will pass

because "3 weeks does not a season make"... as Yoda sayswhere was Bwest down the stretch last year when owners needed him most? The guy just can't be relied on to stay healthy.... period

Ever hear of LaDainian Tomlinson ? Guess how many TDs he had in the last 5 games of the 05 season ? Then Guess how many 100 yard games

Westbrook's SOS looks pretty solid to me. He plays a few tough teams including Jax, but he also gets sissies like the Titans, Colts, NO and GB.

Then he has a bunch of average matchups. Pretty good SOS, IMO.

yea... had him on my roster last seaon... lost in the 1st rnd of the playoffs because of his woes. He was playing w/ cracked ribs he sustained in a scrum against Oakland... if he had cracked ribs every year (like Westy has foot/knee/leg injuries)... i'd be trying to sell him high tooLMAO... i can't believe i even bothered to reply to you... you just compared Brian Westbrook to Ladanian Tomlinsonwhoooolenubbalevvoool

The beauty of Westbrook is the usual RB value red flags don't apply to him... # of touches, goaline vulture, schedule, none of it really matters. When he is on the field he is a top 3 playmaker (especially in this offense), and one of the most underappreciated talents in the league. His fate in the fantasy realm of things is basically decided upon what his owner is scared of more, trading or holding on to him... and I'm not sure there is a right or wrong answer.Make me a list of players you would trade him for. I bet half of them, even on the short list (of 4 or 5 players), you wouldn't feel that great about or convinced that you made the right move shortly after.

DEJA VU!

If you would of come onto this board exactly one year ago from today, you would of likely seen an absolutely identical discussion.

Westbrook 2005 (standard scoring):

Week 1: 17 points

Week 2: 18 points

Week 3: 32 points

Week 4: 4 points

Week 5: 3 points

Westbrook 2006:

Week 1: 19

Week 2: 16

Week 3: 34

Week 4: ?

Week 5: ?

Westbrook has been really solid so far, against the power house Texans, 49ers and a Giants team team that hasnt stopped anyone on defense.

The beauty is, he doesnt play a decent defense for a while. The hapless Packers this week. The Cowboys the next week, who have been decent, but not nearly as good against the run as was expected and then the Saints and Bucs who he will run all over.

A tough game against the jags, and then a bye to get healthy, then he has the Redskins, Titans and Colts. None of which stop the run worth a crap. Then the Panthers, and a tour of the NFC East again.

If Westy stays healthy, there is a good chance that with this schedule, he will be the #1 fantasy back in the league. No way I would trade this guy if i owned him, I would probably give up any one in the league except LT for him.

I am thinking 1200 yards rushing, 70 receptions, 800 yards receiving and 12-15 combined TD.

I have Tiki and Westy on the same team. I also have C-Buck and Jacobs. I'm comfortable with that, and so I think I'll stand pat, thanks.

Same boat with Westy in two leagues. I have C-Buck to back him up in both and more than able current RB1s to fall back on if needed (Gore / T Bell).

I just asked if you knew about a back who didnt come up big at the end of a season when owners needed him most. (I read that somewhere) Oh yeah, Tomlinson in his last three games of '04 - 2 TDs & 0 100 Yard Games. Should we sell high on Tomlinson ?

Greeeeeat, the LT is god complex is back.

Yeah, I remembered when I sold (high) C-Mart for Deuce 2 years ago. That trade kept me out of the playoffs.

As long as Andy keeps him fresh during then week - which it seems like he is doing - I would rather hold on to Westbrook and then ride Buckhalter (who has looked pretty darn good in limited action) or someone like Tatum Bell.

All I know is that I would be super-stressed if I had Westbrook and no Buckhalter.

I agree with the other postings that state "who the heck are you going to get for him?"

I believe the "Buy Low" strategy makes more sense at this point in the season.

Here's a thought - have a decent backup to plug in on the weeks where he's down and ride him until then. There are no guarantees that the guy you're going to get in return isn't going to throw a hoof the following week.
